  1. The boss decided her fruit bowl was too big so i did this beech bowl to replace it. Finished in Danish
  2. I haven’t tried it myself yet as I’ve been spending on other stuff. It does look a good product on the video but for now I’ve got plenty of sandpaper so it’s lowest priority lol
  3. Well done on the sale steve. I'd say they got a bargain though that's a stunning nest of bowls
  4. Thanks for confirming what I thought. But I told the father in law I'd ask before logged it. I've got no qualms burning free soft wood lol. Hopefully going to get some oak as well so that won't be a bad mix for next year
  5. I dropped a spruce for my father in law and there's a nice straight stick about 5m around 12-10" diameter. Is he likely to be able to get a drink for it as timber or should I just ring it up for logs for myself. Otherwise he'll just burn it in the garden! Thank you
  6. Pretty much my feelings bud. It might not be quite as smooth as a patriot or another top brand but it's cheap as chips with a 5 year guarantee
  7. I've just ordered an XAct chuck for £50. Has anyone got any experience of these. Worth a look if you're after any new kit for the workshops though
  8. Cheers steve. Can it be left in the round if I seal the ends
  9. I'm clearing a garden for my father in law and have cut down a small laburnum. The base has gone soft in the middle but it's sound further up where it's only 3" diameter. What's the best thing to do with it. And what's the smallest diameter people would bother keeping Thanks, Mick
  10. If anyone is unsure what it is give this a watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. If anyone uses this combo, or fancies giving it a try, yandles have got a couple of package deals on at the minute. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I've had another go at it. Reduced the wall thickness a bit and got a better finish off the tool initially. Started with 80 grit and worked through and got a finish I'm reasonably happy with. Also I said from memory that this is beech but looking at it I'm fairly sure it's actually birch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Yeah twig that's how I'm doing it. The finish off the tool seemed ok but as I worked through the grits these became more prominent. I may put it back on the lathe anyway as I'm not sure I like the form. Might reduce the amount of slope on the rim and reduce wall thickness as well
  14. I've turned this bowl today. Spalted beech and I was getting a bit of end grain tearout. I resharpened, upped the speed and took a few light passes to get it to what I felt was as good as i could. Will any amount of sanding get rid of these radial marks. I don't have a reverse facility. I've sanded on the lathe but would I be better off sanding it another way. Thanks for any advice
  15. I think those big numbers look pretty good and I could see those selling. Really good idea
  16. When I buggered up the apple I could have easily spat my dummy and walked out the shed for the day haha. Managed to take a deep breath and think of something else to make instead. Id recently watched a video of someone turning an egg so went with that
  17. Brilliant job on the shield Steve. It must have been a nightmare trying to get everything lined up and symmetrical
  18. You're not wrong steve it can go spectacularly wrong can't it haha. I managed to get the pear this morning from the remainder of the piece as planned though. The timber was actually a knackered looking bit of sleeper that was tipped on my drive with some arisings. I cleaved the edges off and put it between centres as it seemed reasonably sound. Pleased I bothered with it now
  19. Just a practice post really to try the new mobile version. I was just finishing up an apple yesterday and had a massive catch with the skew (Putting a bit of time in on the skew trying to get better with it) so to salvage something from it, it became an egg
  20. Thanks for explaining steve
  21. Not sure how much influence you have with this problem but I can't log into the new site via Tapatalk. Although the mobile version is a lot better than the old version. Good work
  22. If you're in or near Birmingham this Record Power grinder hasn't had a bid on eBay. Not mine by the way I'm only sharing as I thought someone here might be interested https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372010725078 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. It can go to within about 10mm but then sometimes the lock is unreliable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
