  1. 3 years in now, on my 3rd different inspector with a 5 figure accountancy bill never mind the disputed tax figure itself . Meanwhile the agency and company directors/owners whom we worked for on the scheme and tax set up they stipulated are totally in the clear.

  3. Unbelievable but nothing surprises me with Hmrc any more. It’s strange that when it’s public sector we the taxpayers pick up the tab, when it’s private sector as in my case it’s the responsibility of the individual to sort out any shortfall as the directors of the company and agency concerned swan off after saving millions by avoiding employers NI contributions.
  4. Deck on the Trakmet sits at 840mm when set up on level ground an Ifor tri axle floor is at approx 650mm when level, well my 14ft tri axle is. My self build woodlands trailer was higher than the ifor too. If crane is loading it would not be so bad. Like I say no one machine will tick every box but it is an option I’d say.
  5. 16-18ft tri axle Les and a decent mill 15k he paid for that trailer with the HI AB etc stick 10k on for a decent mill and you have a very versatile set up. Adds few more legs etc, bearing in mind I did my woodlands twin axle from scratch !. maybe not as far fetched as it first seems. I guess it’s all down to what you are intending to do with it once built 🤷‍♂️.
  6. Guy I work with has just bought this, lovely bit of kit. You are right in a lot of what you say, unfortunately you need about 5-6 bits of kit to tick every box🤷‍♂️.
  7. Harold Andy, I think just loose stacked in the hold and offloaded with the material handlers.
  8. Transport guy hauling out of Montrose dropped a few ton of the Birch that were oversize for firewood processing, 250-400 diameter, I only wanted to mill a few logs just to see how it turned out. End product was some lovely clean straight planks so considering the price it was a very worthwhile endeavour.
  9. I’ll have to give credit to big J Les I did pick his brains on a number of occasions ref the build spec etc and it turned out to be sound advice. I’m sure it will do over 5m in length, but as you say having a loader is a big help.

Nothing to hide price wise, all In with the options inc extra length on bed and wider head, HD chassis option and extra hydraulics etc it was 27k inc Vat, I’d probs change a few things on build sheet now with benefit of time on mill but I guess you won’t get it right first time 🤷‍♂️. I’ll mod and fabricate a few things to suit myself over time but for now it’s a case of tweaking and learning every time out especially on max width cuts. . One thing I’d wholeheartedly agree with is the comments on loading etc, having a loader on-site makes a night and day difference to a days work/production rate.

  13. J the answer lies in training and investing in our own people and companies not existing for the bottom line only. The jenga comparison you mentioned briefly is a pretty simple way of getting across to people the problems we are gonna face in the future if we don’t change. That firm who has 6 lorries parked up !! offer to train some keen young lads and pay them a decent wage. Government help with tax perks for training etc of course should be in place but sadly whilst we got brexit we are still geared up to the idea of a huge pool of skilled labour that someone else paid to train to pick from and drop as it suits. The long term strategic plan to make the best of the situation is yet to materialise unfortunately and quite frankly may never.

Listened to a article on R4 a few weeks ago regards this and whilst people will try to politicise it, without fail the drivers spoken to complained about poor rates of pay especially from a few well known operators and use of agencies by the supermarkets. The EU drivers are split into well paid professional drivers from Holland, France,Germany etc and others, the others are what the operators seem to be missing. This was the views the UK drivers were giving. The answer rather than run to the EU to fill gaps is to invest and train our own people, all the companies moaning no doubt miss the cheap Labour pool that the EU offered. It always pisses me off that companies want ready made trained people regardless of where ever they come from yet won’t invest in training our own young, short term greed that long term benefits no one. Training and investment in the young right now should be an absolute overriding priority including skills such as HGV driving. HGV driver shortage is nothing new hence reducing the age limit from21 to 18 a few years back. it’s just MSM dramatising something and encouraging those who want to beat the political drum.

  16. Did 2 tours in NI during the 80s and thatchers policies on dealing with the IRA were 100% right. Gloves off no mercy. No time for the citizen smith left wing benefit of hindsight bullshit on that subject Mark.
  17. What’s they wheel tyre combo you are running The continentals on back of mine are nearly done for and was looking at some BF all terrains for next set. Not wanting to mess around too much but can get a set of 17” ltd alloys free of I want them.
  18. I figured you were asking J but just thought I’d look anyway bud. Big engine having a easy life is always better eh. Spoke to Ford dealer the other day and he was trying to steer me in the direction of a 2 litre 10 speed auto ranger 🤷‍♂️ figures are better than the 3.2 he said but I just can’t get my head around it. That would suit me just fine, pref in a patrol but I’m not fussy lol.
