  1. I actually really like that meaty look, especially with the bark intact. I do agree with the turning green stuff thin though, I like a wonky bowl lol
  2. A bit embarrassing but I don’t own a plane. I’ve sanded a couple of sides not sure if it’s much help. Also got the accurate dimensions and weight. 6010x103x103mm. 3875g
  3. That’d be nice. It’s a decent size piece probably 2’ long
  4. This was found on a house move so I’ve got no info about it. I’d say it’s a similar weight to oak for its size. I know this is a pretty difficult ID but anybody got any ideas
  5. Thanks NFG
  6. Love it, well done. What’s the timber?
  7. I was getting £8 each for sizes from 5 1/2” up to about 7” as I wasn’t making them all identical unless they were for the same person. I expected people to buy single pieces or one of each, but people were asking for families of snowmen. I only turn a bit after work and couldn’t do enough so I think I’ll try them at a tenner next year
  8. I haven’t posted for a while so thought I’d lump a few bits all together that I’ve been doing mainly through December and a bowl today. Comments and criticism welcome Beech fruit bowl for my wife Laburnum goblet and bottle stopper Obligatory snowmen and trees. Couldn’t make enough of these. Obviously need to put the price up haha This lot were a xmas gift Ash rolling pin was a request And this is the catalpa bowl from today. I think I need to sand it more though, there’s some chatter marks from the final pass. Maybe I went a bit thin Thanks for looking. All the best to everyone for 2018
  9. Hi mate have I left it too late to come today. When’s move day
  10. I reckon the hair dryer would work though, I’ve just never tried it
  11. I’ve got a pretty rubbish draw on my flue. I always build my fire, open a window wide, then I light a piece of paper rolled up lengthways and shove it up the flue. If the smoke comes back at me I blow hard and that’s normally enough to switch the draught the right way
  12. Nice work. I love opinel knives but I’ve never considered making my own handle
  13. Have you priced up your bowl blanks that you aren’t keeping Steve
  14. That is incredible. What an accomplishment to make something like that completely from scratch. What an amazing set of skills
  15. Thanks very much. The guy actually asked for something as dark as possible but I managed to sell him this haha. Told him the contrast would make it stand out [emoji16]
  16. I couldn’t post the pictures off the iPad It’s around 14” diameter from memory. Some nice spalting as well I really liked the bowl and it was our fruit bowl for a few months but the boss decided it was too big. If it wasn’t for the worm I’d have asked for more but felt it might be a hard sell
  17. Well after a couple of years of infrequent turning I finally managed to put a price on a product. I advertised some snowmen and Xmas trees and someone inboxed me and asked if my bowls were for sale lol. He wanted a pretty big one so the only one I could offer him was this wormy sycamore and he agreed on £30. Pleased to get the ball rolling on the turning making a bit of a return. Might become a slightly less expensive hobby soon haha
  18. 3x3” ish without putting a tape to it
  19. No problem for lump mate, I’ve got about 3 meters of it. Another guess from Facebook was idigbo. I struggle enough with IDing British stuff. I’m clueless with foreign timbers
  20. That seems like a good guess from the smell. I can’t find any pictures of it’s timber on line to confirm. Only thing is that it only seems to grow in Australia and is considered vulnerable so I wouldn’t expect it to be logged for pallets?
  21. Any guesses what this is. It was salvaged from a pallet of Indian sandstone. Stinks when you cut it, kind of like pickled onions! Hard and heavy. Attractive timber though I think
  22. The guy has replied on Facebook and confirmed they’re in Heighington
  23. I thought it was a bit far afield like
  24. I’ll ask the fella for a phone number if you want?
  25. Probably half the price of logs here in Hampshire. I think that cheap he might just be supplementing his giro!
