Amazing isn’t my choice of word at the moment…… [emoji23]

    Arthritis

Here’s my current state of play. Triple fracture in the tibia 3 weeks ago. 5 pins and a plate popped in to fix it up.
  3. What Mick said. Nice timber when it’s milled. I’ve got some nice boards that should dry now. I’ve found it to be an excellent firewood too. Kicks out serious heat in my pizza oven.
  4. Exactly as above. The 562 is a good saw but it will struggle on 24” let alone 28”. You would need to port / modify it to run that length bar. I use a 20” on mine. Ok on softwood. Realistically it wants to be on 18” in tough hardwoods. 572 will run a 24 fine. Don’t think I’d want a 28 on that either in standard trim.
  5. I’m another vote for the rock venom. I think mine is the 22t road tow. Vertical and horizontal. Never refused a log. Only cost £1500 delivered. Can’t complain for that. I’ve taken it to a few tree jobs to process on site too. Great for the price.

    Handle

As above. Make one. Use the bit left as a template and then free hand design the grip. Choose a nice wood and make it a nice feature. Metabo do a great tool for cutting back and polishing metal. You can achieve a mirror finish should you require. Does it have a peg style handle the other end to make it a 2 man saw if required. ?
  7. You need two people feeding those to take full advantage of it. They supply a 4 way head with the 20t machine It’s pretty good. For the small amount I split it’s fine. I only split 50m3 to 70m3 a year If you can source nice diameter stuff that’s split once on the 4way it’s good. Over sized logs waste time halving them etc to manageable sizes to handle on all Splitters like this. Mines been a good little machine. Cheap too.

    New 3.5t tipper

exhaust circulation is used to reduce the oxygen in the cylinder when there is too much for the cleanest burn ratio. When there is little fuel being injected, the air/fuel ratio changes and too much oxygen in the burn creates more NOx - NOx is one of the main gasses that the emissions legislations are trying to combat. A bigger engine which isnt working very hard will last much longer, but it produces more NOx, etc. Hence manufacturers turning to smaller engines which are working harder, they produce a hotter, cleaner burn - naturally this uses more fuel, extra fuel is also used to heat the engine up quicker from cold as its most efficient at working temperature and more fuel used again to clean the dpf during regeneration. Result is a thirsty vehicle which produces less emissions [emoji1474]

    New 3.5t tipper

Some Exhaust gasses are passed back through the engine and more fuel is used running hotter to give cleaner overall emissions.

