Not surprised. Driving into town the other day on a still cold morning you could see thick smoke hanging in the air. From the looks of it all coming from a couple of chimneys. Still lots of folk burning crappy wet logs on open fires. Put dry logs on a modern stove and from outside you would not a stove was even running.

There's also lots of people running non-smokeless stoves in smoke controlled areas. Installed legally to burn smokeless fuel and people then burn any old coal and wood.

Plenty of scope to crack down on the worst polluters whilst keeping firewood as an option.

Dry wood on the correct stove is smokeless.

Agreed but not without pollution. Not much of an issue out in the sparsely populated country but in towns? I posted up a stove on another thread and joked how you could use you phone to adjust it but was looking into the US stoves where they have tight regulations on emissions.

Look how clean that stove claims to be Catalyst Smart, Ultra-clean Wood Stove - MF Fire

"During third-party laboratory testing, the Catalyst achieved 0.2 grams per hour of particulate emissions. This is more than 20 times lower than new, more stringent, EPA emissions regulations and less than half the smoke produced by a single cigarette"
