  1. Was about to mention the same. cheers, steve
  2. Hi Jon, yeah, I'm not saying other vehicles are better/worse.... but moving out the way of the exhaust is a good idea! Your experience is actually a good example of what is happening in our cities.... some days there is nowhere to escape the fumes (unless you get out of the city). Cheers, steve
  3. But how many would actually pay £100?.... it would stop the majority of people driving in.... so their plan could be working. cheers, steve
  4. That's why I mentioned retro-fitting. cheers, steve
  5. Hey Jon, this isn't about dismissing old landrovers.... modern diesels also contribute to these harmful emissions. The trouble we have is that there are so many diesel cars on the road nowadays and all that pollution put together is affecting people's health, especially childrens (asthma, etc). Something needs to be done. Cheers, steve
  6. They don't test for all the emissions.... Just because your engine is running what is deemed to be 'clean' doesn't mean that it's not churning out harmful emissions; read here for more info: MOT test of the future to focus on tackling harmful Nitrous dioxide and Diesel Particulate Matter emissions cheers, steve
  7. "Keeping the dirtiest vehicles off our streets.... The UK Government needs to keep the dirtiest vehicles out of towns and cities. As you would expect, industry has recently launched a fight-back against the evidence that diesel is bad for people's health. Diesel car makers cite the latest European emissions standards which they claim will limit dangers to human health. Sadly, engines which meet these standards under test conditions fall far short in real life. Until these laboratory successes are seen on the road, it will be very difficult for the public to have the same level of confidence as the industry seems to have in its vehicles. ClientEarth's issue is not with the diesel car industry, just as it isn't with the millions of drivers who were incentivised to buy diesel vehicles under the discredited idea that it was better for the environment. Clearly, people were misled, and this will be expensive and difficult to undo. To keep the dirtiest vehicles out of town centres we need a national network of low emission zones. This requires action from central Government. To ask councils or local authorities to fix the problem is putting a plaster on a large wound." To save 30,000 British lives a year, the Government must act now on air pollution - The Ecologist Can catalytic converters be fitted to diesel cars?.... or is there other technology that could be retro-fitted? cheers, steve
  8. I think that is what they have been seeking to address, and fair enough. But there are also others that have very serious health issues being practically harassed into job interviews/ work, and that really isn't fair. There was a case a while ago where somebody with terminal cancer was being pushed into employment.... and that's just sickening. Cheers, Steve
  9. Yes - and they offset that by insisting disabled and seriously ill people get a job! All in the name of improving statistics ready for general election vote chasing....

  11. I believe the UKGov controls a lot more than I've listed here.
  12. How would you categorise/ prioritise 'reward'? Financial? Health? Well being? Time with friends & family?
  13. Nice to have enough spare cash to go to the pub
  14. Yep, it was abolished - I distinctively remember advising my parents to buy their council house (the one I grew up in) before they missed the deadline. The main reason was because the monthly rent had been increasing (following a load of improvements/upgrades made by the housing association).... So they took the plunge and dived into a mortgage. The following year their rent would have been way more than their mortgage payments. My family has never had money and still doesn't..... but the problem here isn't about buying a house at discount.... The real problem here is that there are alot of families (including working families) that simply cannot afford high rent OR high mortgage. Cheers, steve
  15. Yeah, I've been getting it from Riverlea but it's a bit of a trek from Haverfordwest. I tried encouraging MPH Hire - I think they may have stocked Aspen in the past/ many years ago, but had trouble shifting it. Maybe the new Massey Ferguson dealers at Withybush (Haverfordwest) would consider stocking it?.... they have a small shop front. See at bottom of page here: http://brodyrevansbros.co.uk/locations.html cheers, steve
  16. Very true, and I agree.... but it would be good to see at least a little bit of a step in a sensible direction with regulation. Cheers, Steve
  17. Where people are choosing to leave homes empty for long periods of time I think they should be forced to sell, get it occupied or have it taken away. Cheers, Steve
  18. This makes complete sense to me.... Thank you Greens! Now other parties too must keep us safe from pesticides - The Ecologist "Secure protection of rural residents and communities from exposure to pesticides sprayed on nearby crop fields and prohibit the use of pesticides in the locality of homes, schools and children's playgrounds."
  19. I guess it'd support those poor, struggling bankers..... more people in mortgage debt equals more money at the top. It's fine if you are at the top, I guess?! cheers, steve
  20. Wish someone would stock it in Haverfordwest. Have tried encouraging our local hire company but no luck. cheers, steve
  21. Are you sure it's Turkey Oak? If it's a cross pollinated Turkey Oak with eg, Sessile Oak it may be fine.... assuming it has plenty of heartwood. I found the most accurate way to tell if it is Turkey Oak is by the buds. In our woods I found other oaks that have red/orange streaks in the bark (like Turkey Oak) but normal oak buds, ie not wispy. They are probably hybrids & are usable. Here's the genuine Turkey Oak with hairy/wispy buds I found in our woods. The tree also had a long straight stem and a small percentage of heartwood. I chopped it up and use it to level out a ditch, now buried under soil for bugs to munch. cheers, steve
  22. Probably should be a legal requirement....
  23. With the modern engine repair additive stuff nowt can be guaranteed..... a mate gave me a lift in his smoking Clio a few weeks ago, was running on 3 cylinders, mis-firing and you could barely see out the back window for blue smoke. He drove straight to the motor factors to pop in some engine repair additive and I said "it'll go bang within two days, you haven't a hope in hell!".... next day he turned up and it was running on all 4 cylinders, no misfire and clean as a whistle out the exhaust. Maybe it's just a rad? Maybe much more? Saying that- If it's a small, cabbed Kubota with expanding tracks I'd probably go for it, at the right price.
  24. Cheers - glad it helped.... info above in case anybody missed it.
