  1. Cutting some nice beech yesterday and today. Site was rather inclined with no vehicle access. Slabs and trunks slipping around [emoji51] Cutting went fine until... But the quality of the planks, gentle spalting and fantastic grain. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  2. I have a 435ii that was failing to start. I replaced the ignition module and now it starts fine. However it now appears not to come off fast idle. The usual blipping the throttle after start doesn't reduce the idle speed and the chain runs quite fast when I take the brake off. As the saw warms up the idle speed drops so the chain just creeps forward, but doesn't stop. I think it is a fast idle issue as the T screw is as far clockwise as it will go and adjusting the L screw doesn't make much difference. I can't see the ignition module having any impact on idle speed? Any ideas would be appreciated.
  3. Finally got round to putting together some video footage of recent projects. Hopefully you'll enjoy and feedback is always welcome. Link below for the video. [emoji116][emoji108][emoji106]
  4. Hi Does anyone use microbull at treecare or forestry jobs? If so how it have been working. How much maintance needed and have you find something what is just design wrong. Allso intrested about used ones if anyone knows where to find those
  5. Thinking of getting one but most jobs are hilly or with bad access so use of Ramps is a must. I have a stump grinder with electric drive and it can go up steep stuff and drive into the pickup. How good is the drive on a M500? Would it drive up into the back of the pickup? (folding ramps)
  6. Has anyone used these yet? One would assume them to be good as they’re built for purpose [emoji848]. ADVANCE ProCOM ear defenders set - Smart, efficient, comfortable communication WWW.STIHL.CO.UK
  7. Does anyone have any experience of bypassing the dual handle operation on a log splitter to make it run on a single handle? I’m using rock machinery splitter and have rigged up a bit of a “bodge it” modification with a piece of rope (works, but isn’t as comfortable as a nice ergonomic handle!) Any ideas or knowledge grateful received
  8. As the world becomes ever more aware about mental health and employee wellbeing is it becoming more standard to have these in place? Our story... We've had this in place for around 4 years now after one of our youngest lads father sadly took his own life and until covid it was barely used by any of the lads. My thoughts about it have also changed, before I saw it as another expense sadly and wrongly so. With having access to 24hr 7 days a week it not only covers employed staff but their spouse and children. It covers most things including alcohol, drugs, loss of a loved one, loneliness, anxiety, stress, sleep and a whole lot more. I'm now fully behind it and believe that it's a great cost to spend. But I guess my question is more of because men do find it hard to talk and most of us have had bad days, weeks, months. Do you think this would help you as a business owner or an employee? I mean it's helped me as well, my early to mid twenties I was, well a arrogant dickhead to be fair and honest, losing some arb friends who just walked away but then it wasn't something you talked about so much back then and I don't blame them or hold and grudges. I'm sure there's a few posts on here that would back that up my knobbishness from years gone by. Sadly I didn't have access to this stuff and had a long road to recovery over the years but I was lucky that I have wonderful support from my wife and real friends that helped me hopefully become a better person with me feeling better in myself over the last few years from using it. But whilst sitting in the truck waiting for the rain to pass I was wondering if I'd had access to it back then how much better I could have been sooner. I fully accept some might read this and think it's a load of tosh but wondered if it may lead to some positive conversation with tips of how others got better. So I'll start off with a couple of things that have seriously helped me. * understanding that somethings are out of your control. * breathing techniques and yoga (yoga with kassandra helps me most mornings on YouTube [emoji6]). * openly talking to friends and family about your struggles and stresses. I have loads more but its stopped raining so I'm about to jump out of the truck and crack on surveying but please post your advice or even maybe take that step and voices your worries, you never know a member on here may have been through what your currently starting to experience. Apologies for the waffled post I'm writing it on my phone and the gramme police haven't turned up to correct me yet. [emoji30]

  10. Anyone know how to talk through the x com r without making a phone call
  11. Thought I’d throw this one out there to see what everyone’s views are. I’m currently running an MS391 for cutting logs to length before splitting. I like the power and the speed it rips though the logs, but the weight isn’t great when I use it for a long period of time. I have a MS181 as a back up, a good saw, but is miles behind the MS391 for efficiency. What back up saw would everyone recommend?
  12. As per the title, is this suitable for outside in a garden? Planning on using four trunks as uprights over a patio purely as I’ve access to plenty. It’s all standing dead without bark and as hard as nails. Planning on welding up some heavy feet to keep the bases away from ground dampness and giving the wood a few coats of clear preservative. Am I being stupid, or have my plans merit?
  13. @doobin@donnk@dumper I’m reasonable at remembering people on this forum, what they do, what they know about, whether I trust them or like them etc. But for some reason I just can’t file you three in my head. I keep thinking you’re one person. Would you be so kind as to each briefly say where you live, what you do etc and describe yourselves. Like I know one of you runs old vehicles, one buys new diggers, one doesn’t just do trees. No idea which one which though. Odd request I know.

    Nottingham

Whoever decides what street trees to plant in Nottingham is clearly having fun. An unusual prevalence of robinia pseudoacacia and some other stuff I don’t recognise. What’s this one in the town centre?
  15. I'm unsure about this pale bracket on sycamore, photo taken back in January. Advice would be gratefully received. Best wishes. Tom.

  21. Hi can anyone tell me which is the best effective herbicide treatment for killing tree stumps close to other living trees without harming the others?
  22. Went to see a eucalyptus dalrympleana today. Really nice old guy who planted the tree in the 70s from seed. He is concerned now about the size of it and the proximity to his house. He wants it removed but doesn't want it going to firewood. I have no experience of it at all. I understand its durable. Few questions. Would it be a good timber for fencing or garden furniture? How thick is the bark likely to be. Any opinions on previous experience Milling it. The guys Garden is like an arboretum. He a nice chap and would like to help him out. Pic of the 3 eucs to go. Big one is about 850mm dbh

  24. A right wing populist government conning the poor and ignorant or a neglected working class population fed up with Labour not doing their job?
  25. I’ve got orders coming in the Larch but I’m unsure what to charge. £3 a board foot seems the going rate for 153mm x 18mm cladding. Does this sound right? Would the same BF price go for 6x2” etc?
