I have Gransfors, Wetterlings, Oregon (wooden shaft) and Fiskars maul :blushing:

At < £50 the Fiskars is definitely best value for money and splits as well as any :thumbup1: The Oregon is a fine maul too. Long handle and well balanced.

I use an X27, and it's a nice axe. However, it was £50 odd when I bought it, and I'm not convinced it's 5x better than my old £10 toolstation maul which used weight rather than my force behind the axe to do the splitting.

Having said that, I don't tend to split huge amounts of wood in a single session - the X27 is lighter so maybe better for larger volumes.

I always split with 2 axes at arms reach. Fiskar is the go to axe for me but always keep my heavy man sized axed (don't know the brand) for the odd log that requires a bit of weight persuasion

would like to see a video of that!

X27 here too as i find the heavier stuff does my back in

looking at a shorter fiskar for the small stuff that just needs spliting once

I can recommend the X17

Big enough for two hands when needed and light enough to use single handed as a large hatchet. Just as efficient at the X27 just lighter/smaller.
