  1. I know it'll be difficult and expensive for the customer but that's the way they want it done. I have given them the options and they want it done the way they've asked. The site is around a house plot so any equipment has to come up the driveway. I don't have a harvester or forwarder in the shed so have to use the kit I have. I cannot put a vehicle into the wood so any plan that involves that is out. I'm not as green to not realise the trees will be tricky to extract. The damaging the remaining stems concerns me though.
  2. That was just standard. That's the highest I can lift while still keeping the PTO shaft in.
  3. 5 weeks later... cab welded and resprayed, transmission leaks fixed, log grab fitted, 3 point linkage fitted and piped, tipping ram fitted, new lights, beacons, stereos, refurbed fuel tank and lines, new air system, new exhaust. If anyone needs a MOG engineer I can highly recommend two cracking boys that did this work.
  4. This is the result, a fine and tidy job
  5. That's what I thought, plus it's something different to the norm. Yeah I think like a plans in theory
  6. My plan was to run the winch rope to the end of the row pick up the first one then collect the rest as I winch in down the line. Picking up 20 by the end.
  7. What set up are you using to winch that out Matty ? Also what weight and length of log ?
  8. Cheers My thought was 4 rows 24t a day stacked roadside.
  9. There is no next contractor, it isn't a commercial venture. Relax man it's only work! The method and means are not important, I've got that. Only wanted to know if people will buy little sticks if I stack them up roadside.
  10. Down the gap between the trees, That's a good point much more helpful
  11. The trees in the woodland aren't all the same size, I'm selectively taking out the smaller lesser ones and leaving the better ones. Surely this way lessens the chance of windthrow. Plus not touching the edgers It's their wood they want it done that way and their willing to pay, I've got the gear to do it this way, there's no access for harvesters/forwarders.
  12. There not looking for wide rides put into their wood want it looking natural but with the ability to walk in amongst it. Don't worry mate I'm one of those guys that'll try a job and learn that way done it my whole career and it's got me pretty far.
  13. I'm getting paid for the days that the work takes so no need to worry there. Just trying to find out if I recoup something back for the customer
  14. Flat Will use the MOG to winch down the lines then load the timber trailer with mog hiab and grab
  15. I'm an arborist never done forestry, best way to learn is do it.
  16. I measured a fifth of the site 29 rows 50 trees /row 1450 trees 45% removed 8-10inch dia 0.3 t per tree
  17. What's a rack ? Never been thinned Majority is clean and straight
  18. It's a late one private owner that doesn't want to clear fell ever. Not real twisted and I'm up north Scotland, I can get it roadside no real trouble with that.
  19. I have a 10 acre Sitka plantation to selective thin, all 8-10 inch dia. Will be a good 500t Is there a value or a market for this? Firewood?biomass ? Cheers
  20. Big hoore of stump to grind out, filled with stones.