    New kiln

Mr Parsons bringing home my new kiln ……. I’ll be over with some boards Mr P [emoji106]. Good job.
  11. What a great truck. I do love a yank pickup truck [emoji106]
  12. We know that bit. Unsurprisingly you can’t find anyone….
  13. Didn’t fancy the job then mate ..?[emoji4]
  14. I think you could gather more information on chainsaw accidents from a YouTube compilation of ‘chainsaw Idiots’ than from This thread. I can’t see this being very fruitful. At least Joe Newton and Monsieur Dempsey have posted amusing replies.
  15. Sooooo anyone going to apply for the vacancy ?………………….
  16. I was looking at tree work at a customers place recently. Well I’ve never met the client, just the house manager for this property The garden is 75 acres of mostly well kept garden. Glendale’s have the maintenance contract. They supply 4/5 gardeners every day all year round. And until recently had sourced machinery such as tractors / large mowers etc. The House manager informed me that they were on the way out. He explained that the management had a very unprofessional attitude and just didn’t seem to care much. They were also trying to source new purchases such as large compact tractors etc. The house manager said they added about 15 or 20% to the list prices at lister wilder and expected it not to be noticed …. 🤦‍♂️. A lucrative contract lost, probably multiplied by losing the contract on the owners other houses. That said the house manager was newly appointed and obviously trying to make a name for himself. Give it a year he’ll probably be be gone. He’s the Third in 2 or so years I’ve done tree work there. Those Russians don’t suffer fools…… I think the first house manager is at the bottom of the lake there …. [emoji848]
  17. If your using green boards / planks you can get a lot of movement on them. You’ll be gutted when you make a nice oak bench and the board propellers leaving you with something like a rocking chair to sit on. There’s rustic and there’s unusable …. Been there, tried it. Even 3 inch boards can cup and propellor more than you ever think. Any movement will snap fixings/screws / timberloks like matchsticks. When Green oak framing beams will still settle and move but not as bad as boards. If you peg mechanical joints use kiln dried oak pegs As the green timber dries it contracts around the stable peg giving a vice like hold. Best thing would be to piggy back a few boards into a local kiln. They won’t have to be super dry as if it was for indoor furniture etc where you may well double kiln down to something like 8%. Get the worst of any movement out of the way and reshape the boards they’ll be fine for out doors Or simply write a little disclaimer s as bout using the timber green so you aren’t into remaking a bench in 18 months time ….
  18. Lazy people doing local authority work to a mediocre standard around my neck of the woods. That’s the general opinion around here anyway.
  19. Personally I don’t get it. If I want a 50cc husky I want the top performance one. But that’s me. The fact is you guys bought the less ‘whizzy’ version for various reasons to suit your needs so there’s a market and I guess that’s the crux of it. They sell ! If you like husky and couldnt get a 565 you’d prob still buy a 572 but as it’s an option , you voted with your wallet buying the 565.
  20. Only £460 for a 550mk2. (If you get your vat back) Never understood why husky do a de-tuned version on their saws. Seems a little pointless when for a few quid more they sell their full fat version Like 572/565. 595/585 Anyone know why ?
  21. They are pretty much the same price Mick. Been my favourite 50cc saw out of the husky stihl and echo trio for a couple of years. Best to run a ‘mixed’ fleet. None of them make a perfect range of saws. Definitely gone off new stihl saws. Very flimsy build on them compared to husky and they definitely ain’t cheap Not tried the mk2 550 yet. I nearly buckled last week whilst waiting in honey brothers. I just didn’t need it although I may re convince myself next time I’m there [emoji23] I could do with a husky 572 in the locker though…. [emoji848]. I got a quote from Walker saws to have a ‘walkerized’ one shipped over .. about £1200 all in. Where’s my wallet ..

    New 3.5t tipper

Yeah they’ve come a long way. My first hilux was a 3 litre surf. Lovely car. Way underpowered by my current ones figures though. Would struggle towing the same weights. I mapped the invincible to 230 ish bhp. It’s been a superb vehicle. Had defenders etc etc. Non of the vehicles are perfect. The pickups are the best compromise in 4x4 terms for me. Hilux just happens to be the flavour I like best but they are all decent these days. All have their faults and good points. My transit is only a 125bhp 2.4. As a tow vehicle on the road it’s probably my favourite. It’s geared well and the big wide long wheel base and extra weight really irons out the pitch/yaw effect of a trailer on the tow bar especially down bumpy back roads.

    New 3.5t tipper

Horse power is a misleading figure in working vehicle terms. A 1.8 golf will have more bhp than the Ford Ranger. An 18 t lorry has the same sort of horse power as a sporty estate car Not even worth looking at horse power figures on vans. Down to torque and how it’s geared. Modern engines are more efficient and burn cleaner with less pollution but they use more fuel to do it. Anyone buying a new tipper just needs to buy the best they can realistically afford. The least abused and most looked after My mk7 2.4 transit has been superb. Hard to find a good clean sensible mileage one now though. Worst thing I’ve driven of late is the 1.9 Isuzu grafter. What a miserable van that is in every respect.
  24. Cheers spud [emoji106]
  25. No notable mark but there was a tiny ridge on the piston crown on the exhaust side edge. Quick rub with super fine wet and dry it was gone. If that top piston ring grove is slightly compressed I’m guessing new piston required.
