  1. Those posts look great, are they for a job or just a sale? That Mill set ups getting better and better, extension, drill powered up and down and now the chop sawπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ Oh and it's indoors on flat concreteπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
  2. Had my generator out for the first time in a year last week, still full of fuel, half a pull and it was awayπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ If a honda petrol doesn't start in a couple of pulls, somethings not right... Work wise I've got more than enough on for my 1 man band landscaping πŸ‘πŸ‘ Not quite as busy as I was in the covid boom when I was turning away as much as I was doing, but not far off. Not noticed a real change in attitude to quotes for big or small, but I have the advantage that people only come to me through recommendation or repeat business so they're normally pretty much decided before we start talking.
  3. Brilliant πŸ˜…πŸ˜… Shame it's not legal, would solve a lot of logistics issues, cut down on trips, cut down on overloaded 3.5 tippers, probably even save some polar bearsπŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
  4. Overlongded πŸ˜…πŸ˜… No, it wasn't on the road, and no, I didn't have to reverse anywhereπŸ˜…πŸ˜… Worked a treat though, better than trying to shuffle 1500kgs of chipper along a 200 yard jobπŸ‘πŸ‘
  5. Bit of Gianting this week- augered some gateposts on a horrible clay bog of a site, would have been horrible hand digging, either stuck solid to the tongs or like picking up soup, no middle ground. Giant handled it very nicely. I knew my mate was killing time in the workshop so i had him weld a back plate on a cheap set of pallet forks I bought at an auction. Saved me a job but he left me a smiley surpriseπŸ™„πŸ˜…πŸ˜… Just bolted on for the moment as I want them for this week, I'll get a set of brackets ordered and stuck on next week. The bottom bolts are at towball spacings and the top 2 were already in the headstock, just needed enlarging. Obviously they're not quite as good as the correct off the shelf pallet forks designed for the machine, but these were a fraction of the price, and can still be used on a tractor. Used them to lift the chip box onto the trailer and move the ramps from the back corner of the yard to the trailer worked a treatπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ Had to fit some floor mounted lashing eyes as there's no other way to tie the machine down with the chip box on, treated myself to some new short straps, and ratchets with swivelling hooks. Works a treatπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
  6. I knew there was a reason I left that hook thereπŸ˜…πŸ˜…
  7. Auger mount is nearly done ready to use this week. I might re do it next Christmas, learn from my mistakes on this one and hopefully have more metal working skillπŸ˜… then repurpose this oneπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Found a supplier of ready made brackets, as suggested earlier this machine takes the same attachments as avants/Multiones/casts, which is good πŸ‘
  8. Shows one of the main advantage of using one on the splitter there- a proper working height! I want a splitter to use with my loader, this was my plan but I can see advantages to a petrol one, mainly being able to use the bucket/forks at the same time as the splitter.
  9. Yes just a little 3000lb atv one. Can unbolt easily to go on other things, when I make mounts for other stuff πŸ‘
  10. Sideways rain/snow the last 2 days so I got some additions to the chipper that I've been meaning to do for a while. Brash cart mount and a vice. Along with quite a bit of paper pushing- goes nicely with letting the paint dry on the parts, coat of paint, hour on the paper work, coat of paintπŸ˜…πŸ˜…
  11. Nearly finished building this, all the framework came from my scrap bin, the cladding is dibond from site hordings, cost me 20 quid a sheet and when I peel off the plastic it'll be new, clean white underneathπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ It's interchangeable between the trailer and my defender tipper. It can be forked on and off or easy to manhandle with 2 people which is important as I don't need it 75 percent of the time. The door is to go over the van vault on the defender. The roof will get dibond on it and my 'waffle boards' on the side where the ladder doesn't go so I can stand on them, or use them on site. Total cost is 100 for the dibond, about 50 for the rivets, mastic, hinges and consumables. A decent ply 1 would cost that or more these days and not be anywhere near as long livedπŸ‘Œ Taken about 2 long days to do, mainly as and when I had time. I think I could do another 1 in 2 steady days now I've a little bit of experience.πŸ‘πŸ‘
  12. Found this on Facebook Marketplace, not saying anything against the bloke selling it, don't want to start an argument.... But that's a crap advert and ridiculous price for a saw like that??
