  1. hi. I was wondering how many of you charge for stacking customers logs rather than just tipping them. we don't currently but we are getting asked to more and it takes twice as long. thanks
  2. I will speak to them on Monday when I go down and see exactly what the 500 is for. I don't like complaining at people and don't want to threaten to go to trading standards etc but I don't feel like I am getting the service I should here.
  3. no they are having it back. no idea what they will then do with it.
  4. update. so heard back from the dealer today. the galvanise chap has looked at the photos and has said its not rust and thinks I have splashed something. no idea what but anyway. as a good will gesture they have said they will either steam clean the trailer then wayoil it or I can have a new one and pay £500. I have decided just to pay the money for piece of mind and to have a new one that hopefully wont rust again. not sure if I am happy with that or no but better than having a trailer in the yard that if I ever come to sell will be worth half of what it should be. thanks for everyone advice on this
  5. thanks for all the advise, I think I wil go and have a word with an accountant and see what they say. thanks
  6. I reclaim the vat but as he pays half of the invoice he takes a copy to claim as a business expense if that makes sense.
  7. Hi all. currently selling firewood with a friend. I am registered self employed as a sole trader and so is he. I am also vat registered for the firewood. currently he invoices me each year for half of the profits and keeps his own books and does his self assessment online and I do the same. so we charge a customer 5% vat. I take the vat, then the invoices me for half of whats remaining after vat at the end of the year. he takes a copy of all the receipts that we have and we both keep a copy for our own books. this seems a bit long winded and I was wondering if there was a way we could register for one set of accounts for us both and still split the profits. at the moment we do not want to use an accountant as it is only small scale. we are both also paye on out full time jobs. I know the obvious answer is to ring hmrc but I wanted to read up before doing so, thanks for taking the time to read this Tomm
  8. why do a few people on here feel the need to bang on about cpc and taco on every trailer or truck post. if op wanted to know about taco or cpc rules he would have asked. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. easy to fix providing you have enough slack to make a new joint. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. we have been really struggling these last couple weeks to keep our logs dry. seriously considering renting somewhere under cover but the actual profit on firewood makes you wonder if it's worth the extra on a building Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. considered this myself. ibcs season quick but the bags seem a bit better at keeping the driving rain out. had anyone else found this? Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. only ever pressure wash with water. top seems fine so definitely a reaction underneath to something. also don't live near the coast. at a guess would say I have towed it for less than 3000 miles as didn't really push logs last year and that's all we use it for. thanks Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. heard from the supplier. the manufacturer wants to send an independent galvanised tester out to inspect the trailer. he asked if this was ok with me. I said yes. I'm unsure as to what the manufacturer wants to achieve from this but we will see. Sent from my SM-G930F using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. hi all, thanks for the replies. I have emailed and asked for a replacement as I don't have any confidence in the current one even if re galvanised. assume its either a dodgy batch of galv or possibly the steel under was not clean? thanks
  15. hello all. I bought a brand new tipper trailer at the end of October last year. gradually I have started to notice that the galvanise is reacting underneath. to me it looks like rust or the galvanise failing. I rang the supplier and they have been great. they spoke to the manufacturer and they have came back and said its just oxidisation of the galv and all trailers do this at some point and that I shouldn't worry, we also have a plant trailer, a 4x6 and a flat bed and once pressure washed off none of hem look like this and one is coming up 7 years old! I was looking for opinions as to weather anyone else has seen this and weather I would be within my rights to ask for it to re galvanised or replaced. pictures are after pressure washing and scrubbing it for an hour. bit concerned as it runs out of warranty at 12 months old and it cost all but 4k so don't want to have a rush bucket in a couple years time. thanks everyone Tomm
  16. hi. yes it's the rigid twin wall I will be installing. may just have to try the duraflue and see what it's like. thanks for the replies much appreciated
  17. hello everyone. I'm once again after some advice on my wood burner install. thanks to everyone for there comments 're choice of wood burner. I have decided on a burley hollywell with log store. I have had two quotes for supply only of the twin wall. one is 1900 ish for sfl nova twin wall from a local supplier. seems good quality. the other is for 1000 for a duraflue twin wall from the stove fitters warehouse. never seen this before and have no idea about the quality or after care. the supplier for the duraflue seemed confident that the quality is on pat with other makes but then again he is trying to sell it. seems a genuine guy tho. any opinions or even better someone that has dealt with either of these would be fantastic. I don't mind spending the extra on a better make so long as the price reflects the quality and longativity. thanks again Tom
  18. good evening all. another wood burner thread I'm afraid but new stoves come out and people's opinions change so all ways good to ask. decided as we sell logs it makes sense to burn them ourselves so have had someone come and look at putting a wood burner in for us. the installer said we need to be looking for something 5kw ish. it will be to go in our living room free standing on a slate hearth.budget is max 1k. looking at a morso badger and a burley Hollywell at the moment but would verry much appreciate any recommendations or opinions on the above. thanks in advance. Tomm
  19. doesn't look like wholesale prices to me.
  20. hi all. just wondering how other firewood guys are storing there logs this year. we are currently using ibc cages stacked two high with lids on. just curious as to how others go about it and if you have found any issues with keeping them outside come winter. thanks all
