Wouldn't be too certain on that my family is from and mostly currently in Cornwall. My Grandfather Bruce, father Christopher Paul and uncle Steven moved up to Dorking for a while I'm not 100% certain when this was long before I was born and no one is around anymore to ask. I do have an uncle Johnny and uncle Johnothan but he's always called by his middle name Mark. Not sure if they went up aswell.

I'm going to try it on dad's 36v Makita backhandle when another few teeth have snapped off the stock chain. This stuff, for anyone joining the conversation late: https://www.stihl.co.uk/en/ap/saw-chain-3-8-p-picco-super-3-pro-ps3pro-1-1-mm-164049

I'd have to measure and double check, but mine are smaller - probably 2m at full height A frame. Means you can do an 8 foot hedge, also super compact to pop in back of van. We used to have one size up where I last worked, they were also good. Bit like saws, you want the smallest ones you can get away with as it's all weight to lug around.

p.s.I had a group scout leader Menhenitt in the 70's Kingston? John?

Not had any sizeable Sw Chestnut but it is so Oak like I'd love to have a crack. I've got 2 x 70cm by 2.9 m Oak butts tomorrow and the smell of the sawdust will be like heaven.

The taller one of those looks like it may do what I'm after. What size do you have and does it feel decently stable when fully extended? The 6.4 looks like its 3m as an A frame and £240. I dont mind paying that for a good one.

Im looking forward to it just got to find something to mill first was watching a chap at Launceston show milling a lump of sweet chestnut (I think) and the grain pattern was bloody beautiful.

I remember father saying about these pair on the double ended bar might of been before going up surrey as he bought one of these 070s brand new in 1968 or there abouts then the other in an auction not long after.

Have fun. I am looking forward to a days milling tomorrow. First for many months. Prep is everything, but that first cut. Exposing the inner beauty still gives me the God feeling as I'm the first to see it apart from him. Sorry for the derail.

I had a set of Youngman ladders for years that were only £100 or so, when it came to replace them last year I was shocked how much ladders have gone up. Got a set of these to kick along hedges, not as heavy duty as the Werner so lighter to carry around, but definitely a step up in quality from B&Q. Good compromise, easy to transport, get used a lot. Then got a 9 foot combination for taller stuff, they're ok but probably get something else next. https://www.bpsdepot.co.uk/ladders/telescopic-ladders/telescopic-multi-purpose-ladders

I've just started running it on my 36v Makita, I really like it compared to the Oregon 1.1 3/8P semi chisel it came with. The Oregon had massive safety bumpers that I had to file off to do any kind of plunge, or cut over bar length. Stihl cuts clean and fast. As you say, easier sharpening than 1/4. I basically use that for limbing out a dismantle though, I'd stick with 1/4 for pruning as cutting smaller diameters you still want a couple of teeth in contact all the time to keep the cutting smooth.

Bought a cheap mill off ebay to play about with. I've personally never had anything to do with milling so will be looking for tips and advice. My Grandfather and father done a fair bit of it with this exact saw. We actually have 2 of these 070s and where both used on a double ended bar replacing a pair of Huskys. If I end up doing a fair bit I will invest in a larger one and probably an 880 but thats probably not going to happen if it does not anytime soon. Currently can only do 28" at a push if I take the felling spikes off and thats a 36" bar my 41" bar looks to be a tad long but will see once its drilled to fit the 070 as I should lose about an 1¼" length after. Looking forward to learning this been wanting one for years.

I use a 3 section extension ladder, most of the time I leave the top extension in the shed as just using the bottom 2 makes it easier to carry to the tree. And yes, it’s taken more accidental whacks than Katie Prices taint.

Henchman tripods of any suitable size are not going to fit on a car roof rack. I dont like the idea of them although I have not used one. I imagine the normal section combination-extension, folding or telescopic types will do what I'm after. I've used similar folding ones, good for small domestic hedges but so is standing in a full to the top green bin or stack of bulk bag. They are not very high and I want something taller. Werner 12 Way Aluminium Combination Ladder | Toolstation WWW.TOOLSTATION.COM Why buy multiple ladders when one will do the job? With the Werner 12 in 1 combination ladder, you'll be ready to work at height in almost any location.Use it... If they did a larger version of the same thing. I do both small domestic hedges, fruit trees, and larger giant hedges surrounding massive estates although the latter are with estabilished arb companies that usually have a beaten up, unsafe, wobbly ladder. They have usually had more log hits on the rungs than the pan of a motorway services WC, and just as unpleasant to use. The last one I used, the pin that locks it into the A frame mode, kept slipping out on one side, not fun. If its a conifer hedge being re-topped I'll usually climb the hedge directly, as was the case with yesterdays laurel and australian cheesewood. However most hedges are not strong enough to climb so for yesterdays job I had to go back with our 3 step domestic decorating step ladder , just about did the job to reach to the back. If the ladder is stable I am usually happy to stand near the top of an 11 rung A frame without it being footed, possibly higher, I cant remember how long the previous ladder was. I dont like going above the A frame using the extensions, I dont have the balance to do that unfooted, like some people do.

imagine how good a politician you'd be - your wit and intelligence shines through in every post
-
okay then - buy a 16ft all legs adjustable, cut it up into pieces and only take enough pieces to attain the height you need on a given day - use your ingenuity to come up with a quick release for the top sections, perhaps sleeves for the back leg Each section would need another hinge fabricating for the back leg

Why don't you actually engage brain and see who used said phrase in a TV interview. I'm hardly defending anyone, you're the one running around like a Karen clutching pearls instead of seeing the bigger picture and shouting ist accusations. But hey, you're the sort of person that went down a rabbit hole peal clutching without looking up from the book of idealogical bs, maybe you wrote the SNP/NHS fife advice ?.
