Why not satisfy his curiosity and tell him which papers you read online?

I don't see it as waffling, I was giving you some examples. 

Sometimes people's reading/news choices have a huge impact on their views. Yours are pretty right wing in general so I'm curious about what provides you with these viewpoints on a variety of issues.
