Thanks to Brexit :)

I'd dare bet Vesp isn't from Stoke. My money would say he's further North-west.

It's a tough one to call. Stoke is Labour through and through, even though the people know that the Labour Party have done a terrible job in the city over the years!

The Scouser thing is another tough call, we don't, and never have liked each other.

Yes I am a bit further North West, Bolton... Not that people round these parts have some loathing hatred of the Scousers, like Manc's seem to do..

But the accent grates none the less....

I expect most pro remain supporters might well sit it out given the choices they find themselves with....

I suspect a low turnout with labour just dragging themselves over the line by a couple of hundred votes....

Though to be honest I haven't really investigated these seats, events being up in the air, with the government bending to every rebellion I'm not sure people know which direction to vote to either support Brexit or Defeat it at present...

We have to wait for Theresa May to invoke article 50 for the proverbial to really hit the fan...

I'm a bit further north and the feeling here is somewhat different ! I feel both Brexit and Trump highlight how racist and selfish people actually are. We invented the jumbo jet to make the world a smaller place yet we are now building walls.

The EU has done fantastic things for the UK and brought much needed cash into many deprived areas where U.K. Industry no longer exists. Brexit was sold as a lie and will not improve quality of life for the vast amount of people in the U.K. Those who stand to profit are the elites!

Whilst the EU has brought in constraints I believe the benefits to being part of that union outweigh those of just being in the United Kingdom.

I have always considered myself to be Scottish and European and do hope we get the opportunity to remain in the EU with our without Westminster.

I'll get my coat now!

WHAT....knight farage.??

And i thought we were just starting to get along!

:001_tt2:

Like or loathe him, it cannot be denied that, through long term personal commitment and dedication to the cause of exiting the EU, despite institutional derision and excommunication from main stream politics, in the face of ridicule and the seemingly impossible challenge of achieving that aim, he has remained true to his cause. He has influenced and re-shaped not only the UK political landscape, but also that of the entire continent of Europe AND is continuing with outreach and shaping US politics.

Lest we forget, without UKIP (AKA Nigel Farage) there would have been no EU referendum, David Cameron would still be PM and JC would not be the leader of the Labour Party.

So, in comparison to someone that has bought their knighthood through political donations, like or loathe him, he is without question, better placed than any other political character of modern times, to warrant recognition through the Honours and Awards system....... In my humble opinion!

Theres more chance of hell freezing over than Nigel Farage getting a knighthood...

He stood and threatened seats held by Tory politicians, his Party now threatens Labour seats...

80% of MP's are remain supporters, I'd suggest the republic of Congo has more chance of winning three world cups on the bonce before he gets a knighthood.....

Our problem is we are inherently racist, how many of us socialise with Eastern Europeans out of choice? Again this is a simplistic way of looking at a multi faceted problem but it is a point.

I don't believe Britain is any more racist than any other country, not for a second. The difference is we live in a country where political correctness has gone mad, to have national pride is to be a racist! I've worked with Polish squads, Hungarian squads, Latvian squads, and hand on heart they are more racist than us, maybe not intentionally, but just the general ethos of those nations. But we in Britain are made to feel that no matter how liberal we are, we need to be more liberal, no matter how considerate of other religions, cultures we are, we need to be more considerate, we're always being pushed to be a better society and because so much time is spent dwelling on and trying to improve our flaws, they become magnified until we're left feeling like we're the scum of Europe, when in reality we are possible the most considerate, generous, welcoming people in Europe.

I was trying to highlight the complexity of the issues and you are of course right in many respects, although we are not the only country - Germany, France, Spain, Italy and even Greece are having an equally if not a greater influx of non nationals than we are.

It's the attitude of well ship em off to there and help their bloody economy which is such a simplistic way of looking at it.

There are a lot of racist Eastern Europeans I don't have the time of day for, yet so far in my experiences equal to some of us natives. Plenty of them are a waste of space spongers on our economic and benefit system, same again for British nationals (although you could argue it's their right).

I say ship em all off and keep only those no matter the ethnic origin off to well I dunno Australia?

It's also telling that this thread quickly turned to immigration but I do agree screw political correctness, if you don't like it say it, but remember there is positives to the movement of people!

no worries Marc, other countries do have their own problems with foreign nationals, but how they handle that is their problem, we have our own. Unfortunately shipping anyone off isn't going to work, where do we ship them to. My argument is to introduce measures whereby only those who can contribute to the British economy should be allowed in, this would also mean a shortfall in people to do the low level jobs which should be forced onto the home grown layabouts. If they want a better life then get off their lazy arses and do something about it. The key problem in Britain which ties into the EU is this humanitarian notion that everyone deserves an equal life, no they don't, not if they aren't prepared to get up at 6am and go do a days work like the tax payers!
