Pleased you had good care eggs.

It should be something to be proud of but frankly it is shambles at times. My mrs is a nurse and had various family members in and out of hospital lately. It's good if you have something clear cut but when it comes to more complicated diagnoses there is no continuity, notes are lost and endless repetition of tests. No specialist at the weekend so if you don't get discharged by Friday you will probably have to stay in all weekend until they are back on duty. Beds cost a fortune per night and there are loads of people wanting to go home who cant until all the paperwork is done. There will never be enough money for it to do everything perfectly but it does seem management is appalling. Still glad we got it though :thumbup1:

That rings true for me as well!

My wife has suffered from face pain for years. Felt like toothache but after X-rays cat scans etc no joy.

Finally found out it's trimenial neuralgia (spelt wrong!)

Hopefully operable but it will have been going on for 8 years by march.

They have been good since diagnosis but before.....

This was after paying to have a private consultation in august this year after getting fed up of waiting.

Still glad it worked well for eggs

Trigeminal neuralgia

Opposite happened with me; GP said that was what I had but dentist removed molar and problem gone, makes chewing problematic though.

Pleased for you as I would not wish it on anyone. When it's bad it makes everyone around her suffer too! I know she can't help it but it's draining on us.

I had that absolute worst pain I have ever ever had, you want to tear your face off, I initially thought it was tooth related, came up clear on that went to gp 5 times and they were very little help, then one morning I nearly passed out with the pain and my Mrs drove me to casualty, brilliant doctor gave me this drug called tegretol, pain went almost instantly, the relief was almost worth the pain I was so happy! So yeah well done nhs,

She tried tegretol earlier in the year it did stop the pain very well like you say but it turns out she is allergic to it!

Gave her a rash like chicken pox!

She's on I carbamazepine now which helps to a point.

We've got to go to Sheffield in the new year to see a specialist.

The NHS sometimes works. It's amazing what you can do with 70,000,000 people's money.

Actually I'm surprised the NHS can still keep going, when you consider how many operations per day costing potentially thousands, plus GP practises etc etc. My experiace with the NHS last year when my daughter was born, a pretty traumatic delivery requiring c section and intensive care etc, was absolutely outstanding, and she probably wouldn't be with us now if it hadn't been for their diligence and efficiency.

My wife worked for NHS for 7 years though so I have heard about the other side of the coin too.

Personally. I don't really see why there shouldn't be a small fee (even a tenner) to see your GP- might cut out a lot of times wasters and hypochondriacs. I know I know, it may prevent people going when they really should! But something like that after all we all depend on it when we really need it.

Only 1 flaw in that plan....most of the time wasters and hypochondriacs are probably on benefits and wouldn't have to pay the fee anyway...just us poor mugs who work for a living as always

My experience with NHS has up until 12 months ago been excellent, real could not have faulted it. We have 4 children and the births will all handled very well, the first was very difficult and my son was in intensive care for his first few days, with a life threatening condition that was handed with great skill.

I smashed my face up pretty bad a couple of years ago and again the service was outstanding. I expected to be pretty badly scarred, but the surgeon was outstanding and there is pretty much no sign I was ever injured. And the care was so swift I only lost half a day from work.

We had a cancer scare with one of my daughters, again outstanding treatment, swift surgery and thankfully it was benign.

Now the bad bit, a little over a year ago my mother fell down the stairs breaking her neck. She was taken to Preston Royal. The surgeon was good, but the after care was dreadful, they managed to give her a bedsore in under 2 weeks, which is pretty impressive.

She is now pretty much a tetraplegic and has been in various place and the care has been shoddy at best. And the things I've seen in some of the places she has been are pretty scary.

Care of the elderly is in need of real reform, something is very wrong in this country and needs fixing, IMHO.
