  1. Past hour
  2. it will be used for both mate. I was just wondered whether with a 30inch bar they're quite useful for logging up and occasionally in the tree. as i say im not impressed with a 661, think the 500 cuts alot better for its weight.
  3. Hope it's nothing to serious peds best wishes Les 🙏
  4. yes 12" bar, but it is not quick, nothing like a petrol ms200t. Fine for most work upto 8 inch cuts, although I once felled a 14 inch diameter alder with it, was all I had with me. I guess I ordered it with a 12" bar thinking it would help make more versatile, but 10 inch would have been ok too. The kombi hedge cutters are good for long reach with extensions, but I prefer the hs87t for the side of the hedge, my long reach kombi stuff mostly does horrible wide tops
  5. Today
  6. If you are going to use the saw for milling then get the MS881. If its for cross cutting timber then from my experience and that of others most of the time the 120cc machines sit in the shed. They come out on the big timber jobs only, the 90cc machines see much more use.

  8. Blowers use a lot of battery power so whatever you buy get a good capacity battery or two and a fast charger. Its worth getting the S series of batteries as some of the more powerful machines require that battery to run properly. The kombi machines are really good as the motor is away from the cutting equipment so its doesnt suffer from vibrations etc. They will be more of a drain on the battery but they will last longer.
  9. Cheers will take a look at that one. As I said never used kombi stuff so don’t know how they cut. Do you run a 12” bar on the top handle? How does that handle full bar timber?
  10. Just be aware “bark” chippings are different to arborists wood chips? Bark chips are from when soft wood is “peeled” to remove the bark for stakes, rails, jump poles etc. Arborist wood chip is when everything is chipped - the clean timber, branches, leaves - the lot. Bark chips give a relatively long term decorative finish, wood chip can be unsightly and will eventually rot down?
  11. Am I wrong? Yes Are you suggesting it goes to the NHS or the injured persons? No It is stated in the HSE docs that it goes to them to fund further HSE enforcement/action. Should be on their website. Don’t think so. I think you may be getting a criminal prosecution mixed up with a civil claim. The HSE doesn’t fine you, they would present a case against you, but you would be prosecuted by a judge or magistrate at a criminal court. If found guilty, the judge / magistrate would decide If a fine was appropriate, and decide how much. The money goes to the Treasury.
  12. the only battery kit I have is Stihl top handle saw, the old MSA160T, I am happy enough with petrol for hedgecutters, I feel they are more profitable, as last longer. For a battery hedgecutter have a look at the newest model 150, single sided (with 1 metre blade option) is equivalent to hs87t 40" which I have 2 of, been using them for 10 years, best thing for facing up big hedges that I have used , better than combi attachments
  13. It has some woolly aphids but I don’t think they are not the cause, more a product of.
  14. This all day long mate .
  15. So . Putin is amassing troops and hardware on the Finish border . Does anyone think he will try and push into Finland , Norway , Sweden and the Baltic states ? Bearing in mind the average loss of troops in Ukraine is around 1200 - 1500 a week and being replaced with virtually untrained " canon fodder " and the unsustainable loss of hardware , in particular tanks or is it a bluff ?
  16. Good prompt, thanks. I need to check mine carefully again.
  17. If the tree is producing huge amounts, then leave it alone. It is quite happy, and the bits of dead wood are potentially important habitat for rare beasties and fungi . My apple trees are the most unloved trees in Pembrokeshire with loads of broken branches, dead wood, and no pruning. All fruit prolifercally. Buggering around with a mature tree will just stimulate vigorous regrowth, and become counter productive.
  18. Prompted by your post today in the"apple tree help" thread here are a couple of photos of mine today: I thought it was going alright, it has set a heavy crop of young fruit but I noticed a bit of wilt on the lowest branch, s cut it off today.
  19. Hi everyone So went self employed this year and I need a new blower and hedge cutter. I had been looking at switching to battery stuff so thought this was an ideal time. my local dealers are mainly Stihl ( one has some husky stuff) I had thought of just buying a bga 86 blower and a hsa 100 trimmer. Then in time get a long reach trimmer when funds allow ( currently would be replacing a blower and Stihl hs45 trimmer). from reading reviews these two seem to have good reviews but I also keep seeing people recommend the Stihl battery kombi units as being better that the stand alone hedge trimmers. I’ve never really used a kombi units so don’t have anything to go off for that. Any advice or recommendations ( even if it’s to stay away from Stihl stuff ) would be great. I’ve been going around and around on what to invest in as my funds are limited so obviously want to make the best choice thanks in advance robin
  20. Very sorry to hear that Peds. Hope it is nothing too serious. Speedy recovery to you.
  21. Jeyes fluid and winter wash tar oil are pretty much the same thing and both frowned upon these days. Either will burn any vegetation it contacts and best done in winter if you are determined to do it at all. Having looked at the pic properly I'd say it needs a good pruning and is still suffering from the effects of woolly aphid.
  22. Best time is after the leaves have fallen off the tree. I guess strictly speaking as it is dead it makes no difference but I'd still do it in winter rather than now. I don't think there is anything available these days that is worth painting on the cut, not sure there ever was tbh. Mercury based stuff did work well when cutting out disease but for obvious reasons that is long gone.
  23. Am I wrong? Are you suggesting it goes to the NHS or the injured persons? It is stated in the HSE docs that it goes to them to fund further HSE enforcement/action. Should be on their website.
  24. Easy access. Reverse on to gravel drive and unload on to grass.
