  1. Past hour
  2. Love being a log goblin, I clean up after lazy groundies who leave limbs and rounds lying about and enjoy the glow a season or three later, thank you guys, please don't stop being lazy.
  3. I would tell them it's perfectly fine, doesn't need any work whatsoever for all least 15-20 years (adjust that to your expected retirement age) As an added bit of security give them your 'new' phone number for any further concerns.
  4. My first ever tree job was being a groundy on a monkey puzzle fell. Welders gauntlets offer a bit of respite.
  5. Never done one. Never going to. I've seen them up close. That was bad enough.
  6. Today
  7. AHPP

    Chickens?

Some more local chicken consultants concur and also add that hindquarter feathering is another giveaway. Fluffy roundarses for girls. Sharper thighs for boys.
  8. ah i see you have worked with monkey puzzle before!!!
  9. Arbs good and you can make good money if your head is screwed on. A few years of grinding and you'll be fine. 33 is nothing, I switched at 37, give it a punt

  12. This thread feels underused. It could be mega useful. Aware it's harder to post things without specific questions/stimulus but anyone feel free to chime in with any little win/loss they've experienced recently out there at the coalface of customer service. As seemingly insignificant as you like. Someone will learn something. Tell you what, let's talk websites. I'm writing the guff for mine atm. I know what most arb websites look like. What have people had on theirs that have caused them grief? What don't you have on there but keep thinking you should add?
  13. As you already have a rough terrain FL ticket , try telehandlers on building sites , good pay , agencies always seem to be looking for operatives ....but Arb work is more fun / interesting ....
  14. Then they're a tasteless prick with worthless opinions. Another one for client psychology, @Mick Dempsey?
  15. thanks, i didnt think it looked very promising, but the tree owner was keen on the tree, so i thought id ask.
  16. As in an article 4 direction?
  17. Thanks all for your input. I probably didn't explain myself to clearly. The house is "new" to us. We bought it in June. The only covenant is the garages cant be coverted to resi, other than that, no covenants. Permited development rights have been revoked, but I presume that is just regarding the structure. I think I will just go for it, buy the tree it's Β£700 delivered and planted and take a punt that we are within our rights. Thanks all who took the time to comment.
  18. Make a good swingers/fetish venue ......
  19. You'd be better off being an electrician or plumber , not many tools or certs to make decent money .. local work, not weather dependant I'd say by the time u get up to speed you'd be a knacker, both getting experience and your body's ****************ed . If you became an agricultural engineer , hours can be shite ,pay isn't great unless you freelance , then u need the tools. Constructions just as wank with kier getting the dinghy dwellers in to push rates down and get projects in back on price . To be honest most farmers are buggered and have to do a second trade to keep a farm going ..
  20. And not that greater money ,railways has had it now
  21. I know of persimmon doing it on 1970s houses in Dorset, depends on who built them and if any caveat stands. All I was trying to do was ditch clean on a bit of land brought from Taylor woodrow ...complete no no . And u can't beat the nimbys and nosey hunts in dorset ....bear in mind 70% aren't from Dorset!!
  22. With the length of the auger, you have to be a bit careful not to bend them (from experience)
  23. Fancy a career working in the tree and vegetation management industry? Love working in the great outdoors? We have full time positions open for climbers and groundsmen to work across multiple work streams. Applicants must be self motivated and prepared to work within a team. Industry qualifications in chainsaw use and climbing are preferred but not essential. The ability to get to and from our yard near Colburn on time is an absolute must!! We offer competitive salaries based on experience with the chance to move up as your career progresses within the business. At PLS were passionate about training and upskilling our team. We deliver training on a regular basis so you can be sure to progress in the tree care industry and maximise earning potential. To apply, please send a brief CV and contact details to: [email protected] #treesurgeon#treecare#utilityarb#jointheteam#arboricuture#arborist#training
  24. Give ecology a go - I would wager you already know more than most field surveyors. If you’re happy to travel and take anything that comes Β£20-25phr plus expenses will get you plenty of work, build up your experience and skill base get a couple of class licenses under your belt and charge more per hour/daily rate. The above is heavily seasonal so then spend the rest of the year gaining experience working in arb/forestry in a machine/working on a machine! I would take someone like yourself over a younger chap all day long, as you presumably know how to graft and have a true understanding of business. Good luck
  25. That's pretty much the nub of it- I appreciate that I'll be earning less until I've got more qualifications/experience. How much would I expect to earn as a second fiddle?
  26. Aye your right mate … you can make Β£200 a day a Tesco … I’m starting to question why I’m doing this , if there was a way out of the industry for me I’d probably take it.
  27. Always nice when Mick calls into the news thread.
