  1. Last year we fitted a Stovax Stockton 16. It heats our large, isolated farm house and does all the hot water as well. We run it into one of the four coils in the thermal store. The plumbing was expensive as we plumbed in the oil boiler into another coil. We use an immersion in the third coil and have not yet fitted a solar thermal system to the fourth coil. We are fully renovated and it keeps the place very cosy. The output is 15kw into the water and 7 into the room. We have not bout any oil since. You will need a serious amount of well seasoned logs, soft or hard wood. Good luck
  2. I've just handed in my notice at work where I am a senior manager with a large transport company, so that I can process and sell firewood. Your business will take time to build up and you may need some regular income in the mean time. I aim to work with Aldi on the shop floor to keep the wolf from the door. You need to pursue your dreams, whilst providing for you and your family. Hire equipment for particular jobs. Good luck.
  3. Well done on the installation Mike. We went for a Stovax Stockton 16 in the house and plumbed in a thermal store. We run our whole (large isolated farm) house on it. I estimate to use 15 to 20 tonnes a year of seasoned hardwood, although we find bone dry soft wood heats the water real hot, real quick. Your boiler will be more efficient than the stove and therefore use less fuel. We bit the bullet and tripled our log shed size to accommodate three years worth of burning. Good luck with the supply, try your local saw mills.
  4. We too have four acres, much of which is sloping. We find that four legged friends are great at keeping most of it down. I mow and strimm around the house. This is our first year trialling wild flower, so far so good, worth the preparation and then low maintenance. Good luck.
  5. Hi Bob. Good luck with the soft wood, sounds like you are finding your market. I may be interested in the Japa if you decide to upgrade. I pass it most days on my way to work.
