  4. It warms the cockles to see an advert like that... I particularly like how you offered free chocolate croissants on the Friday afternoons and a 6 pack of Butty Bach each lunch time. cheers, steve
  5. Good idea... but I don't know of such a shop here in far West Wales! I do know of a good hydraulic repair shop though, maybe they can help? That sounds a bit steep mate!... it's only two o-rings and a dust seal each side. I'll find out the price on Monday but hopefully it ain't gonna be anywhere near that price. cheers, Steve

  8. Thanks Graham. I've phoned https://www.diggerpartsdirect.co.uk/ ....hopefully they can sort me out but if not then I'll try DigBits. Cheers, steve
  9. After much delving and pondering on a sit on lawn mower I think we might be better off getting a compact tractor Question is; which one??? it needs to be able to: Mow in tight spaces with a belly mower (to mulch) Run a flail (could be a fairly narrow one/ about 1m width).... or maybe we dont need a belly mower if we use this instead?? Tow a narrow tipping trailer/ hydraulic tip (about 1t to 1.5t) Rotovate Rotary tiller Winch sections of trees (nothing too big) Run a log splitter I've mostly been looking at a used John Deere or Kubota.... and its all very confusing, especially the Kubota model numbers. I think I'd need about 26hp at the PTO to run some of those implements above. Not set on a budget but probably looking around the £6k ish mark (that's including a flail or belly mower). Any suggestions on which models I should or shouldn't be looking at? I want something reliable that I can get spare parts for easily. cheers, steve

  19. Why am i not surprised!
  20. That is very sound advice from Daniel. I found myself in a similar situation, trying to scrape enough pennies together to get all the PPE gear + training.... it really adds up to alot of dosh. The way I got over this was by doing the first 12 months on the farm just using a Silky Natanoko 330 (hand saw), which bought me enough time to save extra money and get a chainsaw I needed to cover all eventualities (instead of what I could just afford). I'm not saying you should be felling big trees with a Silky.... but it can help you get by for a while - I did a huge amount of work with mine and without regrets. cheers, steve

For a flower meadow I believe it's generally best to remove the arisings to reduce the soil fertility.... flails turn the grass into mulch. Our 16 acres of meadow have been mowed & baled for 4 years now and we now have loads of yellow rattle (which parasitises the grass) giving wild flowers a better chance to flourish. cheers, steve
