  1. I started the thread "90 days to pay..", but its gone off thread a bit !, anyway, i got the job, we just have to now thrash out the finer points. I've quoted to bring the grounds up to spec, & then a monthly maintanence charge per hour over the winter, which will be reviewed with the onset of spring. I will need some new eqipment, i'm happy with 2nd hand, but would appreciate some advice. First off a better/larger mower, with 21" cut, i have a 18" already, a leaf blower, i don't have one, & a strimmer as i only have a small one. Thanks for looking, Rob
  2. I went last year, its a good half a day out. Rob
  3. hmmm...Makes my £15 an hour look a bit sad... Anyway, to update the thread, i've put the quote in, just waiting to see what happens now. Rob
  4. Lol, dog waste smell sure does linger...& i spent 14yrs as a dog handler !. They are part of a German company & are doing well at the moment. As i've said i'm only starting up, so not exactly snowed under with work, but it is picking up, most seems to be domestic garden maintainence "contracts", ie can you come once a fortnight, can you weed the garden etc... so a bit of juggling & i could do a week there. I'm writing out now what i'm prepared to do & putting in the price for the job, & what the hourly rate will be to maintain it, we'll see what happens, Thanks for the advice folks. Rob
  5. Thanks for the information. I would like to expand, but it is early days, as i'm only just starting out after taking early retirement, but i do have a "buffer zone". Birds & booze ? , i wish ! Rob
  6. Is this time span normal with commercial customers ?. I ask, as i've been approached to put a bid in to maintain the grounds around a factory unit. The last guy only turned up once & never came back. Its a big job for one man, & is probably a weeks work to bring it back neat & tidy. The last guy, bid to low, & i think the time it takes them to pay finished him. I intend to put a quote in for an amount to bring it all back, & then an hourly rate to maintain it. I'd appreciate your thoughts, Regards, Rob
  7. A real man & unsung hereo, without men of that calibre we'd all be talking German now. Rob
  8. A sad day indeed. Plus its my/our wedding anniversary.... Rob
  9. Thanks Andrew, they do seem a bit pricey new. Rob
  10. Hi TB, i've just dropped it off with a local mechanic, who is going to go through the "process" as to why, before looking at the head, he certainly just by looking that the fuel filter was dirty, so we'll see. Only had it for a short while, & used it properly once, for 2 hours & it worked fine. Its a bit batterd, but suits me being able to get it in the back of my van, & its a (hopefully)good starter for me..... Rob
  11. I purchased mine in 1987, & i'm still using it, but its getting a bit tired now. I was looking on line, & found the similar model to what i have, with the ally deck is now over £500, but can be had discounted at £430. So anyone got a newer one, or got any experience of them ?. Rob
  12. Thanks again Dean, for your advice. Woody, no its the kohler engine. Thanks for taking the time to look, for your interest & your advice, Regards, Rob
  13. Thank you gents, i was suspecting that. Dean thats very kind of you, but i'm in Grantham. Are these the sort of thing i can get from Halfords ? Rob
  14. its throwing a spark, has enough fuel, & turns over, anything else i should check ?. The spark plug was loose, not sure if its vibrated loose or not, but can't get in to tighten it up again. It started & ran fine last week, i've now got a load of laurel lying in a customers garden.... Rob

    Starting up

t sounds like a plan. I took the plunge, but i'm taking early retirement, so have the buffer of a pension. Rob
  16. Thank you. Rob
  17. sort of price are they overhere then ?, & which one to get, i've got a gardening buisness, & use the stihl combi system, doing both trees & hedges with it. Regards, Rob
  18. Did a laurel hedge the other day that was full of wasps, that also seemed a bit dopey. Rob
  19. I've been using(had both straight & curved) gardena saws, which i got a few years ago with a pole. The straight one i've worn out, the curved one does work well, but i seem to be struggling to find another localy. The cheap aldi ones i have found fall to pieces under hard use, so be careful, but for cutting through roots they work well. Rob
  20. I orderd the saw from chainsdirect(no connection by the way)yesterday morning & it arrived this morning, good fast service with free postage. Rob
  21. Settled on a zubat 330, cost me £55 all in from chainsdirect. Rob
  22. Thanks folks, so the next question, who's the cheapest stockist ? Rob
  23. Is a silky the saw to get, if so which model ?. Are there any good alternatives ?. Thanks for looking, Rob
  24. I have a great uncle on there, who was only 19. Also have a son off to Afghan in october. Rob
