  2. When ever my mate had to climb like this he moaned he was like a dyslexic spider!
  3. Agree completely, leave it to the individual to decide!
  4. I'm not big on safety, I free climb if it's quicker to do so, I described how we had to climb when we were working for Sse. The op asked about using two ropes, he is a young climber gaining experience and wants to try different methods so I just shared my experience of using two ropes. I rarely use two ropes now and hated being made to, but I think if youngsters can climb quickly an efficiently this way then why nit
  5. Hi rich, when I worked for Sse I had to climb with two separate ropes and an lanyard and I had to have two points of attachment at all times. This was their rule for any tree climbing. It is a proper pain in the ass when climbing a small apple tree or topping a fir hedge but could be quite good in lager trees. I always used a prussik on each rope but a few of the lads use 2 hitch climbers. Use 11mm rope to make everything a bit lighter, and have two different colour ropes so you can keep track of which on is which, take a short lanyard with you. Some trees you will want to climbe with two ropes, but a lot of trees you will find you only need one and a lanyard
  6. A person doesn't need to have a ticket to be a good operator and just because you have a ticket doesn't mean a person is a good operator and legally a contractor does not need PL insurance

  12. I bought a 14 inch ital light bar with 2 chains off eBay for £21 bars I'm pleased with the bar so far the chains lose their edge a bit quicker than Oregon but for the price very good
  13. Not used them but spikes would be better surely?
  14. Lovely and frosty in Hungerford smornin, dry but we are going to London today wats it like there?
  15. Yeah they should be fine as long as the roots haven't been frozen, water them in the bags if dry just before you plant them but don't let them freeze
  16. We have a Vermeer 1200 with a winch it has a top roller with a hydraulic ram which crushes branches on the way in. There is nothing this chipper won't eat. Best chipper I've ever used

  20. Does anyone know if this wood can be used for anything? Or does anyone want it? Thanks will
  21. I suffer cold hands too. Some good ideas here i use the windmilling my arms around one but it hurts like hell if your hands are already numb. Keep Your wrists warm yes, also helps if you don't wear a watch. Nobody mentioned ski gloves? I had a pair of gortex lined ones, they kept my hands toasty and dry all day and lasted a surprisingly long time too, used them a lot in the mewp in the snow a few years back. But whilst climbing nothing beats the exhaust of yer topper!
  22. All trainees should be bought a stihl 170 to start with. Nota great saw but it's ok for what they need. If they need to use a bigger saw then can do under supervision. They can then learn to keep there little saw sharp, mend it when it breaks and no one else will want to use it. Which will prove he blunted it
  23. It's a better looking saw than the others too!
  24. 461 or 372 both good
