  1. Ive found the 540 is a good bit thirstier than the stihl equivalents but doesnt bog down as easy when the nose is buried in the thicker wood. Side note-I think this might turn into yet another stihl/husky debate...lol
  2. I used to be stihl loyal, looking back,i dont know why. Ive used predominantly stihl saws but i got my first husky 540xp a while back for subbie work and rate it very highly, its better than any stihl top handlers ive used. Maybe some people-myself included-buy what were used too, creatures of habit and all that,so we become brand loyal. Its a bit cheeky for some random fella to challenge you in a shop for wearing two branded items...i wear stihl, husky and stein clothing at work and no one has ever commented on brand mix and match....
  3. Honey brothers or skyland i cant remember which
  4. I would add no matter what silky you decide too get be careful as they can give you a serious slash, ive seen a bad silky cut to a co workers forearm...nasty!
  5. Yeah sorry 330-i was editing that haha
  6. Silky zubat 330mm is a great all round saw.
  7. Fair point,i suppose its what the individual climbers requirements are.I find the 5 meter lanyard gives me better options for optimal work positioning.
  8. When you do get a lanyard after your coarse you'll need a 5 meter lanyard for the bigger stuff
  9. Happy new year to you all.best wishes to you and your family
  10. Most companies that run cs38 coarses do kit hire, you might want to hire rather than buy the extra kit.
  11. I totally agreed with your post until i read the last line, now filled with a jelous rage...mexico!!!....hot!!!.... ahhhhh....
  12. Agree steve. The way we vote first past the post is antiquated and hugely unfair. The weather in recent years is an indication of just how extreme its going to get,but at what point do we realise its actually "happening now" and get off our arses and do something....
  13. Yes definetly,if we were to address the issues, radically reduce fossill fuel consumption for a start we could slow climate change. But this would affect us all in a massive way, just looking at fuel for example-not being able to use your vehicle everyday would reduce our ability to make a living wage, for many if not most of us thats bloody scarey. Its easier to say let the government address the problem but in reality if enough of us got together and applied pressure to ALL the goverments across the globe they would have to do something radical. We sometimes forget that we vote the government into power knowing there policies on on climate change. Unfortunatly our current government are under no pressure from us,the voters to do anything substantial to address the problems.
  14. No,i think we live in a world of denial, shifting the blame and appearing to address the issues but in reality doing sod all. I think we all know what needs to be done to slow climate change but very few of us are willing to change our lives radically too do it. Case in point our goverment has recently pulled the subsidies on the wind turbines on green energy and poured more back into fossil fuels. How many of us would happily go without fuel to help save the planet...very few. This is my opinion, others will differ im sure
  15. Yeah- can you convince my wife then...
  16. I agree with mick....facebook is bollocks
  17. Tried that....she just gnaws her way through it.!
  18. If your climbing on a blakes you might want to get a split tail to reduce wear on the end of your rope, cheaper to replace a split tail than cut lengths off the end of your rope in the long run. Have you tried a prussik loop yet?
  19. If you want to make serious money your in the wrong job mate,i know lots of arb workers, gardeners and landscapers-not one of them is well off. Count yourself lucky you HAVE a job and can put food on the table, not everyone is so fortunate. No offence but you sound a bit money mad...it aint everything u know
  20. Yeah definetley, the older it gets the more it gets abused..in 3 years ive never seen one die!
  21. Makes you wonder why it failed loler if it can still pull chippers about..
  22. Best way to deal with gorse it get someone else to do it I find its really easy that way
  23. Hello all,Since im grounded just now, weathers horrendous in scotland right now,i was wondering whats the worst thing you've done too your rope and still climbed on it. Ive seen lots of rope abuse, pulling tops of,lowering on the end of your climbing rope, pulling chippers out of seriously deep mud, nicks with silkys just to name a few, funnily enough most of this abuse has been in the subbie work ive been involved in. Im not guilty of all of the above but i admit ive cut some corners to get the job done on time. Anyone else guilty of rope abuse...?
  24. Very true, ive worked with a guy with a treehog harness with 2 rings on the bridge and the clinking is very annoying!
  25. Ive never bought a saw online and never will. I like to give the buisness to local dealers and i like to see the saw, feel its weight in my hand before i purchase. Local dealers i find will give little extras into the deal aswell, some 2 stroke stihl shot bottles, some files or a new maintenance kit. Maybe its just the tight arsed scotsman in me..!
