  1. Yes you can be employed and self employed at the same time but you will need to do a tax return and include your p60 end of year tax letter, you may even get some tax back if you have to buy equipment! If your going to do it then advertise now, get your name out there. Will the firm you work for now let you work for them as a freelance climber? Chances are they will, ask they can only say no
  2. Any one got an idea of price? What is air dried oak worth per cubic foot?

  6. I want to shift the rest of these mainly oak planks that I had milled up about 6 years ago. It is all air dried, it looks a bit green from being outdoors and most boards are pretty flat. I just have no idea what it is worth or where I should sell it. I haven't got time to drag it all out measure it and restack it or sell individually so should I put it on eBay? I'm worried I won't get a fair price for it. I measured some roughly Oak 9x 8' lengths 6"-12" wide 1"-2" thick 8x 6'x11"x1" 3x 6'x11"x2" 3x 6'x12"x4" 3 small oak lintels 3ft long Also on under the tin with this are some reclaim pine benches from the village hall 12"x1.5" 2x16' lengths 2x 10' lengths a 14' length and a 15' length Thanks will

  17. Need some advice. Where can I get a new or like new used door for a vw caddy van on a 61 plate? I've only had it a week and tonight after taking my boy swimming we parked up to get some chips. When I pulled out of the space I didn't see the tree in the dark and turned into it, crunching the door, mirror and window. Can I buy a new door from the vw garage and how much might it be Thanks will
  18. I'm 33 and climb most days hope to keep climbing full time till I'm at least 40, and hopefully many years past that.
  19. Ah thanks, I just looked it up its a columnar tree with golden yellow foliage. Learn somthin' new everyday!
  20. I have a jonsered that does this, I hope it's not the coil as I can't get another, so I'm trying other things first, impulse line- when it gets warms could make the rubber pipe soft giving less vacuum in the carb, fuel tank breather, changed it to a new one but that leaks fuel( cheap Chinese I think) into the air filter witch slowly floods the engine? Sorted that prob did a hole tank of fuel and seemed better but then pull cord broke. I'll try and remember to take it tommorow and try it again. If not I think it's the coil.
  21. Never heard of a gold crest tree sorry! Is it a conifer? If so the lower branches can die naturally as the tree grows. Removing them on one side only normally doesn't make the branches on the other side die. Look at all the one sided trees near power lines! TBH this is guess work as we need pictures to see what is happening Thanks will heal
  22. Good way to photo them, photos like these will start turning up on your ' tis the season ' thread David!
  23. Eggs has got a point. If you try and start a tree business without experience you won't get far even with a great amount of enthusiasm as we can all see you've got. My suggestion is if you can get a job or hire yourself out brash dragging for a tree surgeon then you will learn a lot by doing that. Get your tickets, and if you get your own work in the meantime that's a bonus.
  24. Don't buy timber pro rubbish, when it breaks down, and that won't take long you won't be able to get bits for it. Best cheap saw for starting out would be a stihl 170 with a 14 inch bar. You can use it on the ground and when I started climbing I used to use mine in the tree instead of a topper. At least it makes you use two hands on the saw and makes you think about your cuts more.
  25. Forget the ryobi and break out the stihl! Sorry, I would pop in but working in Basingstoke for the next six weeks solid so nowhere near, good luck with getting it going. Did anyone say check the fuel lines change the filter and clean the little tiny gauze in the carb?
