Despite the appalling inefficiencies and incompetent staff across all professions within the NHS and at all levels PLUS the useless drunken twazzocks in any Accident & Emergency room, our local hospital, despite a generally poor reputation(and deservedly) has an outstandingly well run x-ray/ultrasound department, the wife and myself have had 4 xray/scans recently, in each case we were in seen and back out, all before the actual appointment time.

I take it this is simply and purely because of whoever is in charge of this department being a good leader and setting an example.

Altnagelvin on the other hand despite its better reputation, has appalling "no show" for booked appointment statistics, due to the local demographic.

And after reading some of the statistics for monies paid out to those on benefits, i.e. per head or per household, surely ALL should pay the SAME for access to ALL services, and if necessery adjust the payments (upwards) to give every (sensible sized) family a living wage, and cut out ALL the freebies.

i.e. In NI when those in employment, or not in receipt of benefits paid for their prescriptions, paid-for scripts were only 10% of the total.

90% being free.

That is mad & unsustainable.

Just been out for a drink with a doctor friend of mine.

Lincoln county hospital has dropped all consultants hours saying they can only work 42 hours a week.

So clinical consultations have had to be cancelled to keep in line with the hours.

Now waiting times have done the obvious and gone up..... so now they are putting these same consultants on Saturday clinics at £180 per hour as overtime!

Free prescriptions are utter madness,

They are nothing to do with health, just a vote winner at the ballot box.

And an encouragement to run to your GP or A+E. anyone who goes to their gp for paracetamol as a repeat prescription should be ashamed of themselves!

Go to Tesco's and buy it for 20p

Oh!

I forgot, multimillion £ "state of the art" operating theaters should be staffed 24/7, to get the value out of a VERY expensive fixed asset.

Ditto consultants should work evenings, nights and weekends, on rolling shifts.

He who pays the Piper should call the tune.

And time-served Ex Services Paramedics specially for the Friday & Saturday night crowd, looking for a fight.

All sounds good, but where are the staff coming from?

I had my op Saturday morning, five nurses and one surgeon to cut and stitch one person, that's without the staff on reception or in the recovery area.

It's not quite as simple as it seem IMO.

I think agency staff is one of the biggest rackets:thumbdown:

The NHS should surly run their own agency, but then all the MPs and their cronies who make a packet out of the existing agency would loose out and we can't have that now can we:sneaky2:
