If your going on a trail mission of that length your gona need a power source to keep ya recorder going, that could potentially be weighty needing multiple items if your tenting. I’d go with a head mounted gopro or the similar with some offering mega battery life, and it keeps your hands free. B&B is your answer at 15 - 20 mile ish intervals, thats plenty mileage in a day to keep ya just under the threshold of burning yaself out, thats if your doing a full venture of lakes in one hit. I’ve done quite a lot of the wainwrights, but was a good 10yrs since. Very enjoyable with right weather, f’kin shite and depressing if it decides to turn on ya!

My oil tank needs filling when i refuel on my 026, theres about 1/4 of oil left if that, but i’m only pulling a 16 inch bar, your pulling twice+ the length so your gona need a good amount of oil for that size of bar / chain. I’ve never milled myself (but would like to in the future) so i’m no expert Westy, just looking at it in a mechanical sense. I’m sure RoughHewn / possibly Wonky mentioned in another post about a uprated oiler kit for saws associated with milling? I think like billpierce said earlier you may cure it with a brand new chain with no previous wear / stresses.

Doubtful, if you were having it contract that much then you would of had to of had some serious heat build up in the first place to which your chain would of obliterated already during use. I personally do think you have a part issue with heat though contributing to your failures.

I’d still find/have plenty to do, not one for being sat about, but i wont be tied down to working for anyone full time by then i’m hoping. I shagged a chain up just before xmas on a 021 running with a knackered sprocket and the oil pump was weak on it too. Those straps look very similar in the way they have worn, so it just makes me think that a slight shortage of oil may be a contributing factor on the chain failures, heat mainly being the starting point of weakness setting in.

Its what you make of it like anything in life. If your suited, dedicated and love to do house bashing and renovating, that when finished gives you a rental house (or a few in the future, portfolio as they say) and you can make the figures stack up in your favour.... then thats earning a crust, go for it! Regards tenants etc, you can do the vetting before hand, all the decisions can be yours. If you get a bad one and it costs ya.... then hey ho, suck it up, you made a bad choice. But that will influence your decision for next time, we all learn from our mistakes. Go for it, only here once!
