I slipped and cut my hand doing that at work one day. Had to run home for a Hello Kitty plaster. 
 

Or was it a Lightning McQueen one, can't remember.

Yes more so if you are cutting wet or green wood or staining wood like oak, but less so with dry seasoned wood.  
 

Also I sometimes sharpen and then go back with a critical eye and adjust.

The chain goes 3 times backwards in a sharpen , doesn't make a lot of sense to worry about the oil pump to me as the chain will have done 3 spins forward in half a second running.

I pull it back when sharpening too, think I started doing it because it makes sure teeth don't catch on stuff on the bench or vice under the bar, and now habit.

I do the same only pull it forward into a comfy position . It doesn't matter a fcuk .
