What's it like to move about? What's the cycle time? Sorry for the questions but thinking of getting one

The stihl fuel cap will fit the motomix can, I've seen a pic in the latest stihl can with one attatched. Also it has a 2 year shelf life.

Mine arrived today as well rob, thanks. Had a little play in my yard and it's one of them tools I wish I'd had years ago. Recon it's going to be a godsend when my splitter arrives. I will give full feedback once I've used it properly but first impressions are great. -
Thanks for all the usefull tips, there all appreciated. Ordered my 880 today and Rob I will be in touch end of next week to order my mill and bars. Dismantled this cedar today, taking It home Tom ready to mill I have a 9ft length and a 5 ft length. Diameter isn't massive prob about 2ft but something to practice on.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to the APF this year which will be a good place to get some bars. Will I get good results with the stihl 47" bar it comes with.

Thanks, I have a ladder & impact driver. The 13mm ratchet spanner sounds a great idea. Is the brush to help remove dirt before milling?

Well I'm ready to buy my first alaskan mill. I'm ordering an 880 next week with a 48" bar so was thinking of getting a 48" mill. I will also get myself a 36" bar along with ripping chains. I would like to order from rob d off the forum but my question is what else would you advise. I'm going to order a few ripping chains, a precision grinder and the winch. I all ready have some wedges on the way. Is the extra oiler advised? Should prob add that I've never milled before but I'm sick of all the timber we log and have been inspired from threads I've seen on arb talk. Any advice will be gratefully received. I have access to 3 lovely pieces of oak, approx 7ft in length and 2ft in diameter the heart wood is great. If some one would like to volunteer to show me how it's done I will happily split the milled timber 50/50. I'm in north wales. Thanks in advance.

I feel sick for you rob. I was under the impression that I would get the wedges thrown in which was the deal maker for me. But if your making a loss please say as I don't want to screw you over

Shame. Can some one point me in the right direction of a decent alternative towable splitter. I've been looking for weeks and thought I'd found the perfect one. ( apparently not )

Thanks diff I've listened to your advice and it makes sense. I only want to buy once so it's got to last. I will ring the sellers Tuesday and see if I can get a demo. Also been looking at some old threads and the riko range are looking favourites so I will give them a call also.

Not what I wanted to hear diff, but that's why I put the post up as I don't want to waste my money. I need a splitter, pref a towable one ( doesn't have to be road legal ) but no more than 2 grand. I like the look of this one and the 3 second cycle time is very appealing.

Yeah there fly wheel driven and I was wondering what they would be like on knotty stuff. I know with the hydronic splitters if they can't split the log they just stop but what would happen to this as once you've pulled the leaver it's all or nothing. I'm very tempted but it's a lot of money to spend if it's not up for the job. 34t should do most logs I would think!

Was thinking of getting one and was wondering if any one on here has used one and how they found it. I like the idea of the quick cycle time but open to advise if anyone knows of a different model out there for around 2k. Thanks in advance

Mate I had a chimney sweep in a few years back, 40 quid for 10 mins work. He said he does around 15 - 20 houses a day.
