  1. I think they were talking about a hydraulic splitter with its own pump run from the PTO, not just a HiCrack type splitter.
  2. The first thing I did when I bought my saws was to burn in my postcode with a soldering iron on all the plastic parts, inside and out, and also in the places where it would be hard to sand off by anyone.

  4. I've got one of these mounted in the dash of my van with various charging leads going to points about the cab.
  5. To be fair to my pal he is the kind of mate you can ring up at stupid o clock when you have broken down and he will be there in a flash with a tow rope in hand. He has his own chainsaw but it's only a 12" Stihl and he was removing a line of Lawson Cypress so I said he could use my 61. I checked the bar with a square and one rail was higher than the other by about 1mm so I levelled it up on the belt linisher. Next I checked the groove width with a digital vernier and it was 2.09mm at its widest point, so about 0.6mm of slop in the bar. I used a hammer and anvil to close up the gap, testing it with the existing chain and prising back open any tight spots with a flat piece of spring steel. Tested it and it cuts beautifully, I can now take of 1/4" slices off an 18" log with perfectly plumb cuts! Thank you for the advice, saved myself some money which is always a good thing.
  6. I stupidly lent my Husqvarna 61 to a pal as I don't use it much, when I got it back the bar and chain was in an awful state, he'd been using the saw to chop out tree roots in the ground! I put the chain on the grinder to restore the cutting edge and cleaned the bar up but when I tried it today for the first time the saw won't cut straight, curving to the left badly. I checked the cutters and they are sharp and equal on both sides but when I apply pressure to the side of the chain it moves alot, also the chain links seems to be worn at the base where it rubs the bar more on one side than the other. I haven't checked yet whether one side rail of the bar is more worn than the other as well. I will get a new chain as I can't see a solution to resolve the uneven wear on the base of the links but I was hoping to salvage the bar. So my questions are: Is it acceptable to close up the bar groove? (It's a laminated bar). If not where's the cheapest place for a replacement bar, most probably an Oregon Pro-lite 20".
  7. Sounds like a good idea, got any pictures?
  8. Pond liner makes a good tarpaulin but it's expensive. Toolstation sell large rolls of DPM for reasonable money but most of the stuff like DPM and silage wrap degrade in sunlight over time so you have to class it as disposable rather than reusable.
  9. I've decided to put my PTO Saw Bench back into service for cutting logs but with a few improvements, including a home built sliding table and some guards! The existing 700mm TCT blade is pretty shagged so any recommendations for a supplier for a replacement?
  10. Thanks for the offer, if it was local I would have collected it as I could do with building a bigger log splitter but Falkirk is a long way from Somerset! Cheers anyway.
  11. Whereabouts are you?
  12. We fitted a Franco Belge Limousin wood burner 21 years ago and it's still as good as new, original grate bars and door seal although I do have a lump of 16mm plate sat on top of the grate. It gets put into service every night in the winter.
  13. Where are you located?
  14. Mulled it over and I think the sensible option is to leave the TrakMet untouched and get a 3 phase PTO generator and link it directly to a 20hp diesel engine.
  15. Excellent link there, I need to replace about 30 tips on a 26" circular saw and getting it done professionally would be uneconomical but using the TC tips from here means the blade is not scrap. Thanks.
  16. I saw the Norwood LM29 at the CONFOR show and to be honest it looked lightweight and plasticky in my opinion compared to the TrakMet, I think I would go for the Woodlands Mill and save myself £3000 and still achieve the same output rather than getting a Norwood.
  17. I have a limited budget to buy a mill. I was going to buy a Woodlands band mill for £2600 but then I saw that the TrakMet Standard is £4000 which is a much more heavily built machine but the problem is that it's electric only. The location where the saw is going to spend most of its time has no mains power, I do have a 15kva PTO generator on the tractor but it's single phase only. Even if I changed it for a 3 phase version I would have to disconnect the supply lead each time I needed to move a log with the tractor. So I am toying with the idea of getting a TrakMet Standard and fitting a 15hp Kohler type engine to it. It turns the correct way so that won't be a problem but I know the TrakMet also uses a motor to raise the head so I would have to engineer a manual crank system. Has anyone see a TrakMet fitted with a IC engine or can you see any potential problems? I've also seen that they now do a TrakMet Eco for £3000, not so heavily built and with a 5.5Kw electric motor.
  18. The chisel sets make good money on ebay if they are branded.
  19. Where has it been stored and in what form?
  20. So on the other forum I use when I click on a topic it takes me to the first unread post in that topic. With this forum it takes me to the first post every time? An example is if I click on Favourite Lasses (Or Lads), it will take me to the first post on page 1, even though I have read those posts before.
  21. Also limiting posters signatures as when your reading on a tablet or phone you may have a one sentence post and a 3 sentence or bigger signature!

  23. Had a reply from eBay: We think eBay account tomzet has been used without the account owner's permission, so we're now restoring it to them. To protect this member's privacy, we can't share any more details about their account. People sometimes misuse eBay accounts by sending emails from them. In these emails, they invite you to buy or sell outside eBay, or ask questions that have nothing to do with eBay. They do this in the hope that you'll respond and give them your email address. We strongly recommend you treat emails from this member with caution and don't respond if you hear from them again.
  24. The trouble is you can't report an eBay ad from either the IOS or Android apps, you have to use the web page. I have reported it as a Fraudulent Listing as that's the closest category I could use even though that's supposed to be 'An item being sold without the owners consent".
  25. Is it this one? Peterson Portable Sawmill | eBay I was suspicious as well and asked if the pictures were of the actual saw and this was his reply: "Hi, yes the photos are from the actual saw. do you want to see more photos? send me your email to attach them or reply directly." The trouble is if you look closely the pictures are of two different saws!
