Oops I didn’t spot the /c bit in the title… it has a purge bulb? Check the bulb operation and pipes for leaks. Worth noting: if the one way valves in the purge bulb assy stop working you effectively have the carb’s metering chamber connected to tank pressure.

Items 56 filter, 1 retaining ring, 23 plug are the same as mine ( I shouldn’t have removed the jet (LH part in my pic above) apparently 🙄 Item 20 check valve is an alternative fit part (that’s why it’s not highlighted). Weird, a carb with the option of no check valve ??? 🤔🤔

I happened across some WJ parts list that suggest the WJ carb had the option of not having a check valve.

If you have all the materials to hand then the dead hedge is reasonably quick to construct, there are a couple of threads on here (I think) with some others have made. Only ever done short stretches, last one was about 30' using a trampoline for supports - couple of hours to make that but most of the materials there to start with (curved shape so a little more work than a straight one). You'll also want to factor in some time over the years to top it up.

I think this will be of little interest to most but I’m wondering if there is anyone with interest and knowledge of old Walbro WJ carburettor’s…. I have this Partner 7000 pro saw, bit tatty but it’s all there and has frightening compression. It will pop with some fuel thrown down the intake so I headed to the carb to see what’s what. Well all looks surprisingly good, no fuel rot, no dirt in filter, diaphragm and pump all good blar, blar…. But the main jet check valve, didn’t work (surprisingly given general condition). And here’s where I ran into ‘issues’ - it seems like it was never supposed to work…. there is nothing in there that looks like it could act as a check valve. See picture of items that came out.

It’s part of the high speed circuit, the brass bit that pokes into the carb venturi. It delivers the ‘hi speed’ fuel into the carb. Check valve description because it stops (or checks) the air in the venturi from flowing the wrong way through the hi speed circuit and into the metering chamber at idle. Did you check the fuel line in the tank for leaks, does it run ok on a full tank? 🙄🙄….or is it accelerator piston o ring shagged again….🥱🥱

How long estimated to make a new dead/living hedge for 300ft run for an untrained person with the goal to stock-proof for sheep only? using none powered tools? Then to coppice and lay in traditional fashion a very gappy, long unmaintained hedge running about 570ft? Not totally unmaintained as it was having the usual 'massacring' running by with a tractor but not any TLC on the ground. First 300ft is priority to stock-proof as there are sheep in immediate other field. The owner refuses to communicate with me on the matter so just want to get on with making a new boundary within my own land. I am thinking coppice the small woodland by intended hedge which consists of about 0.25 acres, mostly Aspen, a good amount of Hazel and a few Oak. Oak I read will die if coppiced? but the other two coppice them. They are all very similar heights of about 15-20ft. So coppice that and use for dead hedge and also live hedge, in time, by planting shoots. Oh and quite a few Willow about but not right by the area in question, so can add some whips of them too. As above, the stock-proof must be immediate, since sheep are in the next field already. For the old hedge I read it is perfectly acceptable and indicated to coppice that too, down to a workable level, and lay in the traditional fashion. Thinking I can also lay in the 'arisings' as per dead hedge to fill the gaps and plant the cut shoots from above from this year's growth. I am conscious of the March 1st time limit to complete so perhaps the whole lot is overly ambitious? What about the 300ft though, which is most important? then the rest could be done from next Autumn.

I use this stuff. Need to get more waterproof stuff as I ran out but for some reason I had the performance wash left.

IMG_1719.mov Finally got round to a Bark Beetle death failure from Amy. Hung up and balance on a cliff over the corner of the property. 3 lowering devices, lots of rope, guy lines and stabilisers to stop it swinging j to the property when it went free. All done and clears with out damage.

Rich when you put me on to the Karona I thought it was too expensive at £300. I then spent about £600 on various waterproof jackets which weren’t actually that waterproof before finally taking the plunge! Snooze ya lose!

Well we got them a few months ago, but you know Tom, good things come to those who wait! Rich what do you reproof with? I've always been reluctant to wash waterproofs as they deteriorate.

My Swazi is about 8 years old now and still going strong. When it gets too dirty you do need to wash it to clear the pores and reproof it but I live and work in Norway and we have some very shitty weather at this time of year. Usually the only part that is damp is around the cuff of whatever I am wearing underneath. Cheers Doug, Tom saw mine at the APF quite a few years ago and he obviously put in an order for his staff. Oh, and it is no bother climbing in it.

Never had a problem. The only problem I did have was the ramps were to tight. Took to factory,free service, free ratchet straps and shown how they were built .quite interesting really
