  1. Thanks squaredy
  2. Hi. I have milled a bit of elm. It's not something I usually do. It was dead standing for about 18 months. I've cut it in 3" slabs. Plan is for a chunky coffee table. How long drying before I can use it? I'm hoping it's not the inch/year rule. 3.5 ft lengths, if that makes any difference. It will be outside, covered with reasonable airflow. Thanks
  3. I decided a long time ago to not have any small tool insurance. I put a bit aside, and spend a bit extra on security. Fortunately, in 30 years I've only lost 4 saws to theft, and I blame myself for the incident
  4. Why do people pay insurance companies and then not claim for the reason they have been paying them?
  5. I don't think you're going to get a straight answer to that one.
  6. Maybe not the helmet causing the rash. If you've got contaminants, sawdust etc in the headband. Need cleaning regularly.
  7. Go on, how much do timberwolf want? There must be an alternative supplier. I'm sure timberwolf don't make their own?
  8. Part of the adjusting screw damaged/ snapped (or thread) causing blockage?
  9. Hi William. I don't know anyone in your area, but my advise would be (and some may disagree with me) Contact some local companies and offer yourself for a day working for free. A day is enough to give a good impression. I normally make my mind up about people within 10 minutes. If you can , try a few companies. Everyone does things differently. And I have to tell you, all outfits aren't good. You can actually learn as much, if not more with a bad company than a good one sometimes, but you don't want to get stuck with a bad company. So if you can, work for a few before you commit yourself to one. Good luck 👍
  10. Hi What should I paint my chassis with? It's an 05 transit tipper, so I don't really want to go to town on it. Just something that requires minimal preparation and is not too expensive. Van has just had a bit of weld for mot, for the first time. Just hoping I can slow down the demise a bit. Thanks
  11. There's no way I'd be moving 7t in two trips in my transit!
  12. Mix workshop stuff with vigorous gym activity!
  13. Pallet wood?
  14. Put it in the back of your van and invite the coppers back?
  15. Personally, if I were you, I wouldn't damage it. Even if you intend replacing it. Especially since you've already approached the council and started a thread on a public forum. It does seem a bonkers choice of species though. I wonder if it's just what they had a stock of. You've done the right things so far, just ended up with the wrong person dealing with it. Have another go, see if you can speak to someone else. Good luck.
  16. Any debris should be visible. I was thinking it might settle in the tank. Then the vibration of running the chipper agitated it and sometimes causes a blockage, hence the fault being intermittent. Just clutching at straws really. If you and your mechanics can't suss it, it's probably not that?
  17. Moisture in fuel tank, or some sort of contaminant/debris in tank?
  18. The person quoting you either doesn't want the work or is trying to rip you off surely. I might be wrong, but get someone else to have a look. Most people won't quote from a pic, but if you can put one on here, people will be able to confirm this. Maybe he's scared of chickens.
  19. 3400 rpm rings a bell. I'm not a mechanic, but I've got a 190. I seem to remember the rollers won't activate below 3000
  20. I'll be dismantling a dead standing elm in the next month. The customer has asked me about the possibility of carving the stem, in situ. Who's the carver on here from the Soutport area?. Would Wirral be your patch? Or anyone else interested? It could be a waste of time, the tree is in a flat's communal garden and not everyone has agreed to the idea yet. If anyone wants to give me their number, I'll pass it on. Or I can give you the property managers number. Thanks
  21. Yes. Obviously that is the aim , but I doubt if this will achieve it.
  22. The most gimmicky of all gimmick policies. Are we going to have 29 year olds hanging around newsagents in 10 yrs time waiting for 30 year olds to buy their ciggys?
  23. It will be part of the road soon!