  13. When there are too many to: 1. Know what they fit 2. Have them all ready to use. I fall foul of both of theseπŸ˜…πŸ₯ΊπŸ€¦β€β™‚️ I'd say I have 40 chains, not a huge amount over nearlt 20 years working, especially as I've bought saws used from domestic owners that came with 4 spares! I'm going to deal with it by dropping the whole lot of for sharpening (yes of course I could it myself, but I don't want to in these quantities) and tell them to bin anything that they don't think is worth it, at their discretion. Then I'm going to match them all up to a saw/bar, label them and I'll only use 2 of them (1 on, 1 spare), replacing them only when they're worn out. Well that's the theory πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
  14. My 2.0 ranger has averaged 25.6 over 25000 miles, but I don't tow with it all the time. No better or worse than all the other 4x4s I've had over the years really, they've almost all been 20-22 day to day work, 28-32 on a run, 25ish average. What a boring post. SorryπŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
  15. Got my little makita blower out earlier, I'd actually forgotten I had itπŸ˜…πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ useful bit of kit for little jobs πŸ‘πŸ‘ Bought and fitted some StealthMount Packout feet on my socket set, should help stop it flying across the back of the truck πŸ‘πŸ‘
  16. Sounds ideal, I knew you were low staffed but didn't realise you didn't have any.πŸ‘πŸ‘ Trouble is getting that hand every now and then. Although my cheif (very) casual helper is now on shift work so he's started badgering me for days again. 2 to 3 day jobs are my ideal, win or loose at least you're not tied down to it for weeks. Downside is it takes a lot of enquiries to fill a month....
  17. What sort of mpg are you getting from the ranger Mick?
  18. Few from photos I've taken the last couple of days- Milwaukee m12 riviter, I might have mentioned this before but its worth repeating. The first m12 tool I bought, ( the whole range seems brilliant) it's great value, it pulls tons on rivets on just the 2 amp battery, it's very compact and pulls nice and quickly. It's 2 and a half years old now and I still love using it, I'd buy another no questionπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ Erbaur corded 115mm grinder, picked this up at the weekend as I've got a lot of paint/rust removal to do and wanted to save wear and tear (it's a filthy job) on the makita cordless ones. Seems pretty decent for the money, about 1/2 the price of the go to makita/bosch ones at Β£34. So far so good 🀞 Milwaukee packout boxes. The obvious comment is ''how much! For an empty box??' But that's the only problem I have with them, slightly offset by buying them on offerπŸ˜… I've had a lot of tool boxes and power tool boxes over the years and they go from ok (the trend boxes these replace) to the downright crap (makita macpac 🀬) and the packout blows them all out the water πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ I'll be adding to them as an when I need, or when they're on offer... Bessy spring clamps. Bought these on a whim off the counter in a tool shop for a couple of quid each, they're really handy for all sortsπŸ‘πŸ‘ Stealth mount battery holders. Ive just fitted 6 of these under the shelf, brilliant way to store batteries in what would otherwise be dead space in the truck. Easy to fit and use, very simple.
  19. Thanks, that's saved me typing thatπŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ‘πŸ‘
  20. Spot on, if and when we're forced into electric vehicles I'd far rather convert the D2 and defender than have a 'proper' electric car with all the touch screen bilge.
  21. I have this hyundai, posted about it before, it's about 5 years old. Doesn't get used much but it works pretty well when it does. It chips very well for what it is, all the important things work you just have to watch for bolts shacking themselves out occasionally... Engine seems to be a quite close copy of a honda gx390, having looked at the pair of them side by side.
  22. Physically mounting it wasn't too difficult, I think they just had to put a little crossbar under one side. Wiring wasn't too difficult in the end apparently, although a wiring diagram would have helped as there are safety cut outs etc but I think a bit of patient tracing got it sorted πŸ‘
  23. This is a screenshot of the Facebook advert we got it from, 29.5hp according to googleπŸ‘ It was new but secondhand so I don't know the retail price of one.
  24. I've often done it the other way after doing a lot of towing- looking in the mirror, waiting for the trailer to come round into view as you reverse, oh hang on, I put the trailer away an hour agoπŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
  25. Maybe suggest that they have a footing suitable for a brick wall laid, then chemfix some studding anchors in, 3 sleepers high, drill holes through the bottom 3 sleeper courses and lower them over the studding as you go. Then bolt down tight to top of course 3, cap off with course 4. Gets the job done well, gives you a bit more work and saves them money in the long run, if they ever have the brickwork done.
