Had a Matador back in the day. That was a good truck! Also had a couple of Bedford MK 4X4 trucks too! Left one at a mates yard when I finished and went to GreenMech. It was still visible on Google Earth 20 years later!

I spoke to a guy with a Kraz 255 truck at a military show one time long ago, it was a feckin' enormous thing literally built to withstand just about any conditions you could throw at it, I asked him,"what about servicing and parts availability" "easy" he said, "once a year we change all the fluids,, then we drink a bottle of vodka, crawl underneath and hit everything with a big hammer,,, if nothing falls off, we're good to go for another year"

Reading your post has made me depressed.

"Pretty tight" considerable understatement. I remember when the gearbox blew on Hammersmith roundabout blocking two lanes day before a bank holiday. We had lost second gear weeks before but fatty insisted it was just a worn selector fork

Happy to accept soft/ hard wood

30 years later, the cure is still the same. Turn off, turn on, problem gone for now.

I have a large driveway with easy access for any size vehicle. There is lots of space to dump a load of wood from tree surgeons and other businesses. Happy to pay £20 for a trailer load/ truck load of wood. Please text or call before arrival to ensure I am around. Thank you, looking forward to meet you!

Yes and even when they ’fix’ The problem what actually happens is someone comes up with a workaround which sometimes just kicks the problem down the road, and sometimes creates a whole series of other problems. I clearly remember my reaction when I first worked in IT support that no-one tried to actually understand the cause of the bug - they just attempted to alleviate the symptom. And that was thirty years ago; I guess it is way more complex now.

That's the thing with software, it is sent out 90% correct and working, fix it later. Imagine flying on holiday and the driver says "Brand new design of plane this one, we think 90% of it should work, and kind of hoping that last 10% isn't too critical"

Our Champ had all the miulitary stuff on it . Winch , shoval a lenght of rope and two jerry cans . I loved it but we could not afford to put petrol in it every other day !

Its come to light recently that the system used before Horizon was just as bad . Capture I think it was called .
-
As I mentioned the owner was pretty tight. New tyres would have probably made a world of difference.
-
Grim.

Just said on Sky News 40 dead so far .

I had the twin rear wheel civvy version of the RB44. With good tyres on it had very capable off road ability. First picture is just after a twit (not me) operated the 3 way tipper with the pins diagonally opposed, second one is after the chassis was straightened, new ex military single cab fitted and chip box plus tool locker made. Courtesy of Ebay it went all the way to the Falklands to work on a sheep farm.

But to add to my answer just now, even though it was not AI, it highlights the importance of any system, machine or indeed AI having proper oversight by actual humans with the right skills.
-
No it was a system designed in the nineties that had a flaw. All IT systems have flaws -bugs- often thousands. Usually when a roll-out happens the developers work with the end users and gradually work through them and you hopefully eventually get a functional system. What seems to have happened with Horizon is the state’s natural instinct to deflect any blame kicked in and therefore the only possible reason for all the errors was that suddenly hundreds of hard working sub-postmasters had become thieves. It is quite a scary scenario and no doubt not unique.
-
Have just read that one, sounds horrific.
-
From what I read, it was effectively a spreadsheet with an error in one of the formulas that highlighted - in error - that it thought the individual post office was acting fraudulently.
-
What about this.
-
I think the RB can be capable off road, especially if you put it on mog rims on with ag tyres.
-
Was the Horizon Post Office system early AI, it certainly seems to have a degree of fuzzy logic built in?
