  1. Texan bars were awesome, trio's should be brought back too along with tudor crisps.

  3. That seems a bit harsh mate, the lads just after a bit of advice off a website that is aimed at disscusions, advice etc, or thats what i thought it was for.
  4. Yeah im with trust, i have found them very good, i have been with them for 5 yrs. Last year i had to make a claim when a subbie that was working for me decided it would be a good idea to cut through the hing on a big ol douglas fir, it landed on a national park foot bridge, £1500 repair bill, i called trust and they sent a claim form and that was that, they paid up, i did however have to pay the excess of a grand.
  5. I pay £1500 a year for pl and el, i contacted arb insure about it to see if they could beat that and they couldnt do any cheaper, they told me its because i have 3 subbie climbers that i use, they say this increases risk. They also base it on turnover.
  6. when i left school in 1985 i got on a YTS scheme for motor vehicle, i was on 17.50 for the first year, my second year i got 26.50, i had a job and was learning, sure i thought i should have got more but thats life and thats something called being an apprentice. The lads these days want everything now, the lad that works with me is 18, he got 30/31 and medium trees and windblown all paid for by the tax payer, and no experience he has trouble sharpening a saw, doesnt drive, doesnt know how to tidy up properly and thinks he should get paid the same as someone with years of knowledge. and experience. I once got a climber in, he had all the gear and tickets, and it took him 45 mins to set his rope, 30 mins to climb the tree, it was only a 40 ft sycamore, and when asked to branch walk to prune a tip, he replied, "sorry i cant do that" WTF. they give tickets away these days. you gotta keep your head down and do the job the best you can.
  7. Hooray for conneys, i let min season for a couple of years then use it, its great stuff and ive got bloody loads of the stuff lying around.
  8. There will all ways be some one who will do it cheaper. it used to wind me up but now i let em get on with it.

Haix Protector pros, they may not be cheap but they will look after your feet.
  14. I have lots of chip dumps within a 20 mile radius of where i work and i also take it to my yard and store it. Then sell it for £30 a bulk bag.
  15. ford did make a county transit 4x4, i saw a tipper version a couple of years ago on fleabay but it was on for daft money.
  16. Ive got a 130 crew cab mate, climbing gear and butties and lad int back, tools in full length tool box, loads of room, ok a tranny holds more chip, but a landy will go any where and tow anything really. i had a tranny and it was great but i think the landy is better.
  17. i need a dealer in the north i think, or try to get one secondhand, i know they are hard to find though so may just bite the bullet.

I had a thread on here a couple of weeks back about cold feet, well i bought a pair of haix protector pro boots as recommended by fellow arb talkers and they are awesome. Thanks for the advice.
  19. Hello fellow firewood fans, im taking the plunge and buying a processor, and advice as to which model, suppliers etc. i have seen a few comments on the forum about certain companys etc, any info wood be appreciated.
  20. Arbtalk.com is a cracking site. As oil, gas and electric get more expensive people are getting into burning wood and coal, i get a lot of calls of people who : 1. want the fire wood cut, to 8.5 inches, 2% moisture, stacked in there shed at the end of a long drive and down some steps. 2.They also dont want to pay much, as " you get the wood for free off jobs". they usually call when they have none and want it now. dont sell it too cheap and be honest if its wet wood then make sure you tell em..
  21. 4x4 are crap, its a guy who runs it from his house, the quality of the work is awful.
