  1. I'd like to steam bend some bone oak branches.... is that even possible, would I be wasting my time trying to do that? Whatever, I'd like to build something for steam bending ash poles, Hazel poles, etc.... so any advice would be great, and pictures. Cheers, steve
  2. THAT is INSANE!! *shivers* cheers, steve
  3. Fair point. cheers, steve
  4. The trouble with killing them means that they can't speak. Wouldn't it be better to keep them for a while longer, make them speak..... and then.... cheers, steve
  5. The chat room is not presently available....
  6. Birthdays on the calendar.... can we, as individuals opt out of having our birthday on the calendar? Also, even though I'm not logged in I can still see everyone's birthday listed on the calendar.... shouldn't that info be kept private for registered users? cheers. Steve
  7. Ah, yes I changed my password about 6 months ago and also 30 minutes ago. Passwords don't fit in my memory cheers, Steve
  8. Are we supposed to be able to log in to post messages? I did try to lo in but it came up with a 'locked out' message. "Your account has been locked. Try again in 1 minute." Site looks nice though. cheers, steve
  9. I'm on an ipad2 if that helps? cheers, Steve
  10. Looks great. Any problems with warping or signs of any metal overheating?... the barrels still look in good shape. What burn ratio did you get with those 3x burns? cheers, Steve
  11. I got mine from The Scythe Shop http://www.thescytheshop.co.uk Austrian Scythes for sale. and Mr Simon Fairlie gave me a free lesson, ...setting it up, sharpening & basic demonstration. Top bloke Somebody was on a course 'peening' whilst I was there too so picked up a few tips with that as well. They are amazing tools. Was using mine this morning with a ditch blade to cut soft rush in around our recently planted sweet chestnut coppice. I tend to use the ditch blade 90% of the time as its a bit shorter & stronger than the grass blades.... happily chops through gnarly bramble & saplings. Peening is an art to master and does make quite a difference.... after a fresh peen it feels like the blade is refreshed to an 'as new' level of sharpness. Although some people don't bother and just use a file followed by stones. cheers, steve
  12. Not agreed.
  13. The £10 minimum wage won't apply to apprentices.... partly for the reason you've suggested. cheers, Steve
  14. Our business won't be putting prices up.... so it's not 'everything'. Cheers, Steve
  15. I think £10 per hour is sustainable & it encourages workers to feel valued. We would rather pay somebody £10 per hour and get good productivity & smiles than pay less to somebody who does far less work with a de-moralised attitude. cheers, Steve
  16. A lot of people watching it would certainly be retarded financially.... and isn't that a healthy thing for democracy? cheers, steve
  17. I think there is more damage caused by NOT turning up than if she'd attended and totally hashed it up. Not that I'm voting Conselfservative ....but all credit to Amber Rudd for turning up in place of May, as apparently her father passed away just a couple days ago. Cheers, steve
  18. The leader of the Labour Party who was predicted to only last 6 months (alongside the onslaught of relentless bashing from the media) is appearing on TV in the leaders debate tonight - whilst our strong & stable Prime Minister, isn't. Cheers, Steve
  19. I usually work on my own and only have one chainsaw so don't tend to get it stuck very often.... otherwise it's a silky saw to the rescue job, and that's not nice! If you think there's a chance it might get stuck, then before ploughing in, take plenty of time to consider tension & compression. Not sure the above really helps? cheers, Steve
  20. 'Land with a whole bunch of trees growing out of it' How's that? cheers, steve
  21. Has to be slack ma girdles nuffield. cheers. steve

    What mowers.

I bought a used Etesia Pro 46 for £350 (in very good condition) they are about £1k new. We use it to mow around our 2 acres of flower beds.... it works a treat and I've been very impressed with how it copes with cutting/ picking up damp grass (although obviously best to mow when dry). I wouldn't hesitate to buy another etesia. cheers, steve
  23. Pretend to ignore the attention grabbing headline, if you can This guy (Paul Stamets) has done a whole bunch of amazing research on fungi. Well worth reading this article: He Holds The Patent That Could DESTROY Monsanto And Change The World! – REALfarmacy.com cheers, steve
  24. I bought a pair of these last week for mowing, digger driving, chainsaw milling, etc.... Peltor X4A.... they are comfy & quite slim fitting. A huge difference to my old pair. Cost about £20 peltor x4a | eBay On my Husky chainsaw helmet I fitted the chipper rated Sordin ones, as mentioned above.... they made a huge difference compared to the standard ones, no ringing ears at the end of the day https://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products-page/sordin/protective-helmets-spares1/sordin-chipper-ear-defenders-for-helmet-31snr/?gclid=CN-TkPSh3dMCFRAz0wodbbIHRw cheers, steve
