  1. Does any body have a tell number for someone that undertakes tree carving in or around Derby area? I have potentially a job in the Derby area.
  2. I am sure there are some good stores out there but I’ve use D.S Bennett from Tavistock chain saws in Devon, he has a lot of Stihl parts in stock if not he’ll get them PDQ, and get them posted out quickly. And they have a work shop there to for the tricky stuff you cant do your self. His chain are ok price wise give him a go folks
  3. Ive never been offered a chain saw but I did pick up a double doored multi fuel stove they used out side as a patio heater, they asked me to "chuck it out side for the tat man" which we did ...strait onto the pick up, up my mates got it shot blasted and new glass and rope seal, banged it on ebay £400 that did me nice !!
  4. Dan thank for the reply, what saw mill have you got? a woodmizer? as for the tree its on the out skirts of Derby
  5. I’ve been asked to quote to fell a 90 foot cedar, that's not the problem, here is a few question for members that I could do with a little help from 1: does any one have a planking mill to cut and plank this 40" dia beast up with? 2: Is it only fit for fire wood? 3: if it was cut up is it ok for farm fencing (out side use in fields)? Will it last? 4: would any saw mill buy it of me? I can get a lorry in to move the large butts. Any thought or suggestions would be appreciated.
  6. H_A totaly agree with you I ve had the Makita LI ON gear for 7 years now and its fab the batteries have let me down this year but after the hammer that they have had, so what ! just buy some more I know they will last another 5-7 years if you look after them
  7. here a close call at a local school on Wednesdayhttp://crackwillow
  8. don't forget when you are cutting bigger or tough timber, there will be a lot more stress and strain on the rivits and side plates, I have found in the past the a light weight chain will fall apart quickly due to the extra ware, move up to a bigger and stronger chain, the last thing you or your staff want a chain wrapped around there legs when it fails
  9. Ive copied this from the German Ebay listing I don't rate Stihl any more due to the carbs are made in China and ive had stacks of problems with them, so Iam changing all of my gear over the Makita, type in this ... Makita Benzin-Kettensäge DCS4301-38 38 cm . at about £284 its £159 cheaper than the UK !! give it a thought and let me know!! its about the equivelant 024 stihl the vibration levels are far better as they use double damperning system , IE rubber and spring...far better
  10. I think that pulling 3.5t on a 110 landi is illegal, why? If I remember rightly you can only pull up to 90% of vehicles weight IE if your landi weighs 2 tonnes, 90% is 1.8 tonnes is the max you should be towing, what the plated weight says is not the law of the land, only what its capable of. Be carful VOSA guys don’t have a sense of humour.
  11. Have you got terms and conditions on you invoices? If not you could have problems getting your money because YOU have not stipulated when you need paying by. If it’s a big company they should have agreed to your terms and conditions before you starting the work, a friend of mine undertook some work for a large house building co, the agreement was to landscape..say 25 houses, he’s done 19 but they wont pay him so he’s talked to a solicitor and its legal what they have done because the agreement was to landscape 25 houses he’s technically NOT finished just because they have stopped building houses that irrelevant, so he will get paid when the landscaping is finished (this could be years before he sees his money .
  12. I have had a TPO forms filed with the local council, normally they take about 8 weeks from start to finish but due to cutbacks and staff going off sick and nobody calling me back and so on, after 3 months they STILL have not sent any one out to survey the trees in question, my question is can you TELL the council to hurry up by setting then a deadline to work to and if they don't respond by getting the paper work completed within a reasonable time, do you have a legal right to carries on regardless?? I would like to hear from any one who has encounter these problems and do they/you have a good answer, thanks Brian
  13. sound like you could be chucking good money after bad, the last time I looked at a two cylinder engine 25 bhp was well over £1600 could you move up to used enteck??
  14. what timber is it and do you know if the timer is clean ie no nails?
  15. Lyncombe-climber can you explain to me why you don't need a tacho in this case

  18. you can get your silky stuff direct from silky.jp its half the price in Japan !! look at there catalogue it has al of the part numbers Iam sure they sell the plastic scabbard, if not buy a new one !!
  19. Iam sure that merc do a printer van that's 4X4 iam not sure if they do a chasie cab go and ask at your merc garage, it may be a special order, if your going to get a pick up never go for a front wheel drive they are rubbish when the weight is on the back as it lifts the front wheels up so there is less traction ...Derby city council bought a load of vans like this to save money but they get stuck every day!! I know this as I know guys in the tree gang and garden dept
  20. £60 a day for general labour is ok, but since your going to pay for his tickets and PPE that's quite fair, people want big bucks for doing fork all, it don't work that way unless your a robbing solicitor!!
  21. just to remind you that if your pickup and trailer and goods exceeds 3.5 tonnes youl need a tacho because your running it commercially. and you could be over weight and lead to a fine if your pulled by VOSA
