  1. I'm looking a new one too but I'm thinking 300 series as I believe these have grease points and are 2 mix not 4 mix which I don't want. But the have the anti vibe that I want.
  2. I talking personal experience not what the papers say!! I had 1 lad last 1/2 a morning before he decided strimming is too much hard work!!
  3. If that works for you it's great I wish my customers were like that. But then I do garden maintenance so for me to say sometime in the next month is too long most of the time! One off jobs get told sometime next month or something like that!! I see your point
  4. That's ok but what happens when you have work booked in for yourself and for whatever reason your not done working for your dad?
  5. Door step sales rules I believe that you have to give 14 day cooling off period. To stop rogue traders.
  6. Will your dad not allow you to tier down your commitment at your "day" job as you increase your "private " work? As in go to a 4 day week then a 3 day week ....... Until you can manage full time on your own?
  7. Thanks it's just appeared on the edge of a conservation area that has just been cut back for winter.
  8. Anyone got any idea what this is please? Many thanks in advance
  9. You sound like one of the good young lads same can't be said for all in my experience
  10. Me too still not sure if it's a wind up though😀
  11. Not something I would do but it works for some I'm sure If you do that make sure you are looking smart !!
  12. Depends what you are doing? You need to cover all costs plus wages and some profit or you might as well stay working with your dad
  13. Might have been a good price but you need the money for what you will use now! A website for example. You buying that mower is like me buying a chipper for the 1 time a year it might prove useful!
  14. I tried that but strangely when I asked my dad for advice after struggling for 2 years business has gone in the right Direction. If you keep going as you are you will learn the hard way and maybe that's what you need to do to prove things to him. A question for you. Why have you bought the jd ride on if you have no business for it? You need to fill your time first. Then pick and choose which direction to take.
  15. Your dad is a free source of business acumen (assuming he is successful:-) You would be a fool to not use his knowledge! Independence is good but a successful business is better!
  16. Paying your help half the money! Has he paid for the kit you use and all other overheads? The business needs to pay for itself as well as the staff. You need to have a sit down with your dad about business! Who is going to replace kit when its knackered ?
  17. That's daft!! It's your kit making the money.
  18. I think we all want to make good money!! It's finding it that's hard !! I would try and get website done over the winter ready to go by end of Feb. As someone said word of mouth is better than any paid advert. Do get a local web designer to do website as you can then meet then in person to go through what you want not by email or on the phone.
  19. Yeah contract grass cutting tight margins really when mowers are so expensive!!
  20. I'm not being negative! But you state that you employ climbers and arborists yet then state that you work for your dad it did not seem to add up. As for costs these big mowers are huge money but they cut grass fast and leave a better finish than rotary mowers do. That johndeere you have looks like a nice piece of kit. But I would not be quick enough for me. With all that kit how come your not out there full time already ? Website does not need to cost the earth.
  21. Ok 2 7ft triple cylinder mowers take a guess? There's 6 k in trailers. Pickup truck to move these trailer with 1 tonne mowers sat on them. Plus varying other mowers 7 I think. 2 Hondas, 2 big cylinder walk behinds, mulcher mower flail mower . 3 Big strimmers. The money is in the big mowers trailers and pickup
  22. All I need to run my business!! I don't really understand the question!
  23. That's true but that's also where you get the big bills and hassle and responsibility of finding the work which is not easy as per your original question. Even for my gardening/ grass cutting contracting business I've put in over £50 k.
