I sit on the saw power unit with my left foot against the left side of the bar and a log or my tool box (something heavy) against the tip of the right. Seems to work for me.

Can't do it on my lap because I can't cross my legs (not to flexible anymore).

I kneel next to the saw and just put either the scabbard or anything else suitable and handy under the bar tip and push it down. Always turn the saw instead of moving myself out of habit though for some reason.

 

Find what works for you and master that method, everyone will do it slightly different.
