  1. Hi how is the winch performing? i'm thinking of mounting a similar winch on the back of a pickup for light to medium work.
  2. I'll have a look at the coil tomorrow, I don't have a compression tester but it feels good on the pull.
  3. I bought it as a non runner, got the carb sonic cleaned but wouldn't run, piston wasn't the worst but fitted the new one and barrel, still won't run:confused1:
  4. i'll see what the local 4x4 breakers have. Just a curiosa but is it possible to get some sort of valve that allows you to run two rams separately off the one pump? Just asking as I might build my own towable hydraulic log splitter some day and was wondering if I plumbed in a hydraulic hose running from the tipping gear to the back of the L200, I could then connect up the splitter and run it off the pickup?

  6. just fitted a new pot and piston to my Makita DPC6400 and can't get it to start, not even a splutter. it has good spark and a refurbed card, but even when I put petrol straight into the bore it still won't even fire. Can you mess up the timing on a 2 stroke, and how do you re-set it?

  8. Thanks for the support folks, not sure if brave is the word, daft maybe! There isn't much to them chassis wise, and the L200 seems to have a lighter chassis than most pickups. The rails are going to be coated inside and out with Kurust then waste oil, then encased in new 3mm metal (4mm is a bit ott), she'll need heavier springs and shocks in the rear so that's an interesting point with the transit leafs.

  10. I did an evening course at the local tech, brazing, stick, mig, and tig. For yourself a good 180 to 250 mig with a euro torch will do, I found mig the easiest and most forgiving until I got more experience. Better with at least a few hours tuition, but even if you just get some scraps of steel at different thicknesses and play about with your power and speed settings until you get that nice sizzling sound and good penetration.
  11. Hey folks have decided to create a thread to document the L200 build. You don't get much of a 4x4 for £200. There was a hole in the tank which meant draining and cleaning out the whole fuel system as it was polluted by congealed diesel. Will flush and repair the tank and fit a new fuel line as the old one looked knackered. That's mostly fifteen years of muck and grime on the tank. The chassis is really good up to the rear section which is pretty rotten now the tub is off. The top and bottom of the chassis rails are solid but the sides are shot, as is the spare wheel cross member, tub mounts, one rear spring hanger, and diesel tank rear hanger. Sounds bad but much of what's rotten will be removed anyway to make way for new cross members that will support the ram, pump, rear winch etc. Made a template for the sides of the chassis rails, will use 4mm plate to make the first one then after a trial fit i'll get a local firm to plasma cut the other three. I'd like a 4" suspension lift so am toying with making the new rear hangers 2" longer and once fitted with high walled all terrain tyres, should give me a nice stance. That's the plan, just need to weld up some extra bracing to hold the rails in place while the works going on.
  12. can't comment on the newest model but never had much trouble with the older ones other than rust which was as big a problem for the sprinters of the same age.
  13. Guy I know bought a mint low mile 2012 sprinter, not sure what engine. Paid another grand getting flashy graphics, the engine s**t the bed a week later. Another local guy bought a fairly new grafter and it broke his heart too. The Germans are capable of making crap like anyone else, they just charge more:001_tt2: as for the Iveco, I occasionally drive a fairly modern one (when its not in limp mode), don't like the way the steering column butts up against the pedals. That's just my two cents worth, no relevance to the latest Iveco but just thought i'd share my opinion.

Much appreciated Greatdane I will refit the injectors to the pipes tomorrow and see if they still work, I found a hole in the top of the diesel tank right between the cab and rear bed, there was a tiny dent which allowed enough water to gather to form a hole, i'm hoping this happened while she was parked up so she didn't run on the polluted diesel, there was no sign of corrosion on the injectors either, very clean considering the age, which makes me think the previous owner was telling the truth when he said it was running when parked up. Failing that I can get a good used pump for £100 from the guy I got the replacement injectors off.
  15. tipped a bottle of red line into a 5l can of diesel and started pumping that through her, think that helped as what's coming out the injector pipes is almost clean diesel, i'll fill the can with straight diesel and run some of that through it to flush out the red line. ordered some copper injector seals so when they arrive i'll stick the injectors back in and see if she starts. Now the rear tub is removed I can see a hole in the top of the tank right below the gap between the cab and rear tub, rest of the tank looks good, just this one bit where dirt was lying and holding moisture against the tank. tank needs to come out anyway so i'll get it blasted and if the rest of its good then i'll flush it out and braise the hole.
  16. if I tipped a full bottle of this redex85 into a can with a couple of litres of clean diesel and pumped that through her would it speed up the de-skanking process?
  17. hey folks going to fab a tipping rear body for my L200 over the winter. Already have a ram and pump courtesy of Mick Dempsey (much appreciated Mick). Removed the rear tub (as it was rotten) to access the state of the chassis and as expected there is a bit of welding to do. Thankfully most of whats rotten is going to be removed anyway, tub mounts, rear crossmember (replaced and relocated further back). So I just need to make new rear spring hangers and I'll make a new rear diesel tank bracket as its pretty bad too. Other than the front corner bumper mounts the rest of the chassis is great, even the floor of the cab is like new. Anyway it'll leave me with a blank canvas to work with, basically just the bare chassis rails so if anyone could post up a pic or two of their tipper setups (body up) so I can see layout options etc. that would be much appreciated.

  19. thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately towing it is out of the question as its parked up the lane and wouldn't get it back up the hill if it didn't start. I'll buy some redline today when i'm out getting another can of diesel. spent a bit of time cranking it over yesterday and although still creamy looking, whats coming out of the injector pipes now smells like diesel and ignites. Managed to pick up a set of good injectors from a guy a mile up the road, he has a good pump which I can have for £100 if I need it, so that's some good news.
  20. Hey folks went and picked up the L200 the other day which had been sat up for seven months according to the seller. Cranked it over for ages but couldn't get it to start. Got it home and pulled the fuel filter off and emptied it into a clear bottle. The diesel had separated into three layers, bottom layer remotely resembled something oil based, a thick layer of curdled milk, and a layer dirty water. Removed the injector pipes and they were full of the same thick creamy gunk, removed the injectors themselves and even they were clogged with it. I disconnected the fuel lines running from the tank to the filter, filter to pump, and pump to injectors, blew them out and re fitted them along with a new diesel filter. I put the main fuel line from the tank to the filter into a 5L tetra can full of fresh diesel and started cranking the engine over with the injectors disconnected from the pipes. Did this in ten second bursts for about half an hour so as not to burn out the starter motor. Thankfully the fuel pump still works as each pipe fired in sequence. Initially what came out of the injector pipes was the same thick creamy gunk but after a while it thinned and started to smell like diesel. However it is still cloudy and i'm just wondering if there is more gunk to be flushed out or does the diesel cloud with oxygenation during its journey to the injectors?

  22. Hey folks I contacted a few accountants at the end of March regarding setting up as a sole trader. Found an accountant that was pretty decent, not too lax and not too strict regarding what can go down as business related overheads. In early April I got an email from him to say I was registered with HMRC (personal tax number or something). Anyway that's the last I heard from him and I don't know a thing about what records to keep, what i'll be taxed on, what I won't be taxed on etc. I keep a diary with a record of what I earn and what I've had to pay out for, materials, tools, fuel etc. I want to create something on the laptop to have a digital copy which I can update every week. How does everyone else keep their records and if digital, what software do you use?

  24. can't help you out but just out of curiosity whats the going rate for a brash dragger with his own tipper and chipper? only ask because in a year or so i'd like to have my own tipper, chipper, L200 tipper, van etc and had thought about subbing out as a brash dragger with all his own kit when I don't have any work for myself.
