  1. I tried that but strangely when I asked my dad for advice after struggling for 2 years business has gone in the right Direction. If you keep going as you are you will learn the hard way and maybe that's what you need to do to prove things to him. A question for you. Why have you bought the jd ride on if you have no business for it? You need to fill your time first. Then pick and choose which direction to take.
  2. Your dad is a free source of business acumen (assuming he is successful:-) You would be a fool to not use his knowledge! Independence is good but a successful business is better!
  3. Paying your help half the money! Has he paid for the kit you use and all other overheads? The business needs to pay for itself as well as the staff. You need to have a sit down with your dad about business! Who is going to replace kit when its knackered ?
  4. That's daft!! It's your kit making the money.
  5. I think we all want to make good money!! It's finding it that's hard !! I would try and get website done over the winter ready to go by end of Feb. As someone said word of mouth is better than any paid advert. Do get a local web designer to do website as you can then meet then in person to go through what you want not by email or on the phone.
  6. Yeah contract grass cutting tight margins really when mowers are so expensive!!
  7. I'm not being negative! But you state that you employ climbers and arborists yet then state that you work for your dad it did not seem to add up. As for costs these big mowers are huge money but they cut grass fast and leave a better finish than rotary mowers do. That johndeere you have looks like a nice piece of kit. But I would not be quick enough for me. With all that kit how come your not out there full time already ? Website does not need to cost the earth.
  8. Ok 2 7ft triple cylinder mowers take a guess? There's 6 k in trailers. Pickup truck to move these trailer with 1 tonne mowers sat on them. Plus varying other mowers 7 I think. 2 Hondas, 2 big cylinder walk behinds, mulcher mower flail mower . 3 Big strimmers. The money is in the big mowers trailers and pickup
  9. All I need to run my business!! I don't really understand the question!
  10. That's true but that's also where you get the big bills and hassle and responsibility of finding the work which is not easy as per your original question. Even for my gardening/ grass cutting contracting business I've put in over £50 k.
  11. Working for someone else when you have spare time
  12. It's taken me 6 1/2 years to get busy and that includes doing next to nothing in Jan and Feb.
  13. How long have you been trading hamdogg?
  14. Try pallet force
  15. I'm confused!
  16. If you employ these people you must have work for them already?
  17. Would this one be any good? [ame]https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00002N801/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1447956334&sr=8-1π=SX200_QL40&keywords=wood+grenade&dpPl=1&dpID=31cZRyr9fKL&ref=plSrch[/ame]
  18. Is that including vat?
  19. Thanks for the tips the thing in the picture look useful. I will get one and try it !
  20. Hi I'm after some advice please. I've got loads of wood to cut and split but it's been drying for months/years so cutting is fine but I'm struggling to split with an axe. Is the anything I could use to help. Just hand tools not worth buying a splitter for unless that's the only way. Thanks all
  21. I'll swop it for a ms170 that needs a new oiler👍
  22. Just chip it down it'll be alright ........... Maybe-
  23. I would not door knock either. Tried leaflets years ago as well did not do much for me! As others have said stop worrying about what others make. It may be true that they make big money it may not be true. But whatever they make is irrelevant it's what you make that counts!! Keep going as someone said work cheap ish to start with as you need to get your name out there. I think you need a full set up to charge top money.
  24. What he said can't be over keen
  25. Thanks I'm not trying to be confrontational either. That's the bad thing about me writing on forums I can come across a bit blunt!! I can see why a van not a Range Rover works better though. 👍
