  1. Haha Sounds bit of an awkward position you got yourself in don’t think the bloke in question today was pissed today just a dumbwit thinking about id rather have stayed at home
  2. Been working with a workmate on and off for 6 yrs or so .but today I almost lost it big time and fell out . intrested to hear how others in the same situation would feel I was suppose to be helping him on a job today and arrangement was pickup at 9 called me at 8.20 saying 5 minutes away and I said not ready I will meet you at the job site at 9 as it turns out he told me completely the wrong area / road and sent me on a wild goose chase for nearly an hour after several callls later still wasn’t much help and didn’t make it obvious where he was . when I finally arrived at gone 10 he wasn’t apologetic as expected but rude and patronising. stayed for the day but still pissed off and thinking don’t bother again with such people even if they are old mates I said I will finish the job tmr but totally gone off working with him rant over
  3. 3m heigh fence with gate like this one with added spikes and cctv camera with motion camera on long pole with 3 very strong sliding locks on the gate would be a good start to keep the pikeys out .added security inside the unit would also be an idea
  4. I wasn’t that impressed with them but they are fine for rough work oregon semi chisel seems like a good one and not as much as stihl I was tempted at giving the Carlton ones a go.anyone used them?

Them 261s do come in handy.recently picked up a 241 it feels much better balanced but only running 14’’ on that .

It was moving a bit on the discovery but didn’t seem to have power to pull it over .before doing any cutting it was already leaning on the fence .i left about 7cm of wood in between front and back cut but still wasn’t going nowhere then cut slightly more out and flew the wrong way. never mind

That’s true .the mistake could maybe have been avoided .easy to say though.the 391 seems to have overheated a bit it was bit crap anyway

We went to this job this afternoon and the big 15ft 2Ton ish oak lump only fell the wrong way ! It was bit challenging as some of the wood was rotted and some not and with a rabbit nest going underneath it .it seemed to be very top heavy and even pulling with a discovery it wasn’t budging much it went a bit but not enough .then made the mistake of cutting out possibly too much wood and it then went backwards into next doors fence and driveway so having to go back tomorrow to finish off .very lucky There wasn’t a car parked on the drive next door as would have definitely been a write off.i think we had the right idea but needed more pulling power .lesson learnt anyway walk away next time when people give you these sorts of jobs
  9. I’ve had a convincing experience myself but no one took me seriously so put it down to imagination we all die someday so might find out what goes on

Sorry for any confusion but I thought it’s obvious the topic is about trying a big bar on an 391.

Wood has got to be moved manually onto a trailer .once on the floor I might see how easily it splits in half with an axe.probably lots of cutting needed though but possibly will partially smash on impact

There website states 056.they have also got 36’’ made for 066.660/661 .maybe the 660 would have been a better choice ? It should still cut ok but bit slow with oil flow on max

Thanks .i have gone for the price driven decision of the rotatech 056 .36’ bar and chain so will see how I get on with that .

Yes it’s a 15ft oak stump not far off 6ft diameter.think I may struggle with 20’’ but it’s hard to tell how rotten it is inside before doing any cutting.i reckon it was cut and left at 7-10 years ago
  15. Anyone know what’s the biggest bar compatible with this model? I’ve got a one off job needing 36 inch i am looking at a rotatech 36’’ one for a Stihl 056 which might fit or would the bar mounts need altering? I know it would be slight underpowered but only need to make about 7 cuts and don’t have a need for chains this big
  16. bit of a guess but i reckon half an acre of newly planted Hybrid poplar will absorb around 1.5 tons rising to nearer 5 tons as they get nearer to ten year old
  17. At least the littering kids were taught some sort of lesson.i had similar experience earlier in the year but there kids dropped all there junk food wrappers out there car window in front of where we were working we politely said pick it up there is a bin bit further up the road up the road but became clear they didn’t care .we throw it back through there window and they threw it out again .
  18. Cashew nuts and those rice yogurts will do the trick .sandwich not very filling though I might try homemade soup in a flask next week
  19. I’ve had a few tricky bamboo removal jobs I have found glysophate won’t do much at all .several goes with a long fencing spade seem to work ok but no guarantee of success rate .it can be a bit like bindweed where the smallest piece of the root left can regenerate again especially if its next to a river .wouldnt quote for the job price but hourly rate and clearly state no guarantee it won’t come back.
  20. Yeah pump stuff smells like a bonfire.i’ve seen I can get 270L for £15.60 for each 5L can.its tempting but don’t really want to buy more than 20 cans a time. I guess I will also be comparing fuel usage in different saw models .one of the workers said they use 4L a day which seemed alot
  21. As highly as I rate aspen the weekly running cost will be too much for some heavy saw jobs I have looked at .the cutters had never even heard of the stuff and almost fell over when I said nearly 20quid a gallon.not sure if I will take the job knowing that I can’t stand unleaded
  22. Heartless barstards.it still amazes me what people get away with now and rarely seem to get caught .saying that i once got back a stolen bike from a little shit who clearly stole it himself and stupid enough to ride it the next day a few miles up the road . we are too easy on these people.a good hard punch in the balls would teach them more

    Euroforest

Cannot see the road on the one network job site map but a nearby road is shut for ash dieback clearing so I’m assuming its the same but couldn’t seem to see any from the road .probably all going for biomass which is a bit of a waste of a prime firewood but I guess that’s where the market is for it in bulk.but some companies are bringing kiln dried from overseas still where is the logic in this
  24. Jack.P

    Euroforest

Noticed today euroforest have a sign stating a main road will be shut for 10 days for forestry operations at the end of the month .But I was wondering why so long and how is it allowed on this scale in a conservation area? ( didn’t look like another ash dieback job but could be wrong) With all equipment they probably could cut all roadside stuff in two days max or they could have put traffic lights up etc to keep the road open I am intrested to know what there plans are .anybody work for them?
  25. Been doing a job for a client today and they had mentioned about an old magnolia tree can these be pollarded like willow and if so when would be the best time to it ? (south England climate) also would it be better to cut just below the new growth or cut each small stems back individually? (picture is of the tree from a year ago but in the winter ) They want it topped off a bit but not cut these trees before .it seems like it won’t benefit the tree much and better off saying no ? Thanks
