  1. Try Rob at MCA Kingston. he supplies all or nets and has a very comprehensive stock of different sizes. Remember that there are so many different sizes that you need to agree the size with your customer first if you have agreed a price, otherwise you are giving some away or not providing what you say you are. Good luck.
  2. I had the same last year when a customer brought it to my attention. I was pretty concerned but after some research it turned out to be fairly common bug that only appears once a year (thought it was slightly earlier by a month), it is short lived and stays in the bark only. If you put something like ash bark beetle onto a search engine, you will get the information you need, and of course the experts on this forum. I never had the logs back or compensated the customer, although I did offer both. Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. We were there yesterday and had a good day. Process into kindling first and then season in the net, much quicker and far less handling. How much are you selling those size nets for? How many do you produce a year. Some say it is not worth processing your own unless you are doing over 20 000. I buy in the same size as you. Good luck. Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Thank you so much. Camping would have been wonderful. Enjoy the show, we had a great time. Daniel
  5. We have clean, dry, straight cut, uniform kindling packed into 4kg nets, ready to go at £1.65 when you buy 250 at a time. This includes delivery up to 25 miles from SY10 9JQ, (Oswestry), further by negotiation. Anyone interested?
  6. Just on the off chance that you are at or going to the show, we would be very grateful if you could pass by the Growi stand (location 240-2800. We were there yesterday and very impressed with the Growi 700 saw and want to know if it will cope with 100mm to 200mm round billets up to 2m long. We saw them sawing short billets upto 100mm round or less. Could it cope with multiple logs> I know it is a big ask, but if anyone is passing we would be very grateful for the information. Many thanks.
  7. No waiting for the ram to return. Like all sharp spinning objects they must be treated with respect once you have read and understood the instructions and must not be modified in anyway. Safety is far more important than profitability. Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. We use a Hycrack cone splitter running off an old MS35. We split up to metre long logs for biomass customers. It cost £500 (second hand) and has processed many, many tonnes with no incedent or accident and just sips the diesel. Our employers liability is £1000 per year and is the best money I have ever spent, you cannot afford not to have it!
  9. Hello there. We would be happy to deliver to you. We have seasoned oak and ash available. Check out our website and Facebook page. My name is Daniel Patrick, feel free to give me a call on 01691791571. All the best. Daniel Tanat Valley Firewood Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Glad to discuss cord or firewood logs in Oswestry. Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. The bigger the reward the bigger the risk. Generally you reap what you sow, so assuming you are hardworking and talented then it is likely to work for you. You will have cash flow problems as a growing business, we all do, but if you have good people around you then there is a chance you will succeed. Realisation of dreams is about sacrifice, hard work is a given. Good luck. Daniel Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. If you are selling firewood (you don't say what line you are in), the VAT on heating fuel is only 5%, which you off set by claiming the full 20 % back on the VAT that you have paid out. I am with Santander, just finished the free twelve months. My firewood customers pay by bank transfer and I get updates on my phone. The cost is £7.50 a month which is well worth it for me. Good luck. Daniel Sent from my D2303 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Sounds similar to our situation, where we added a large extension to an old house. We opted for a Stovax Stockton 16HB and paid extra for a thermostat. The stove gives 15kw to the water and 7 to the room. We run around This is a very complicated arrangement if you are going to use an additional heat source, such as solar thermal/oil/immersion. We had a thermal store made with four coils which works beautifully. We also have a radiator in the log burning room, this is very useful for when the fire is not lit. Previous comments around insulation are critical. The burner was £2000, tank £1500 and support plumbing doubled that at least. It was a lot, but worth every penny. Glad to talk through my experience if you send me your number by personal message.
  14. I have had a Logmaster 4 tonne splitter for about 10 years. At first it was ridiculed by my neighbour who knew all about log splitting, but then borrowed it once he saw how efficient it was. It cost £400 back in the day, although I think that they are around £200 these days. I also have a Fiskars X27, but the control and accuracy of the Logmaster cutting at 20 inch is great. You are welcome to come and try them both if you are in the area. By the way, I came across a 75 year old retired vicar who processed all his logs with the same type of electric splitter where an axe would have been too much for him. All the best.
  15. I agree with the Hycrack, mine splits four foot lengths easily and then just put it through a saw bench. Careful what you wish for! Good luck.
  16. I have just finished burned about ten tonne of it and have enjoyed burning it very much. Once bone dry I found that it did not spit and gave a hot flame with little ash. As ever, good to mix it with other wood, I found mixing it with oak worked well.
  17. Many thanks for that. This would open up my options. I will talk to the local tractor dealer to see if they have the connections. Daniel
  18. I have a Hycrack which I bought to use on the MS 35 as it only has a flow and no return. It is a fantastic machine, and whilst I have nothing to compare it against, my perception is that it is quicker as you don't have to wait for the ram to return. Does anyone have experience using a flow and return with a Massey 35?
  19. I have ash one end of the shed and oak at the other, both are around 15% and I instinctively go for the ash. The my oak does not give out as much heat or last as long as the ash.
  20. Many thanks for your comments, just looking at Woodlots now. Daniel
  21. Almost out of my hardwood stocks and am looking to get more laid down for next year. Does anyone know where I could buy hardwood cord in the north Powys/Shropshire area? Many thanks for any suggestions.
  22. Thanks Timbernut, I am comparing prices of whole sellers, with the idea of decanting it into smaller bags. I would prefer to deal with the charcoal burners rather than the importers, so if you are burning your own I would be keen to discuss. In the mean time, where do you get the spud bags from?
  23. Done that, hope you find the results useful. I have a small start up firewood business and am looking to extend my product range to include summer fuel, practically charcoal. Do you know of a bulk supplier so I can pack my own bags? Daniel
  24. Hi John I would like to be in the group, how do I join? Daniel
  25. Last year we fitted a Stovax Stockton 16. It heats our large, isolated farm house and does all the hot water as well. We run it into one of the four coils in the thermal store. The plumbing was expensive as we plumbed in the oil boiler into another coil. We use an immersion in the third coil and have not yet fitted a solar thermal system to the fourth coil. We are fully renovated and it keeps the place very cosy. The output is 15kw into the water and 7 into the room. We have not bought any oil since. You will need a serious amount of well seasoned logs, soft or hard wood. Good luck
