  1. Than not rehab, bloody predictive text!! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. £500 a day is a fair price for that mate, people who charge less rehab that for 3 men and a chipper and waste away are fools! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. I have in the past done a couple large Ash trees for the wood, I wouldn't do it again but at the time it worked. Nowadays there is so little money in firewood that it's too much hassle. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  4. That was aimed at the guy you replyed to Ian, I quoted the wrong bit. Sorry:) Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. What about insurance, tickets, machine costs etc? its people like this making it harder for people who do make a living from tree work and run a propper firm. It's very rare I will do a tree for the wood as it really isn't worth it as a business. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. I have been reluctant to employ again because of past experiences, it was only yesterday I said I wouldn't employ again but after discussing it with my accountant it's going to be the safest way forward. I've just got to work it all out. Thanks for you input. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. Ha,Ha so true. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. I used to give the the option of splitting the logs, it seemed to me people only saw the final figure. It happened a couple of times I have a quote for everything then you see or hear of the job being done totally opposite to what you quoted. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. That's the problem mate, I don't want to guarantee 5 days a week, I only can guarantee say 3 days a week, due to child care etc I can only operate 8-4. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  10. After reading many threads on here and having a chat with my accountant it looks like I may have to employ someone again. I always said never again but it looks like I won't have a choice, so, how much is the going rate for a 28 year old with 30/31, fair bit of experience, works hard and can be left unsupervised? Currently he is self employed on £70 a day but provides no tools. There have been issues that have come to light over this so that's why I am having to go down this route. 11. You will be lucky David, all the hauliers around here ain't interested cos they are too busy with easy pick up and drop offs. Tree Dave tried to get Askews to move some timber for me and he called six times to no avail. I used to get David Norman but he doesn't call back either, same with Shefields. None of the hauliers in our area seem bothered. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  12. It will be cheaper to take it to the tip if the tip is free, if you are not from tree surgery background then you will possibly have just cut it down, it will need dressing to go through most chippers and if you ain't stacked it butt first someone will have to fight it to put it in the chipper. Not trying to patronise you if you have got it all nicely dressed. I always charge top doller to chip other peoples stuff like that as it's I salt a PITA. Sorry to be negative. Maybe you should have put a pic up. I doubt anyone would want it for less than £150-200. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. Saw boots, saw trousers?? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. Surely you will have to provide his ppe also? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. This subject is a real grey area, I did employ and won't ever again. Ok some say its how you treat staff but I treated them well or what I thought was well. I use self employed lads now under my direction, I.E. I tell them where to go and what needs doing and they do it. I have one guy who helps me 2-4 days a week and by rights he should be employed but what happens when its slow and there is no work? I can't afford to pay him to do nowt. If I employed him I would have to put my rates up and that would push me over the VAT which is another no go for me. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
