  1. driving to Bordeaux then over to Toulouse at the end of next week believe it or not!
  2. cheers for the support guys, i'll need it! where abouts are you Mick? i'd take the ram kit if your offering it?
  3. She certainly is a project! and if I had the money i'd buy something around the three or four grand mark, fresh enough not to require any work but old enough not to worry about getting a few scrapes and dents. But here is how things stack up, this is only my second year in business, I had absolutely no funds when I took the plunge and have spent the past couple of years clawing a small landscaping business out of nothing. Always wanted a pickup but couldn't afford one, and though work is going well, I need to keep my capitol for tools and materials, so splashing out on a 4x4 could tie up funds that could be better spent elsewhere. Short story long, I have time, skills, and materials, but what I don't have is bags of money to spend on it. Even if I did have the money to get a tipping body made for her, I couldn't justify paying two grand for something I could fab myself for three or four hundred, and that includes buying a brand new 12v ram kit. Basically I just want a pickup and if I can use it to promote the tree services side of the business then it might even pay for itself.
  4. Well here she is! not exactly mint but perfect for what I want. She has a good engine, gearbox, diff, tyres etc. The local 4x4 breakers wanted £150 for a set of wings and £200 for a rear load tub minus the tailgate. Found a guy a couple of miles up the road that has a couple of older L200's including a breaker with decent bodywork, he wants to keep all the mechanicals but is happy to sell anything else, he offered me the wings for £50, so i'm going to offer him £250 if he'll sell me the wings, bonnet, doors, front bumper and any non mechanical parts. Have a mate who's a car body repairman and wants me to do some landscape work at his house so I'll get him to prep and paint her, and just took down a row of Laburnums for another friend who has his own engineering business, specialises in fabricating farm equipment so plan on putting a semi decent load bed on her while he fabs up a tipping body.
  5. well the owner got back to me and accepted my offer of £200, a mate who's a welder said buy it as the engine is worth £400 alone, think i'll go for it:thumbup1:
  6. at least it missed the merc!
  7. thanks folks, will get a 4mm cable before using it again! lesson learned:thumbup1:
  8. Hey folks I have access to an 240v thor vertical log splitter. Actually a very good little machine when customers want a tree logged on site. Unfortunately the other day it packed up on me, capacitor had gone so I picked up a new one. The supplier advised that using a standard extension lead causes the volts to drop off which caused the capacitor to fail. Unfortunately its the only lead I have that reaches far enough. Would it help if I ran the splitter for say an hour at a time then let it cool while I stack the logs?
  9. I have a few new Oregon chains in the shed but they won't run on the original husky bar on my 560, was told Oregon chain only runs on Oregon bars?
  10. Hey folks i'm thinking of treating myself to a winter project, a 2002 L200 crew cab that's been in field use for a couple of years. Always wanted a pickup and have managed to convince the missus that i'll be able to use it for the tree surgery side of the business, fit her and the kids in, and maybe pimp it up for promotional purposes. I have only spoke to the current owner over the phone and his description was "great engine but rough as a badger" when asked about price he replied "scrap value":confused1: Now the friend of mine who put me in contact with the seller says its rough but a very reliable machine that drives much better than it looks, it sound perfect for what I want, but if anyone has owned an L200 from that era what should I look out for, mainly where do they rust? Much appreciated.
  11. Had to strip it down to get the damaged piston and barrel out, more awkward than I thought but done now, it should be a handy little saw to keep in the van, my 136 I got off the bay for £5 was worth its weight in gold for the money it made me.
  12. Just bought a little husky 142 off ebay, complete with compulsory scored barrel and piston, primarily for keeping by the chipper etc. Have a 14" bar on it and am about to order a non oem piston and barrel off the bay. Have been studying a few porting vids and am thinking of giving it a go, if I cock it up its no big loss. Anyway I was going to port the new barrel and an exhaust mod. Would this make any difference to a 142 on a non oem barrel and piston?
  13. was asked to remove three Monterey pines for a customer so subbed in a friend who is a highly experienced climber to help out, the customer asked us to cut some rings slightly bigger to make chairs for his granddaughter's pixie garden:confused1: so i'm back later in the week to chop the rest up for him:thumbdown:
  14. its different so points for originality:thumbup1:
  15. The employer shouldn't get fined because of the stupidity of their employees, you can't look over every employees shoulder every minute of the working day. so say your the employer, some fool takes a rip saw blade and sticks it into a cut off saw and then sticks the whole lot through his leg so he could get the job done quicker, and you miles away in your office get the blame? I did my abrasive wheel training and the training is perfectly clear, you don't use a saw if you don't have the relevant ticket, if you have the relevant ticket you must follow the manufacturers instructions. simple as. Problem isn't the boss, or even the tw*t that injured himself, its our claim culture. You can sue for anything these days.
  16. has anyone got an 18" Oregon bar they would sell? I have a couple of 72DL Oregon chains that are a tad too tight for the husky bar.
  17. I have a few older saws with perished rubber on the handles, i'm also thinking of making a full wrap handle for the 560, does anyone know where to get suitable hardwearing rubber or foam?
  18. thanks guys, i'll start putting it out for a few hours in the evening, how long does it take to acclimatise to permanent outdoor living?
  19. Hey folks, I have tried to grow Japanese Maple on a number of occasions and every time they get wind burned within a few days of putting them outside. I have had a small sapling indoors for about two years and it wasn't doing very well so I thought i'd give it a breath of fresh air moved it outside to a shady sheltered corner of the garden. Within a few days it had produced more new leaves than in two years of indoor living, but a few days later all the leaves were starting to dry out and burn at the tips, most have now lost their colour and are dying, any ideas?
  20. been strimming today, so not only trousers, but scarpa boots, helmet, ear defenders, visor, and a bushcutter jacket as there's so much hogweed about. Ten hours marinating in my own sweat
  21. thanks for the advice guys, I managed to pick up a monkey winch for free, bit big and heavy but will do the job nicely!
  22. thanks for the advice guys, the wall is dashed so wire brush and elbow grease it is then:thumbdown:
  23. that just looks like a bog standard long tail shovel.
  24. to be honest it hasn't been growing for more than a few years, the thickest stems are only an inch diameter, but there's miles of scrawny little shoots, so i'll just have to keep picking it off with a screwdriver:thumbdown:
  25. I'd be interested in one too, what cc is the saw and what bar lengths are available? I was looking for an older stihl or husky around 100cc to do some hobby milling, but even old saws are fetching stupid money, was bidding on a 395xp on ebay there but gave up when I was out bid at £322 on a saw that hasn't been run for a few years, has no bar or chain, and five days still to go until auction ends.
