  1. strange, many people reckon its a waste of time and resources, its definitely something I enjoy and if it kept my business ticking over during the winter i'd be happy to invest in it!
  2. for your budget would you not consider buying an old 100+ cc saw and a cheap Alaskan mill/ladders job? I have an old 070 i'm planning on using for a bit of hobby milling.
  3. it would suit my needs too but not my wallet!
  4. Volkswagen Amarok 2.0, the merc looks nice but its just another Chelsea tractor for accountants, closest it will ever get to 'off-road' is when its parked on the footpath:confused1: would you buy one and stick a tipping back end on it? pointless
  5. CO detector on the mantle above the fire, in the hall, and one in the kitchen, an old scouring pad and some white vinegar cleans the glass, but I don't even try to keep the stove lit all night anymore.
  6. I have a small Stanley stove (small livingroom), I cut my own logs about 6" long which doesn't bother me, but what I over looked and maybe others that buy smaller stoves over look too, is that I can't get enough wood into it to burn all night. Even with the vent closed to almost suffocating point it's still out every morning, and the glass is caked in tar because there is not enough draw with the vent almost closed. In my opinion small stoves are a waste of money, in time i'll be replacing mine with something bigger, so I can have a small fire when i'm in the room and then throw a few big logs on and close the vent when going to bed.
  7. interesting food for thought aspenarb. Well the guy who offered to sell me parts of his spare L200 has finally agreed to sell the whole thing, its a 2002 4life with a cooked engine. Before starting to pull the engines out and swop them over I was going to have a go at fixing the cooked engine. I was thinking of taking the head and provided the bores are good, having it skimmed and a new gasket fitted, then pressure tested. What other damage should I check for?
  8. sounds like a lady razor to me, is it pink:confused1:
  9. sound advice, much appreciated, will give the saws a flush out in the morning.
  10. I was on my way to a job yesterday when I realised I had run out of chain oil, twenty miles to the nearest supplier so stopped at Tesco and bought a couple of litres of rapeseed oil, worked a treat, can it be used permanently or will long term use damage/clog the oiler system?
  11. hey buddy all good here, hope you are doing well? yeah the 560 is still earning its keep nicely. everything depends on me getting a bigger yard too.
  12. much appreciated spud, will give it another go tomorrow
  13. has anyone a decent diagram for an 070? Got one in a box and ordered up a new piston, gasket set, fuel pipes and filter, seals etc but am having a bit of trouble assembling the bottom end, seems there may be a few smalls missing, odd screw and washer/spacer. I have an exploded view diagram but its not very clear, I need to know the order everything slides onto the flywheel side of the crank and how the flywheel, points, etc fit together. building a jigsaw without the picture isn't easy, any help would be great
  14. think i'll give the Pfanner Nexus safety glasses a try.
  15. tried a few mattresses, no luck.
  16. yeah the foam ear plugs would work, but when i'm working with other people like today (doing traffic duty for two guys topped some over hanging ash) it would be a pain taking off my gloves, removing plugs, communicating, re-fitting plugs, putting gloves back on every time someone wants to communicate
  17. hey folks managed to get a bit of chip in my eye today (was wearing a helmet/visor), happens every time I pick up a saw or hedge cutter. Happy to wear safety glasses under my visor but the pressure of the ear defenders against the legs causes discomfort after an hour or two. Has anyone a solution?
  18. I suffer from a lot of lower back pain, did some reading up on lumber supports, seems they are of no use, Two things will help though, some basic back exercises and good sleeping position, first off don't sleep on your back, if I fall into a heavy sleep and roll onto my back i'm buggered until about 11.00am, if I sleep on my side then i'm only sore for half an hour after waking. Do some basic back exercises in the morning and you'll be ready for anything the day throws at you, plenty of info online about back exercises for working men (still looks like yoga for slobs though)
  19. Hebridean Homes Longhouse LH202 3 bedrooms open plan living vaulted ceiling design classic square metre value Simple form Frontage: 17m Width: 5.7m 131m2 internal floor area Timber Kit Package Price from £ 42,900.00 SIP Kit Package Price from £ 51,400.00
  20. No I much appreciate the input codlasher, I do hope to build my own timber framed house some day, and it seems daft to make part of my living from felling trees and then pay a fortune for a timber frame kit, unfortunately there aren't many saw mills around here and the few there are charge crazy prices, also being in Northern Ireland the price of having a kit home delivered goes through the roof, Irish Sea the dearest piece of water to cross!
  21. biscuit tin full of oak.... after an hour and a half...
  22. I'm not talking about buying and milling all the timber for a timber framed house to a schedule, but simply milling up what comes along as a by product of my tree work, and possibly buying in a load to mill as and when work is quiet.
  23. nice, will be trying it this evening
  24. This kit is about £85,000+ supplied and fitted. LH302P - with rear extension
