  1. Could be, but the original 3120xp did have a higher power output (9.2 hp).
  2. Severely restricted vs. the 7900, so hardly!
  3. The King is the early 3120xp, before they started restricting them!
  4. Large Husky/D009 is correct - and a very common bar mount!
  5. That is often true, but still far from always - the same is the case with the so called "handle color "rule". Bottom line is that none of the "rules" are even close to reliable - so you really have to know!
  6. I forgot to say; by all means avoid the e and specially the cbe versions of those saws, as they add weight and complexity (specially the cbe saws), for no good reason. It is basically cheap tricks, to attract unknowing consumers!
  7. A 16" .325 .058 (1.5mm) original Husky bar (not rebranded ProLite) and Oregon 21LPX/H21 chain is perfect on the 346xp and 2153, so it likely will be on the 550xp/2253 as well. 21LP is a little faster and smoother than 25RS/RSC. If the wood is "dirty", I would consider 25RM/RMC chain.
  8. The 231 is basically a 251 with a smaller engine, and will suffer from that regarding weight. Apart from that I don't know much about it, as I don't really care, The 435 has a very good reputation for what it is (a relatively cheap consumer saw), but I wouldn't want that one either. If you just occationally cut small wood, both will of course do the job - that is what they are designed for!
  9. The 254 (and the original 154) have a crank with a shorter rod than the larger saws in that "family", and the cylinder base is lower in the case (the stoke is the same 34mm though). The clutch covers were plastic up to a point aropund the mid 1990s, and then became magnesium, regardless of exact model. On a used saw, it could of course have been changed at some point.
  10. Sort of. The non-xp status can be illutrated by the fact that the max power rating is lower than for the smaller 254xp, as is the rpm. It is still a good saw of high quality - just not an xp.
  11. Stihl 3002 mount bars likely is your best option.
  12. The 362 in question is the MS362, not the 362xp. The MS261 and the MS 362 both are "strato" saws, but heavy and clumsy first generation ones.
  13. There never was a 257xp, just a 257 (that basically is a 262xp with a smaller open port engine).
  14. It is very far from BS, it is reality - remember the effect of the bar sitting further away from the centre of gravity of the powerhead.

    husq 372?

20" is perfect as the main bar on a 372xp, and most 20" bars will balanse the saw nicely. I have mostly used a 20" ProLite in Husky color on mine. The saw has no problem with longer bars, but the balance will suffer (haven't tried a 28" Techlite, as I have no use for a 28" bar). A 24" Power Match is OK, but quite front heavy.
  16. Yes, they are rather heavy and bulky 1. generation "strato" saws, and on top of that the handling is adversely affected by the inboard clutch design! Slow trigger response as well. Those saws simply are a total turn off - and I actually like the 361....
  17. No, I referred to UK specs, and wanted clearity regarding apparently different Echo 500 models. The conclusion seem the be that there are - and the better one isn't listed on the UK website. That hacking didn't last long btw.
  18. So the UK website is stating the saws are heavier and weaker than they actually are - that would be really odd? ... or are there substantially different Echo 500 models out there?
  19. It is quite common in the US, and I have seen no complaints on saw performanse with it over there. People and wood are different though, and long bars are part of the culture there it seems. I wouldn't do it except in a "pinch" - the balance of the saw would be very front Heavy, and the Nice handling of the saw will be affected adversely.
  20. Sorry my friend, but that simply isn't the case - it weights at least the same. The specs state 4.9 kg for the 550xp, and 5.0 for the Echo. Also the Echo 500 put out almost a full hp less power, and that isn't within what a muffler mod can "fix".
  21. .2 kW and .2 kg up from the original 420s. I don't see the point with that model, as it basically weights the same as a 550xp, and the power isn't even remotely close. The handling quality is of course adverely affected by the inboard clutch design.
  22. Sounds better!
  23. I understand (from other saw forums) that removing the innards mainly increase the noise level, and doesn't really do much for the power utput. I am not an expert though, and opinions will no doubt vary!
  24. There is no cat in those mufflers, but there surely are other stuff in there.
  25. Anther option is making metal rings that fill out the gap between the bar bolts and the inside of the Stihl mount slot. Often it isn't quite as simple as using the adaptors though. You also have to either lengthen the slot in the Stihl mount bar a bit forward, or use a slightly longer chain (1 or 2 dl). Lengthening the slot is the better way to do it.
