i'm probably the wrong person to ask. I hate ear defenders and I hate visors. I always buy the lightest helmet I can get away with and just use ear plugs and glasses

Have you tried the Perspex visor steve instead of the mesh, if so what do you think? I hate the mesh but just seem to put up with it!

... I would probably just buy a petzl to be honest and use it on the ground.

Hmmm, climbing helmets and grounds helmets are tested to 2 different standards. Hence your approach. were your primary activity is climbing, and where when you're on the ground the likelihood of anything falling from above is low, perhaps a dislodged / hung-up branch, is pragmatic and satisfactory.

However if your primary role is grounding then a ground helmet it should be, and change to climbing helmet when climbing...of course :001_huh:

Cheers Matt, n hope you're well,

Paul

I've had most hats apart from the Protos.

Petzl vertex vent = very good, comfortable and reliable. 7/10

Kask = nice looking hat and comfy but it falls apart very easily. Even if you glue the ear defenders on they end up snapping. Also it stinks after just a few outings.

5/10

CT climbing helmet. = A really excellent hat. Good adjustment, very comfortable, doesn't smell even after 6 months regular use. Solid fixtures and looks great as well. 9/10

Hope this is helpful.

I've tried Kask - stinks to high heaven no matter how much you wash it (plus I use a sweathawg), Protos - comfy helmet and great in trees but not enough ear protection for my liking, and the vertex vent which I find the best of the lot so far (for the money) and you can pick which ear defenders. I also use Bolle safety glasses along with the visor.

How quickly do people find the perspex glasses\goggles gey trashed when climbing? Never tried it but always get **** in my eye. When carving I use goggles both perspex and mesh kind but mesh is irritations nd perspex always steams up\scratches.

Any magic solutions?
