I sit on the saw power unit with my left foot against the left side of the bar and a log or my tool box (something heavy) against the tip of the right. Seems to work for me.

Can't do it on my lap because I can't cross my legs (not to flexible anymore).

Sit on top of the power unit so its between your thighs, lean over the guide bar and sharpen away.

Those log vices are overated..

Yep never sharpen with a vice and use this method , fast n easy.

I kneel next to the saw and just put either the scabbard or anything else suitable and handy under the bar tip and push it down. Always turn the saw instead of moving myself out of habit though for some reason.

Find what works for you and master that method, everyone will do it slightly different.

If you have a pickup use the tailgate and put nose in the corner. Maybe keep a bit of mat or old glove to protect the paintwork if it means anything to you.

Make up 2 little wooden wedges to jam the bar in the tail gate door on my old defender and away I go. Like a few others I'm too old and stiff to sit on the deck and the floor of a defender is the perfect work height for me. I'm a short arise !!

Don't bother, just stick a fresh chain on and keep cutting. Sharpen your chains back in the workshop where it's warm, dry and well lit plus you'll have a proper workbench with a vice and compressed air.
