  1. The wanker contracts manager that has disappeared whom was our contact with the agency that has helped shit on me and my workmates. Be bloody great to dish out some old school retribution.
  2. Not altogether sure Andy as You know I’ve been dealing with this for a while now but they seem to be ramping up the pressure big time. To state the obvious the timing could not be worse.
  3. The order you received was it for standard size ie 4x2 or something different. ?or logs for that matter. just thinking Maybe I’ll try and generate some income from that pile of Douglas I’ve got. Hopefully that makes sense
  4. Well fucked off to tell truth Kev worst thing is we had no choice at all but to go down the route we did. Something HMRC are well aware of but just don’t seem to give a shit
  5. Les was that for a standard size or made to order ??. Got plenty of Douglas left and time on my hands at minute.
  6. Not in great detail but basically a total of 48 of us were at different times employed through an agency contracting us out etc. Told on numerous occasions yeah compliant not a problem all ok etc etc, key thing was if you didn’t go through the agency whom were the sole labour provider for the client we worked for basically you didn’t work, 4 years later HMRC come knocking saying you should have done X not Y etc etc give us the difference in tax and oh by the way let’s have a bit of interest. Zero comment from agency and contracts manager from said agency whom no longer works there ?‍♂️?‍♂️Fucking brilliant. HMRC doing the standard thing and kicking the shit out the little guy. Stick in a bit of lock down and no work and things all of a sudden are looking pretty grim.
  7. Nope all tax paid up to date the whole works.
  8. HMRC ?‍♂️ Well just to start off the week the way the last one ended ie with the project myself and another 30 guys Were supposed to be starting tomorrow getting shelved for the foreseeable future due to the current circumstances. Myself and a most of the aforementioned guys stuck in an investigation with HMRC over a situation we had no control over several years ago have just received some eye watering life changing financial demands to be paid by April 20 ??.? So much for help and understanding for the self employed. Basically it’s pure bullshit and as usual the little man at the bottom gets totally humped.
  9. Cheers for the info guys. I’ll be milling the rest this weekend all being well so will stick up a few more closer pics.
  10. The pic of the pieces in the trailer was taken this morning on way out the house very early and it was indeed drizzling. The beam in Background is Douglas Fir. The later pics were of pieces milled on a nice dry day a couple of weeks ago. Definitely from same tree as I collected it where it had been felled a good while back, interesting to hear the difference of opinion.
  11. That’s from same stash done a couple of weeks ago. cheers
  12. Yeah I’ll trim off an end tomorrow and stick some pics up. It’s been laid at mine for ages. Poplar any good for working with if it is that ??
  13. Hi All looking to start a little job I’ve been meaning to do for a while, digging out some pieces of timber that might do the trick once milled. Had this for a while and was just looking for confirmation of type. cheers
  14. Agreed and understood but I can’t help but want an alternative to the two options discussed. Efficiency and competitiveness etc equals profit and invariably the guys at the bottom of the ladder getting fucked over which pretty much describes the UK sector N Sea as it stands right now.
  15. Not a nanny state Andy but what I’ve always felt and this current situation only reinforces my views is that the things deemed important to a functional civilised society, ie water, electricity, gas and national level transport should be in the hands of the state not in private ownership with only one interest that being profit for shareholders. Yeah I’m a tory voter not a socialist but deep down I would much prefer a version of nationalism. Someone else stated his belief on here that if ever there was a stark indication of the failings of globalisation and the rampant capitalism we live with then the current situation is it. Quite frankly fuck massive imports of cheap Chinese shite. Train our own kids to manufacture our own goods, concentrate on our own country first and its needs. Bit of a rant but let’s face it the position of joe average worker in the UK is shit right now. One good thing that hopefully comes out of this if it ends well is the realisation that we as a nation need to be more self reliant. Shocked to hear flights still coming in and out daily from known hotspots. We are an island ffs close the bloody borders ?‍♂️?‍♂️.
  16. It is a Rant big time combined with a drip fest. You are like many people you expect politicians to have all the answers to all the problems. That’s just not the case unfortunately they are all only people like the rest of us. Basically under the circumstances they are all doing what they can. As should all of us. Stop worrying it doesn’t help.
  17. What do you want ?‍♂️ a prophet who knows exactly what’s gonna happen combined with a dictatorship. You ain’t gonna get it not in a democracy, the post sounded and read like a Corbynite disciple whinge fest.
  18. A party political broadcast containing nothing but opinions which as we all know are like blah blah blah. Any government in this situation won’t keep all the people happy all the time, if he’d locked the whole country down weeks ago the outcry would have been off the scale, the current incumbents at number 10 are reacting as is everyone to a fluid situation based on the scientific advice available.
  19. Andy as you know I was at a large engineering works today and to put it mildly no fucks were being given mate. People sitting in canteen shoulder to shoulder no social distancing at all. Total joke. Told a couple of guys whom I had to interact with on occasion to step away from me. Not sure what it’s gonna take but people are still not taking this seriously.
  20. Hi Mark No pics from other side im afraid. Basically it’s still one cable that goes into two slings to create a bridle in a Y shape. I’d imagine problem you have is the log pivoting on the single point of contact in centre just at the point when most weight is on the winch ?. Anyway it may take a few goes to get the attachment points on the chassis and the length of the slings right but the bridle method does help. If you can’t access different length slings buy a coil of 20-25mm polypropylene rope and splice a set of eyes in each end that’s what I did until I found out what length worked well. Obviously you want the winch wire to have enough travel to get the log into the bed, if you look at mine the winch bottoms out just as log is on the flat section at top of ramps. Hope that makes sense ?
  21. Ramps and a winch set up. Most of stuff I’ve milled lately has been on the limit of mills and if I’m honest my physical capacity in relation to moving the cants etc. Like I said I’d love access to a loader of sorts.
  22. No thanks J Cup of tea does me fine bud ??
  23. Since having a rather horrendous experience with whisky as a Boy soldier being Coerced into carrying out waiting on duties for the seargeants mess summer ball at the guards depot in pirbright many years ago that culminated in me waking up in the glass house with zero recollection of anything and then spending the next 6 hrs being rifted around the depot by some pissed off regimental policeman with a floor bumper above my head just the smell of it makes me wretch??
  24. Hi Mark I had same issues when initially swapping to ripper 37 blades as they were slightly longer than the original. The combined alignment and tensioning system is indeed a pain in the arse to set up, admittedly not to bad once you have found the 25NM/Band tracking true sweet spot but it did have me losing the head at the time. Same here I’d love a little loader of some sort. I’m seriously thinking of checking out hire rates for something that would do the job say for a weekend and dedicate that whole weekend to milling as the actual milling side of things ain’t taking long it’s the log handling that’s taking about 70% of my time.
  25. Nice ? well done as women tend not to miss much.
