Yeah all for sale๐

what logs have you been chopping today!
william127 replied to william petts's topic in Firewood forum
More logs than I've had in for ages this week. A big Ash that I felled last week, all cut and split, about 4 ibcs full, drying in the sun. 5 or 6 ton of Sycamore collected yesterday, first ton processed yesterday. It's made lovely logs but they were literally running with water as I was splitting them. I plan to leave them out in a long low pile in the barn until I need the floor space, but I think they will need to go in ibcs outside for the summer๐ -
Firewood (and lovely logs its making too,๐๐) A mates dumping ground has expanded too far forward, the land owners wanted some of there space back. If it was milling timber I'd have found a way, probably taken the mill to their yard with the Giant on the truck...

Got loaded by a Sherpa this morning, very impressed by what it could manage on the skiniest tyres, in deep mud. Got to have a play myself, feels much smaller than the Giant, but it's on wheels 1/3 the size, and it's dangling 75kg of grab, not my superlight pallet forks๐๐ The grab really impressed, definitely want one of some kind for brash but for timber I prefer my forks๐๐ And has been said before, smaller weights, handled quicker, are definitely the way to get the most out of these machines ๐๐ cut that big log in 2, pick 2 bits quickly and easily, rather than fighting with 1 right on the limit ๐๐

I'm 'normally' pretty good with keys, but I've done 3 things recently that helped lead to this disaster- Moved the trailer that lived in front of the container, where I always used to put the keys down Took off, used and broke the snap gate krab that used to be attached to the bunch, that I'd sometimes clip them to my pocket with if I was just nipping in and out Borrowed the Tile from these keys for my car key as I'd driven to a stag do in Edinburgh and left the yard keys safe at home. Oh and my Dad, the other person with the container keys, had just gone away for 10 days, otherwise I'd have just got him to unlock!๐ ๐ ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ

Testing/playing๐ , 6 post mix, 4 wet sand, 2 cement, pallet. Wheels flat on the ground till I put the 2nd bag of cement on which was also further away from the head. Definitely enjoy having this around the yard๐๐

Locked my keys in the shipping container yesterday, 50/50 which one it would be, obviously I cut my way into the wrong one first๐๐๐๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐ ๐

Making itself handy about the yard, makes jobs like this so much easier! Even just being able to move trailers about without unlocking and hitching them up is a massive time saver!

Fair enough ๐

For what they are, yeah they're a bit silly money. Mine were ยฃ100 from a farm sale, adapted with scrap, currently bolted on but will be getting a set of brackets next week, bringing the total cost to ยฃ150 and a couple of hours work๐๐ They're a very versatile attachment.

Anyone made/use something like this for their skidsteer auger set up? I've got a couple of ideas, always good to see more๐

If we're trying to avoid using the right thing at all costs and want to get maximum lift height, put the bag of rakings on a pallet and use pallet forks?๐ ๐ Or cut down a nearby bt pole, seems to work ๐

Looks useful ๐๐

Trailer load of timber out on the forks, then pulling the brash out on a rope. Nice to have some room to work for a change!

But then the payload goes down because of the extra weight of the 4wd system ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ But if you could have that as a 5 ish ton, with no licence restrictions (how it should be!), then yes, as described with the highest power option and 3.5 ton towing๐๐

@Andrew McEwan for your windblow and nostalgic reasons ๐ ๐ ๐๐

Those posts look great, are they for a job or just a sale? That Mill set ups getting better and better, extension, drill powered up and down and now the chop saw๐๐๐๐ Oh and it's indoors on flat concrete๐๐๐

Had my generator out for the first time in a year last week, still full of fuel, half a pull and it was away๐๐ If a honda petrol doesn't start in a couple of pulls, somethings not right... Work wise I've got more than enough on for my 1 man band landscaping ๐๐ Not quite as busy as I was in the covid boom when I was turning away as much as I was doing, but not far off. Not noticed a real change in attitude to quotes for big or small, but I have the advantage that people only come to me through recommendation or repeat business so they're normally pretty much decided before we start talking.

Brilliant ๐ ๐ Shame it's not legal, would solve a lot of logistics issues, cut down on trips, cut down on overloaded 3.5 tippers, probably even save some polar bears๐ ๐ ๐

Overlongded ๐ ๐ No, it wasn't on the road, and no, I didn't have to reverse anywhere๐ ๐ Worked a treat though, better than trying to shuffle 1500kgs of chipper along a 200 yard job๐๐

Bit of Gianting this week- augered some gateposts on a horrible clay bog of a site, would have been horrible hand digging, either stuck solid to the tongs or like picking up soup, no middle ground. Giant handled it very nicely. I knew my mate was killing time in the workshop so i had him weld a back plate on a cheap set of pallet forks I bought at an auction. Saved me a job but he left me a smiley surprise๐๐ ๐ Just bolted on for the moment as I want them for this week, I'll get a set of brackets ordered and stuck on next week. The bottom bolts are at towball spacings and the top 2 were already in the headstock, just needed enlarging. Obviously they're not quite as good as the correct off the shelf pallet forks designed for the machine, but these were a fraction of the price, and can still be used on a tractor. Used them to lift the chip box onto the trailer and move the ramps from the back corner of the yard to the trailer worked a treat๐๐๐ Had to fit some floor mounted lashing eyes as there's no other way to tie the machine down with the chip box on, treated myself to some new short straps, and ratchets with swivelling hooks. Works a treat๐๐

Auger mount is nearly done ready to use this week. I might re do it next Christmas, learn from my mistakes on this one and hopefully have more metal working skill๐ then repurpose this one๐คทโโ๏ธ Found a supplier of ready made brackets, as suggested earlier this machine takes the same attachments as avants/Multiones/casts, which is good ๐

Shows one of the main advantage of using one on the splitter there- a proper working height! I want a splitter to use with my loader, this was my plan but I can see advantages to a petrol one, mainly being able to use the bucket/forks at the same time as the splitter.
