  1. Thinking about it more and looking more into Earthballs I’m not so sure now. year round they are never bigger than in the pictures and generally Hazelnut/Cob sized. They certainly are not potato sized. The dogs eat as much of them as they can dig out. They never go near actual Earthballs when they do grow above ground.
  2. This seems to be what they are! The Dogs love them and have saught them out for the last 8 years and seem to be fine.
  3. It’s a hard crunchy shell. They seem to be like this year round and always this size. Never see them above ground and don’t see regular puff balls above ground either. Lots of ther mushrooms though including a good crop of Chanterelles. They’re always 1-3” deep and growing within a fine mat of roots.
  4. I’ve three Samoyeds and they all love to snuffle out these things. They’re about 1-3” below ground level and in the local woodland. They seem to zero in on them and once they’ve dug it out they’ll eat it then move onto the next one. They must dig up 10-15 each on a walk. There is no real smell to them and the insides are a very fine dark brown powder.
  5. Awesome! I hope the prices come crashing down so I can pick up a bargain.
  6. Valentines day was two days ago Les.

The only issue with that attitude is as you exit your prime he'll be entering his and what goes around comes around.
  8. Ive got 1m wide Ash slabs that where milled at 5"-6" thick over 20 years ago and Ive re-sawn them to 2.5" and they've held up well.
  9. The car was idling all day just to dry out gloves I had on rotation. Was fine once you got going but stopping for lunch and getting going again was a killer.
  10. Just finished 4 days milling for a customer out in Banchory. Had two helpers the first two days then one helper the second two days. Plus the loaders. Milled an extensive cutting list out of DF & Larch. 95 x 3.6m x 8” x 2” 95 x 3.6m x 6”x2” 60 x 3.6m 4” x 2” 20 x 6” x 6” 65 x 5” x 3” He thought I’d get it all done in a day. 🤣 Was down to -4 a couple of the days with heavy snow coming through.
  11. He said to ask him. 🤷🏻‍♂️😁
  12. Now that is a clever idea! I get to use the branch logger to bag mine up. 10 x 1m3 bags in just over an hour. Folk pay good money for them too. Not done any this year though. Need to get a firewood side Hussle set up.
  13. A nice wee afternoons earner that. Plus a bunch of scabs for the stove.
  14. Depends on how desperate you are for the sale. I charge high and miss out on some sales but Id sooner do that than sell cheap. Id charge a premium for 4.8m over the 3.6m. Personally Id want £100 for the 4.8 and £70 for the 3.6m.
  15. The Alamo in San Antonio. Find a real Steak house. For a min-budget range try Salt Grass, they're based out of Houston but have restaurants all over now I think? For Sports Stores that cater to every conceivable sport and camping/survival equipment I like Gander Mountain and REI. Galveston is meant to be a really good place to visit, a lot people from Houston travel down for a short vacation. The Jonson Space Centre in Houston is a must. The tour is great as is sitting in the Press Room over looking the room where 'Houston, we have a problem' was uttered and of course landed Man on the moon. Its been restored back to how it would have looked in 1969. Walking along side a Saturn V was awe inspiring. Read the book 'The Son' by Philip Mayer and be transported back to the time of the Frontiersmen (all the way to the present day) it inspires me to want to tour Texas properly. Or be lazy and watch the two season show on ABC. There is a lot of time capsule parts of Texas Id like to see. I really enjoyed visiting Old Spring, just outside Houston. There's some great historic bars etc. I am also planning on taking my family over to Texas for either a road trip or an RV trip, maybe in a few years when the little ones are a bit older. salt+grass - Recherche Google WWW.GOOGLE.COM
  16. I think you just got unlucky. I abuse mine and I’ve yet to have a Stanley fail that quickly. Normally they go through my own fault.
  17. I treat Tape Measures as disposable items. If they last me a few months Im happy. I like to have a few laying around, workshop, house, car and in my milling kit. I really like the Ox Pro 25 foot Tape. A little pricey but it really lasts. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OX-TOOLS-Blade-25-Foot-Measure/dp/B09RQ78VZ6/ref=sr_1_11?c=ts&keywords=Tape+Measures&qid=1700432487&refinements=p_89%3AOX+Tools&s=diy&sr=1-11&ts_id=1939126031 Ive a DeWalt 5m I got with a Lazer level for free. So far its held up well. I'll buy the twin 8m Stanley Tapes about once every three months though.
  18. For nice neat, clean and dry firewood to look cosy over the festive period? I assume so. At this time of year I get about 6 enquiries for Oak Mantles and very few if any during the year which I can only put down to people wanting a mantle to hang stocking on over Christmas.
  19. Make mini cruck house chicken coops?
  20. Way to many branches coming off of that stem to be worthwhile milling it in my opinion. I guess ok for fence posts or something?
  21. Is Salomon trainers issued as PPE for Dopes on Ropes? As it seems thats what they collectively wear.
