  1. Good luck with your birds, shame about the peregrines near me, is there any way around this or would they hammer my birds. Find it so fascinating.
  2. Can this be achieved easy enough with an alaskan and mini mill
  3. Thanks I understand, looks like it will take longer but you'd make the most out of the timber
  4. I'm fairly new to milling. Been reading a lot, and watching a lot of you tube vids and keep coming across quarter sawing. Could someone please explain this to me and why it's done.
  5. Is that a home made set up or bought, looks good
  6. I'd absolutely love to but my garden backs onto a quarry and there is at least 3 pairs of falcons on it and when they breed you regularly see them catching pigeons. Don't think if I I had pigeons they'd last five mins. It's a fascinating hobby, I've spoken to people who keep birds about it before and am always surprised how much there is to it. Good luck with your birds, I'd love to see more pics and hear about how you get on.
  7. Never owned any but find it fascinating. We have pereguin falcons at the back of our house so don't think they'd last long. An amazing sport, does it cost much money to get into it?
  8. Lol wow all I said was my trailer will b ready this week.
  9. I'm hoping my trailer will be finished this week, ill post some pics.
  10. My mate just emailed this pic to me
  11. There 2 inch boards really happy with the result considering. Got 7 boards in total
  12. Took all the advice and managed to get it on its side. Looks lovely
  13. Thanks for all the advice guys, think I will try & get it on its side and see if I can get some nice curved planks. I'll post some pics tom night.
  14. I've got this lump of oak to mill, it's 8ft in length and the diameter is just shy of 3ft. Not the best picture but it's shaped like a bridge with a gap underneath, it won't stay on its side due to the weight and shape. Am I best off planking it and having several different lengths or should I loose the first 6 inches. I'm new to milling and it's for myself so worst case it will be fire wood, but that would be a shame. Any advice appreciated.
  15. Today's offerings, wow this is addictive
  16. Ha yeah I do, need to turn my predictive txt off
  17. Finally got around to using my mill that I bought off rob d. I have 2 nice chunks of cedar and today I managed to find time to do the smallest piece and boy am I hooked. Each plank took around 2 mins and I can't believe how awesome they look. Started to get the hang of it towards the end. Can't believe how much sawdust there is but well worth it. Thanks to everyone who's gave me advice, I can't wait to mill my next piece. Got a few pieces of beach I'm picking up next week so hopefully I will find something special inside. Here's a few pics from my first attempt today
  18. Just got myself a swing lift crane for moving bulk bags of logs. I plan to fit it to my trailer, the trailer is an ifor Williams 8x4 and has a ladder rack one end and loading ramp on the other. I don't want to loose the ladder rack as it's handy but I'm after ideas of how and where would be best to fit. Any pics of what you have along with pros and cons would be great. Thanks
  19. Hi guys I'm going to order myself a spiderjack but wondering what rope you would advise getting. I like the 13mm rather than the smaller stuff but will the device self tender with 13mm? Also need to replace my harness and looking at the new sequoia anyone rate them as I've been told I won't want to wear it all day? Thanks in advance
