  1. I think you just got unlucky. I abuse mine and I’ve yet to have a Stanley fail that quickly. Normally they go through my own fault.
  2. I treat Tape Measures as disposable items. If they last me a few months Im happy. I like to have a few laying around, workshop, house, car and in my milling kit. I really like the Ox Pro 25 foot Tape. A little pricey but it really lasts. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OX-TOOLS-Blade-25-Foot-Measure/dp/B09RQ78VZ6/ref=sr_1_11?c=ts&keywords=Tape+Measures&qid=1700432487&refinements=p_89%3AOX+Tools&s=diy&sr=1-11&ts_id=1939126031 Ive a DeWalt 5m I got with a Lazer level for free. So far its held up well. I'll buy the twin 8m Stanley Tapes about once every three months though.
  3. For nice neat, clean and dry firewood to look cosy over the festive period? I assume so. At this time of year I get about 6 enquiries for Oak Mantles and very few if any during the year which I can only put down to people wanting a mantle to hang stocking on over Christmas.
  4. Make mini cruck house chicken coops?
  5. Way to many branches coming off of that stem to be worthwhile milling it in my opinion. I guess ok for fence posts or something?
  6. Is Salomon trainers issued as PPE for Dopes on Ropes? As it seems thats what they collectively wear.
  7. That a huge problem. Those with skills who are getting underpaid off-shore and told that its ok because you get lots of time off instead end up working on-shore and get to see their families each day and never head back off-shore to the crappy UK conditions on UK sector rigs. £400 a day should entice a few back, but its generally 3 on 3 off in the UK, right?
  8. Im glad things are back on the up. Was getting real bad for a while.
  9. Is the UK sector still paying that kinda money? From speaking with folk I used to work with in the North Sea those days are long gone and many skills/trades have been replaced by cheap Eastern European labour. Agency work might pay £400 a day I guess? But its not regular work and you're not an employee with any of the perks or stability.
  10. A potential stoppage is having your house repossessed as getting paid 1/3rd of your previous wage does not cover your bills?
  11. I dont remember the thread you started, I guess I missed out in that one. I would never say that a female should not enter any sector based on her sex, far from it, I openly encourage it. My day job is working in Norway and the Norgies have a far more balanced view of what women are capable of and you see women in all sorts of roles that are seen as traditionally male orientated such as Rough-Necks and Binmen (women). In this instance though we're talking about someone who is a skilled trade person, closing in on middle age and has responsibilities that would make such a drastic and uncertain change to a very poorly paid manual job a somewhat unwise career change.
  12. People are far less likely to give you an honest answer face to face though. They'll just blow smoke up your backside to avoid offending, or to tell you what you want to hear to avoid a confrontation. They'll just tell you 'yeh thats a great idea! You should really really go for it'.
  13. Oooooeeerrr !
  14. You want to give up a skilled career to work minimum wage?
  15. Ive never had an issue with either of my Stoves. I expect the problem is people just not knowing how to properly operate their stoves rather than the manufacturer not offering stoves that do their job correctly.
  16. And who’s is the van that looks like the gypo’s abandonded it? Honestly, if criminals were housed this way they’d have a genuine human rights case on their hands. Perhaps the Boat People should be put up this way? That would soon stop them.
  17. I’m in a Sandstone Farmhouse from 1880 and don’t have any of the issues you’re having. Both my stoves are modern Eco designs.
  18. I burn over 30m3 bags of firewood a year, almost 50/50 split between my living room stove which is an Aarrow (Arada)Ecoburn 11 and my Esse Ironheart. They’re both on almost all the time all year long. Only the Livingroom stove gets a rest in the height of Summer. Over the last 5 years I’ve only ever had to change out Fire Bricks twice and a set of Rope Seals on Both.
  19. The South Esk the flooded Brechin runs about 1/2 a mile south of my house about 1/2 a mile to the North it passes Justinhaugh. It must have been something else to have seen the river burst its banks so badly. Just past Justinhaugh is Finavon and the A90 crosses the South Esk there. The A90 is still not open due to the bridge being weakened. So gridlocked traffic in Forfar and a huge amount of traffic piling past me on the B957. We lost power but apart from that it was quite uneventful for us. These Pics are from Justinhaugh. Marykirk had it bad and the road will most likely be closed for a good while. The Aberlemno road is still closed too. A mate owns a section/bank of the South Esk, I’ll be over there tomorrow and see what the damage is
  20. Thats a cool picture! I have Starlink as well. Gone from 8mbps to between 150-300mbps.
  21. Amazing work! Whats the plans for the land now?
  22. Check out this watercam footage of the River Esk, at Edzel, from... WWW.FACEBOOK.COM Check out this watercam footage of the River Esk, at Edzel, from www.farsondigitalwatercams.com
  23. Id plan a nice fruit or nut bearing tree. A dwarf Walnut Europa would be stunning.
  24. Just sell the volume of a builder bag and charge accordingly?
  25. That’s a good site! I’ve dropped them an email. It’s not easy to get even a rough price out of any of them. Not even a figure to see if it’s worth carrying on looking into . Looking into the US is another option, good call!
