  1. I was supposed to be buying a cheap transit for a day or 2 with the chipper every couple of weeks??? oh well, I managed nearly 8 months without a defender (after 18 years of continuously owning one)?
  2. Handy things but not worth much. Where abouts are you?
  3. I like the look of that, exactly the same design as my Hyundai but with Honda Gx reliability??
  4. Thats what I thought! I saw the money in my Lloyd’s account 36 hours after applying, could have been in within 12 hours as I didn’t look sooner. Ive spent it on a tractor, which I think is is pretty much the point of it- I’ve borrowed some money that i can afford to pay back but probably wouldn’t have been able to borrow otherwise, and passed that money on , keeping the wheels turning ??
  5. 6t is pretty good going for 60hp?
  6. I didn't need it, but I'm going to buy myself a nice(to me) tractor without having to work like a madman/empty all my pots to pay for it?
  7. Looking at this again, my Farming Friend says that 100hp is too much for topping and harrowing. I can see his point of view, as I will quite happily do paying jobs like that with an MF35. But to tow a trailer worth having for tree work, about 6 -8 ton ish I think I need 100hp? Which would then be under stressed/overkill for grass work? My opinion is the big one can do what the small one can, but the small one cant do what the big one can? Especially as I could pick up a rough but sound little classic for not a lot of I needed to, but if I bought a 75 hp middle ground, then needed to tow/power more, I couldn't? What do people think???
  8. Well that was almost too easy ? 1 form on Tuesday and it's in my account!
  9. Ive just done some looking into this. I'm 100 percent self employed, always have been, but according to the Lloyd's website I need a company registration number. I dont have a company, so I assume its yet another thing I wont be eligible for? ? or am I missing something ?
  10. To be fair, my current netbook did come back to life for 6 months or so after I turned it on, with a Wifi connection, and left it to it's own devices for a couple of hours ??
  11. Cheers mate, I appreciate you taking the time to do the link. Does look like a good suggestion, just a good old plodding document producer like I asked for ??
  12. Im certainly not a gamer? Mate of mine has a Lenovo SSD for programming generators, tiny little notebook not a laptop, but hes got a dual screen PC setup for office work, which is what I really want, but nowhere to use it? I'll ask home what model hes got, see if it 'translates' into a proper laptop model
  13. You're right, it is a bit outside the spec in my original post, but if someone is keen to make a case for a more expensive Apple, I'm happy to listen?if it doesn't help me, it may help someone else ?
  14. Moneys not a deal breaker, its spending it right that's important, so suggestions are all appreciated! If spending say 800 quid gets me something that will just work for 5 years, like a makita drill or a stihl blower ?, I could be persuaded ??
  15. I need a new laptop (unfortunately not a desktop as my 'office' is a lean to and I dont trust it not to be damp?) and I'm looking for recommendations. This is definitely not my area, so ideally I'm after exact model recommendations? I need: Something simple, I mainly do very simple word documents, emails, online forms, transferring photos to memory sticks. The most important things are that it will 'fire up' quickly, without wanting to upgrade every blooming time, and be able to cope with being used without being connected to Wifi all the time! Oh and last more than 9 months?? I appreciate this is the opposite of what I said about simplicity, but is anyone successfully using a tablet/keyboard combination for doing their documents? As I do find tablets a lot more user friendly, but would need it to be able to do the job, not be a toy! Or a combination of the 2?? Budget 4- 500 for a laptop, bit more for a nice tablet or a combination...
  16. That erbaur looks good. I have the titan one now, ridiculously cheap, works absolutely fine and given that it spends most of it's time stuffed down post holes, cheaper is better. But I have thought about replacing it with a lower vibe, probably makita, but that erbaur looks like a good choice???
  17. Changed the whole engine and gearbox. When I got it, part of the reason I bought it in fact, it had a 200 tdi fitted! Dont laugh, it was a great idea, easy to find, solid old more powerful engine, but something wasnt right between the engine and gearbox, so it was killing gearboxes. I bought a whole cheap mk4 as a donor. I'll try and get some pictures up, but I've not been successful the last few times....
  18. Sounds like how I'd expect then really! But like you say, itll get you there! Mines a single cab tipper, big lift, front and rear winches(well rear is half done), 2.4 turbo from a mk3, custom shaped tipper to clear the big wheels. I've had it 3 years and its barely been on the road? But as I still miss my completely standard mk3 that went 12 years ago, this one is going nowhere! I'll get it done, then I cant wait to get it on and offroad?? I would love a double cab as well, but the one I've got will be my 3rd vehicle so I really cant justify another ??? If you're on Facebook theres a great group called the Mk1 -4 hilux owners, something like that, very good group.?
  19. Thank you for one of the most helpful posts I've ever seen ??? It's a red one, controls are all levers on the right, so certainly seems basic compared to my old Massey 3060 with everything on toggle and rotary switches! But for a bit of logging, harrowing and topping, levers should be more reliable! I have the engine oil and filters in stock, so I'll do that at the weekend. I have an operator's manual coming in the post, so with that and your post I should be able to get something done with it! Thanks again ?
  20. Nice old hilux,?? how well does it tow that sort of weight? I cant remember having much trouble towing a 1.5 ton digger with my old mk3, but I've been a bit spoilt since then- td5s, 3.2 ranger, puma 110 and a discovery 3????. Oh and a D max??. So as much as I cant wait to get my mk3 tipper back on the road I'm a bit worried what it will tow the chipper and a load of chip like??
  21. I have one, its great. Works just as advertised, nice and strong, lasting well. I wouldn't want to be without it.
  22. Hase anyone got or know much about a Case1394? We have one that's been sat in our shed for a couple of years since we got it at an auction. Fired up first turn of the key after probably a year today, engine looks and sounds surprisingly clean but I'm having a few problems, which is why it's been sat in the shed! They are- 1. Arms go up nicely, but down. 2. I cant get it to rev right up, I think it's just the linkages as I've already adjusted a bit more rev into it. 3. The bonnet, how are supposed to open it, I have managed to fight it open, but now I can't get it to close, part of the tilting frame catches on the air intake. I'm sure this is me not doing it right, but it's a bit annoying! 4. What engine oil should I use, every opinion on google seems different! Any suggestions for any of my questions would be great, thanks.
  23. Do you have a picture of your generator? I do a reasonable amount of work for a very good mate of mine whose a generator engineer, including alternator changes, but being the uneducated muscle on the job?, I always have trouble translating kva into kgs/£££s! But I'd like to help an arbtalk stalwart such as yourself if I can! ??
